As my friend Jim Treacher notes on Twitter, Sonny Bono’s second wife gave us “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves.” Now his fifth wife is the one woman of the 8 DOP (Dead Old Party) who decided voting for an energy tax, the biggest tax increase on Americans in history, would be a good idea. Some Repubs (the editorial director at the Washington Examiner specifically) are whining that calling these traitors to party, principles and their constituencies, is too harsh, mean, and well, mean. Because, after all, being really, really nice and not saying anything when you’re getting shafted is so much better. Obviously.

    Tammy:

I would like to add…Mr. Bono-Mack…Connie Mack my representative….whom I called and emailed. This reminds me of those couples who always cancel out each others vote and act like that leaves them blameless no matter who is elected. I am sure he had no idea that his wife’s vote was going to cancel out his (wink)…making him blameless to the voters of Florida…and her in her bastion of liberalism California.

    Connie Mack (FL) (202) 225-2536

No wonder he didn’t want to run for the Martinez SENATE seat (Martinez -a RINO- is not running for re-election)…he would have to vote for “real”.

To Washington Examiner’s Mark Tapscott who Tammy referenced, and who wrote, “When somebody promises you they will take a certain course of action not involving national loyalty, but then does another, they are a rat, a double-crosser, or a jerk, but they are not a traitor because national security is not jeopardized by their failure to do what they promised to do. The Obama-Waxman-Markey bill will certainly burden the U.S. economy, but it won’t destroy it. Thus, referring to the eight GOP members who voted for the bill is unjustified”, I quote:

“I’d only told them the truth. Was that so selfish? Our integrity sells for so little, but it’s all that we really have. It is the very last inch of us, but within that inch, we are free. …What I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that though I do not know you and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you, I love you. With all my heart, I love you. …I shall die here. Every last inch of me shall perish. Except one. An inch. It’s small and it’s fragile and it’s the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it, or sell it, or give it away. We must never let them take it from us.” – Valerie, “V for Vendetta”

Clearly, journalist Tapscott either doesn’t understand the significance of “the inch”, or chooses to reject it. He fails to acknowledge the inextricable relationship between Congress’ fiduciary duties of loyalty and prudence and how the breach of those duties is a matter of “national loyalty”. And, put into context, such breaches certainly have the capacity to “destroy” the U.S. economy, as is already evident. Ergo, Tapscott should fully grasp the definition of a “traitor” before he starts criticizing those who use the term appropriately and as an act of national loyalty.

Oh, just received this, this is too much! See: http://hotair.com/archives/2009/06/30/ca-dem-leader-why-do-we-allow-free-speech-to-terrorize-politicians/

“This would be great satire, except that California’s Speaker of the Assembly, Karen Bass, was foolish enough to say it — and believe it. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Bass responded to a question about conservative talk radio by calling show hosts terrorists, and openly wondering why we allow people to call politicians and give their opinions (via The Corner):

How do you think conservative talk radio has affected the Legislature’s work?

‘The Republicans were essentially threatened and terrorized against voting for revenue. Now [some] are facing recalls. They operate under a terrorist threat: “You vote for revenue and your career is over.” I don’t know why we allow that kind of terrorism to exist. I guess it’s about free speech, but it’s extremely unfair.’

There’s a lot of stupidity and tyranny locked into those few words.”
