CNN: The Real Power of Talk Radio
by Pat_S on October 20, 2009A post by Pat How much power does talk radio have? No psychiatrist today to help us on that. For some inexplicable reason those insecure, bully-loving listeners don’t necessarily do what the talk show hosts tell them to do. Go figure. The imagery and subliminal messages that talk radio is populated by weird loud people with extreme views continued. Camille Paglia sees the opposition party quality of conservative radio these days as a sort of a shadow government and not a problem in a democracy. If you ask me, it’s what democracy is all about. Michael Harris of Talk Radio Magazine attributes Al Franken’s successful bid for the Senate to his stint as a talk radio host. Yeah, that and...

CNN: Who’s Listening to Talk Radio?
by Pat_S on October 19, 2009A post by Pat Who listens to talk radio? To find out, Carol Costello went to bitter-clingy central PA, hopped a ride in a local’s pickup truck and listened to cowboy hatted local WHP host Bob Durgin (He rants and raves!). Then she asked a psychiatrist. “Anger in the Air, What listeners don’t know about talk radio”. Since I’m an avid listener I wanted to find out what it is I don’t know about talk radio. I still don’t know, unless it’s that it’s all about anger and that listeners are looking to befriend a bully. Today, Tammy spoke about what’s “normal” depends on your point of view. That’s why Fox News is biased in the eyes of liberals, but...

Lying to Sell the Public on New Gov’t Programs
by Maynard on October 19, 2009A post by Maynard Flashback: Here’s how they sold Social Security. The lies are a matter of historical record. It’s right on the government site. This is what people told they would get, and how much it would cost them: After the first 3 year — that is to say, beginning in 1940 — you will pay, and your employer will pay, 1.5 cents for each dollar you earn, up to $3,000 a year. This will be the tax for 3 years, and then, beginning in 1943, you will pay 2 cents, and so will your employer, for every dollar you earn for the next 3 years. After that, you and your employer will each pay half a cent more...

Child Protection Office Eyeing Balloon Boy Family
by Tammy on October 17, 2009Finally. When you’ve got a kid vomiting during a television interview because the situation is so stressful and you don’t remove him and keep doing the interview and schedule more, that’s a sign something need to be looked at. Balloon case referred to child-protection workers Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said today that his agency has talked with the county’s child-protection agency about the Fort Collins family who lost control of an experimental balloon Thursday. The Sheriff’s Office is now planning to re-interview Richard Heene, his wife and children, after a television appearance in which 6-year-old Falcon Heene said the balloon escape and belief he was aboard was part of “a show.” [...] The Associated Press reported this afternoon that...

The Happy Act – $3,500 tax deduction for pets
by Pat_S on October 17, 2009A post by Pat This is embarrassing. The Happy Act, “Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years” H.R. 3501, proposes a $3,500 deduction for pets. I heard about this on one of the business shows this morning and thought, wow, wait until the Tammy peeps hear about this. I ran to the computer to find out what lunatic proposed this idea. To my absolute shock it is my Congressman, Thaddeus McCotter. I considered him one of the good guys. I had to cut him some slack on some things like the auto bailout because his district is in the faintly beating heart of the auto industry. I know the man has a wry sense of humor so I thought maybe...
