FDA Alert: Premium Edge cat food recall
Today, October 20th, the FDA has put out an alert of a voluntary recall of certain Premium Edge Cat Foods by Diamond Pet Foods. The brands affected contain inadequate levels of thiamine, an essential vitamin for cats.
Affected brands are Premium Edge Finicky Adult cat food and Premium Edge Hairball cat food: RAF0501A22X 18lb., RAF0501A2X 6 lb., RAH0501A22X 18 lb., RAH0501A2X 6lb. The date of manufacture is May 28, 2009.
Thiamine deficiency affects cats neurologically. Such symptoms are wobbly walking, muscle weakness, paralysis of hindlimbs, seizures, ventroflexion (bending toward the floor) of the neck, and abnormal eye movement called nystagmus. For cats fed these date codes and displaying any of these symptoms immediately take them to a veterinarian. If your veterinarian diagnoses your cat as becoming ill from the affected cat food, please ask them to file a report with the FDA.

Thanks for the heads up, Tammy….thank God, I am out here in the West and our 2 felines don’t eat this particular brand; but I am glad you are on top of these things when and if one of these recalls ends up affecting our animal menagerie.
However, one of the cats (Baby)…walks with a wobble all the time…at least for the 2 hours she is awake….of course, at 17 years old…any kitty would be wobbling……

I had the same reaction after drinking a bottle of Tequila when I was 19.. I never thought it could have been a Thiamine deficiency!
This comment is not about the cat food recall. It’s about your new cat, Henry. You’re gonna have him neutered. You said after the “snip-snip,” he will be cute and friendly, will have no ideas, will just want to be loved, will do whatever it takes to get his baby food, and will have no balls. So you will run him for office because he will be the perrrfect politician. As always you are absolutely brilliant, Tammy.

what’s missing from that companies pseudo explanation for the recall is that that ‘ vitamix’ that they think is the source of the problem is made up in all probability from ingredients entirely sourced from china. many of the components for any vitamin or supplement even for human use are now only made in china. until this is addressed the recalls of items like this will continue- animals and humans will get sick and maybe die but thank god trans fats and twinkies have been outlawed.
