Save the Teeth and Save the World
by Pat_S on November 9, 2009A post by Pat Never think you’ve seen the limit of liberal delusion. Geraldo speculates it could have been a toothache that set off mass murderer Hasan. Maybe he had dental and mental problems. Terrorism? What does that even mean? Genius! It puts a whole new light on the Garden of Eden story. Ever since Adam took a bite out of the apple, the root of the world’s problems has been right under our noses. Peace through oral hygiene. Drill, baby, drill!

Lieberman: Congress Will Investigate Hasan’s Motives
by Pat_S on November 8, 2009A post by Pat The media slant on the Fort Hood massacre is a weepy focus on the mental health of our miltary. All of them. So much stress, so many suicides, so few mental health workers. This Fort Hood tragedy, they suggest, points out the heartbreak of what our soldiers must endure. The implications for the upcoming (but who knows when) decision on more troops for Afghanistan is not lost. Are our soldiers turning into wackos because of this hideous war? That’s where the media is taking the story about the massacre at Fort Hood by a shooter named Hasan. We know they have an uncomfortable problem with the facts and have to point away from it. Then along...

Rep. Cao Takes a Leap
by Pat_S on November 8, 2009A post by Pat And America gets soaked with the foul result. Anh “Joseph” Cao is in the House of Representatives because William Jefferson is a criminal. Yesterday Cao aided and abetted in what should be considered a crime by voting with Democrats to pass the ruinous government takeover of health care. ABC’s blog The Note ran this story the afternoon before the vote. Obama’s Favorite Republican House Republicans are united in their opposition to the health care bill, but when the vote comes this evening, there is one House Republican to watch: Rep. Joseph Cao of Louisiana. ABC News has learned that the White House is making an 11th-hour push to convince Cao to be the sole Republican to...

What Constitution?
by Maynard on November 8, 2009A post by Maynard Yes, this exchange with Nancy Pelosi actually happened. I feel like a broken record, but it’s a vital point. The Constitution is a specific enumeration of what the government is allowed to do. Our modern leadership instead proceeds on the tyrannical assumption that they can do whatever they want. The linked editorial touches on the legal argument with respect to the mandated purchase of insurance. I can’t fully comprehend the the gory details (I’m not a lawyer), but you see the unprecedented nature of the intrusion. Under what other circumstances do you become a criminal just for existing and failing to purchase a mandated item? By way of example, you’re compelled (by your state) to buy...

Swine Flu Keeps Pilgrims Away From Mecca
by Pat_S on November 7, 2009A post by Pat The cosmic sense of humor can be so delightful. Health officials want to cancel hajj for Iranians due to swine flu The Health Ministry and the Majlis Health Committee are seriously opposed to allowing Iranians to go on hajj this year due to the swine flu epidemic, MP Mohammad-Reza Rezaii-Kouchi said on Saturday. Elsewhere in his remarks, Rezaii-Kouchi criticized the Health Ministry for reporting imprecise statistics, saying the health minister had said 50 percent of the people who go on hajj would become infected with the swine flu virus while the deputy health minister said 80 percent would become infected.

Health Control Technical Note
by Maynard on November 7, 2009A meandering contemplation by Maynard The headline: House Dems struggle for final votes. Ah, the final solution to America’s health woes is at hand. Here’s the way it works, as I understand it (and this is not my area of expertise, so correct me if I’m wrong). The Speaker has a strategic advantage, in that she can bring a bill up for a vote when she’s ready…that is to say, when she’s got commitments for the necessary votes. So the vote will be delayed until/unless the outcome is known and favorable. Pressure is brought to bear upon wavering votes. As I’ve noted, the party machine has many ways to bring an erring member into line. You can lose committee status...

Ft. Hood Update
by Tammy on November 6, 2009Yesterday was awful as we all know. I was especially frustrated as I had a commitment which kept me out of the loop as reports of the massacre of our troops unfolded. My prayers, as I know yours, have been with the families of everyone affected. This post is meant as an update, but I really must mention something. I heard Obama’s response on the Fox News satellite radio while going from one meeting to another. He was, Cavuto told us, going to address the horror of so many of our soldiers being murdered on their own base. Obama comes up and proceeds to thank various people who had been at a conference. He chuckles when mentioning a person in...

Andrea Mitchell – Memories
by Pat_S on November 4, 2009A post by Pat David Axelrod appeared on a legitimate, unbiased network today. It looked more like a counseling session than a newsy Q & A. Poor Andrea Mitchell, clearly despondent over the disappointments of election night, needed some cheering up. I can just see the poor woman flipping between the HBO special reminiscing the glorious triumph last year and watching the gloomy election returns this year. Even New York 23 couldn’t cheer her up much. If Axelrod was in the studio, I’m sure he would have offered her his handkerchief, maybe a hug. He did his best consoling her on each of her worries, but Andrea wasn’t buoyed much by the pep talk. The interview ended with sad Andrea...

Two for the Gipper, and a Bunch for Next Year
by Tammy on November 4, 2009So conservatives took Virginia and New Jersey (New Jersey?!) last night, while Hoffman lost in NY’s 23rd. For an excellent assessment of why Hoffman lost, check out Michael O. Leahy’s post-mortem over at TCOT Report. The good news, of course, is the conservative turn in VA and NJ, interestingly enough the two states Obama visited and candidates he campaigned for lost. Sarah Palin chimes in with a Facebook note: A Victory for Common Sense and Fiscal Sanity Yet, according to the White House it’s much ado about nothing, and yet… Lessons For Obama, Post-Election Republicans quickly won all three statewide races in Virginia, scoring an off-year election sweep that restored GOP dominance in a state where years of Democratic advances...
