The Change America Needs
by Maynard on July 22, 2009Maynard makes a point of fundamental economics I can rattle on endlessly about economics (and you decide whether I know what I’m talking about). Here, at the risk of oversimplification, I’ll just hit the high point. The major economic problem America faces is we’re out of balance. The nation consumes more than it produces, resulting in an international balance of payments deficit. As we buy from abroad, dollars flow out of America into the world. Those dollars either slosh around in various world banks, or they drift back in the wrong ways…through loans or purchases of the American infrastructure. This creates unsustainable trends and periodic crises. We can’t borrow forever and we can only sell America once. We got to...

Breaking: Palin May In Fact Be Omnipotent SuperVillain
by Tammy on July 21, 2009I know, it’s hard to believe, but finally in the slew of “ethics” violations one damning conclusion has been reached: Governor Sarah Palin may actually be everything and everywhere, acting unethically on this planet and even in other parts of the galaxy! ABC was coy, and perhaps not wanting to send people into a panic edited this news headline: Deep Impact: Jupiter Hit by Comet or Meteoroid or Maybe Sarah Palin Honestly, there have been a lot of headlines today with new and explosive charges against Governor Palin. There’s the ever-reliable might-be-maybe-sorta story like, “Report: Palin legal fund may be unethical” which showed up again like that bad sushi that keeps coming back up. While I would normally not want...

Palin Tweets Against Driver Licenses for Illegal Aliens
by Tammy on July 21, 2009I have been supporting Sarah Palin but always with the reminder that we had not heard her own stance on the important issue of immigration and our nation’s sovereignty. During the campaign she indicated support for McCain’s untenable position, but we would expect her to considering she was on his ticket. Since then, however, I’ve been waiting for her to articulate some position on the issue which would alert us to her own thoughts on the issue, and we finally have it, via a Tweet. Here’s what she posted last night: This is a nice hint at her sense of sovereignty and the notion of legal versus illegal immigration. Personally, I’m thrilled with this glimpse, and look forward to hearing...

A Message from Janeane Garofalo’s Dog
by Tammy on July 21, 2009This is a little old but it’s making the rounds again and certainly a good way to start off our Tuesday. It also reconfirms the cleverness of dogs and why Garafalo so appropriately named her media company “I Hate Myself Productions.” Because, after all, when even your dog feels compelled to relieve himself on you…

Israel and Construction in East Jerusalem
by Maynard on July 20, 2009It seems that Washington, in an effort to convince the Muslim world that it’s even-handed, is getting heavy-handed. Recent reports have indicated pressure from Washington to freeze new Jewish construction on any territory controlled by Israel outside its 1967 borders. This demand has lately focused on apartments in East Jerusalem. On Sunday, responding to the reports that Washington had asked Israel not to build 20 apartments in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in east Jerusalem, near Mount Scopus and the National Police headquarters, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu declared that Israel would not bar Jews from buying apartments in east Jerusalem. A few words of history are in order. In 1947, the United Nations mapped out its Partition Plan for Palestine, which...
