Balloon Kid Found Alive–Hiding in Attic
by Tammy on October 15, 2009What we said on Tammy Radio when no kid was found in balloon. No Xbox for him for at least 10,000 years. Fort Collins boy who went up in balloon craft found at his home “He’s been located! He’s alive! He’s at the house!” Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden interrupted a media update in Fort Collins to announce that the 6-year-old boy thought to be missing in a balloon craft has been found alive at his home. “Apparently, he’s been there the whole time,” Alderden said. “Hiding in a box a cardboard box, in an attic above the garage.” Checking the entire house next time might be a good idea, no?

Good and Evil: God, Guns, Tyrants, and You
by Maynard on October 15, 2009Pat Chats and Maynard Meanders A few months back, Pat sent me a note that touched a nerve. After Tammy made a passing reference to friendly dolphins, I pointed out that dolphins were in fact capable of nasty behavior (see, for example, here or here). Pat was observing the extent to which evil comes naturally to Man. We have a beast within ourselves as well. Maybe I’m a mono-maniac when it comes to politics for turning your dirty dolphin exposé into a political tract. I’m not kidding about this. We have our darker nature just below the surface. The frenzied reaction to the AIG bonuses was sobering to me. Egregious as they were (I too was—am—outraged.) we have to be...

Rush’s Rams
by Tammy on October 15, 2009Elisabeth Meinecke over at Human Events has an excellent piece on the rank hypocrisy of some in the NFL who were incensed over the idea of Rush Limbaugh bidding on the Rams. Here it is, with a HT to TAM Patricia :) Rush’s Rams For all the fuss over Rush Limbaugh’s attempt to buy the NFL’s St. Louis Rams franchise, you’d think he’d been torturing dogs or accidentally firing pistols in nightclubs. Oh, wait: those are the players. All Rush Limbaugh has done is work hard for decades to build his personality and radio empire to dominate conservative talk radio. Yet, less than three months after the NFL conditionally reinstated a convicted felon, some of its associates and fans are...

Book of the Week: Cracker!
by Tammy on October 14, 2009Yes, we have paid an homage to the felines. Now, here is a treat for the dog lovers. Our Book of the Week: Cracker! The Best Dog in Vietnam CRACKER IS ONE OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY’S MOST VALUABLE WEAPONS: a German shepherd trained to sniff out bombs, traps, and the enemy. The fate of entire platoons rests on her keen sense of smell. She’s a Big Deal, and she likes it that way. Sometimes Cracker remembers when she was younger, and her previous owner would feed her hot dogs and let her sleep in his bed. That was nice, too. Rick Hanski is headed to Vietnam. There, he’s going to whip the world and prove to his family and...

Pet of the Day!
by Tammy on October 14, 2009The lovely and popular Maine Coon. Maine Coon cats regaining popularity; catteries popping up across country KITCHENER, Ont. – It’s always surprising to sit in the elegant living room at the home of Ron and Dianne Lukas. The retired couple welcome their guest warmly and the conversation just starts to get cooking when suddenly, out of nearly every corner of the home, very large cats start to wander by. And by large … well, think of something that could easily devour a cockapoo dog with nary a slight burp. But of course, these Maine Coon kitties would never dream of doing such a thing, given that they’re among the gentlest of the cat breeds – just big fluffy piles of...

Palin Launches New Political Group
by Tammy on October 14, 2009Woo hoo! “Stand Up For Our Nation.” Sounds good to me. Palin Plans New Political Group Sarah Palin fans can expect to see a new Palin political organization surface as her memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life,” hits the shelves next month. “There will be an announcement about it coming up,” Palin associate Tim Crawford said Wednesday. The New York Post reported this week that Palin’s new group will be called “Stand Up For Our Nation.” (News Corp. owns both the Post and The Wall Street Journal as well as HarperCollins Publishers, publisher of Palin’s book.) Crawford, who is treasurer of Palin’s existing political-action committee, SarahPAC, refused to provide any details about the new organization’s purpose or structure.

Making a Health Care Sausage
by Pat_S on October 14, 2009A post by Pat Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made. — Otto von Bismarck It’s all a farce from Hell but just to give an example of what’s going on, here’s an exchange from the Senate Finance Committee yesterday. Sen. Kyl made the point that the CBO based its indexing assumptions on staff clarifications which conflict with what is actually in the bill the committee was about to vote on. The focus was whether or not indexing would be applied to the fines for not purchasing insurance. If indexed, the fines would increase proportionately over time, otherwise they could go down to zero. Sen. Baucus tried to get Dr. Elmendorf of the CBO...

It’s a Good Life
by Maynard on October 14, 2009Don’t worry, people. It’s only a fictional show about an alternate reality — and a warped and unbelievable reality at that. Nothing so stupid could ever happen here.
