Do da name Ruby Begonia, strike a familiar note? The line was a frequent sound-bite on The Lloyd Thaxton Show - an LA based syndicated teen dance show in the 1960s. My human corresponded with Lloyd Thaxton in 2004 - searching for the origins of my name. He replied: "I have no idea of the origin of the quote. The reason I used it was because a very popular LA disk jockey, The Real Don Steele, used to burst in with it between records. My audio person recorded it off his show and would interject it into my show at appropriate (sometimes inappropriate) moments in order to get my attention. It sure sounded like something I might have heard on Amos and Andy, however, who knows for sure?" Many peeps have attributed the line to "Amos & Andy" but internet research indicates that although there was a "Ruby" character in that series, there was no mention of "Ruby Begonia" in the archived scripts. Others have attributed it to Sammy Davis Junior on "Laugh-in" or "The Flip Wilson Show", but of course "The Lloyd Thaxton Show" pre-dates these. The sound-bite most likely originated from the works of vaudevillian Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham. He originated the "Here come da judge" routine. P.S. Mr. Thaxton passed away in 2008. He adored his Bedlington Terrier, named Mr. Tucker. WOOF WOOF WOOF.

Err- I know this makes me sound stupid- but WHERE did “RuBegonia” come from? I mean, what is the significance of the name? Any enlightenment would be appreciated!

FWI- I am in the process of building a ranch/farm in RuBegonia!! Yes, a square mile of undeveloped desert! It may be 14 miles off of the county road, but it is beautiful, and SAFE! Plus, the neighbors- 3+ miles south of us, are super-nice!! If you ever get into NW Nevada, come on out, for a day of fun, LEGALLY shooting machine guns! And, maybe a cannon, or two! I’ve always maintained, that liberals don’t want the average American to own a gun, because they know that THEY, THEMSELVES, cannot be trusted with one!! And, since they KNOW that they are morally superior to the rest of us, how could WE POSSIBLY control ourselves enough to own a firearm??? LOL, keep-up the good work, girl!!
