And America gets soaked with the foul result.
Anh “Joseph” Cao is in the House of Representatives because William Jefferson is a criminal. Yesterday Cao aided and abetted in what should be considered a crime by voting with Democrats to pass the ruinous government takeover of health care.
ABC’s blog The Note ran this story the afternoon before the vote.
House Republicans are united in their opposition to the health care bill, but when the vote comes this evening, there is one House Republican to watch: Rep. Joseph Cao of Louisiana.
ABC News has learned that the White House is making an 11th-hour push to convince Cao to be the sole Republican to vote “yes” on the Democratic health care bill. Cao has been promising presidential support for additional financial aid for his New Orleans district. The sources say Cao has had several conversations with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and health care advisor Nancy-Ann Deparle
Congressional sources tell ABC News that Republican Whip Eric Cantor is also making a big push, trying to convince Cao to join all other House Republicans in voting no. Cantor has met with Cao several times today.
Cao is telling his colleagues that he is still undecided.
Cao’s New Orleans district is one of the most Democratic in America. He was elected in a something of a fluke last year, defeating William “Cold Cash” Jefferson, who is about to go to jail following his conviction on multiple corruption charges.
Coa is pro-life, so the only way he could be in play is if the Stupak amendment banning abortion funding passes.
This is how Cao smugly explained himself on CNN. He says he decided what was best for the district although it was a leap of faith.
It isn’t clear to me if the people in his district favored passage of this bill. Cao admits he’s voted against the wishes of his district on other matters. I find his self-righteousness offensive. Would he have voted for “the best interest” of his district if the Stupak abortion amendment hadn’t passed? How obtuse do you have to be to think this wasn’t a fleeting insincere expedient which will be undone at the soonest moment? Did he sell out for a mere promise from Obama to help his district? Good grief, will Katrina ever stop being a political milk cow? Are the people in his district helplessly wondering what his next leap will be, taking them with him, or are they planning a special one for him to take alone?
It’s politics as usual—deals, arrogance, power drunk politicians, money thrown around here and there. We’ve put up with it long enough. Too long but not yet too late to stop it.

To Mr. Cow: Hey dumb-ass – the final bill isn’t written yet; you think your little promise you received means squat when the final bill is written? Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame because I’m already starting to lobby against you and I don’t even live in your state. Freak.
Better Cold Cash Jefferson than this spineless milksop of a man. At least with Jefferson, we know who and what we’re getting. Cao talks one way and then acts another. Pathetic.
I was watching last night when he cast his vote, which was AFTER the 218 that were needed to pass the bill…very calculating, and real showmanship….Pat is right, politics as usual. He is getting his 15 minutes, and history won’t record WHEN his vote was made in the process. Pathetic.
Regarding the Stupak Democratic abortion amendment referenced above….if it did NOT pass, would there have been more Democrats who voted with the Republicans to defeat the entire bill…?? That was very sneaky on Pelosi’s part.
What happened to the Constitutional 2/3 vote?? Oh, I guess this is non-controversial legislation….
Of course this stupid COW/Cao is Obama’s favorite slime-ball Republican. The man is obviously in awe of being singled out by The Messiah of Razzle Dazzle. And boy, does Obama know it. So Obama plays him, makes malleable so that he can get what he wants from Cao. What better way for Cao to show his reverence to The Once, than to kowtow to the anointed one’s wishes. The man behaves with Obama the way Obama does in the prescence of the world’s thugs!
All is not lost, yet. As Pat pointed out, it’s not too late to stop it. Can’t let our guard down not even for an instant! Time to call our Senators and let them know that if they shackle us and future generations, their new names will be ex-Senator whatever.
As much as I love Laura Ingraham, when Cao defeated William Jefferson in the election, she praised him because of his pro-life stance, even as people called into her show stating his pro-open borders position and other non-conservative views. I can see why Tammy’s of the opinion that abortion should not be the be-all and end-all issue.

The RINO wing of the Republican Party is still alive. I guess it’ll take a couple more election losses to drive them out.
This man is a disgrace. I know of many minorities that would love to rise in the republican party and they are…. actual conservatives.
why is the GOP so incompetent that this is the best they can find? If there’s cases of corruption like with Cold Cash, give a REAL conservative a chance because any alternative will win out. And when the conservative shows his constituents how it’s done, it positively raises the profile of conservativism. It’s the Cao’s of the GOP that destroy the conservative movement.
Tammy, if there’s one thing you’ve taught me, it’s the importance of fiscal conservativism and that men of faith/pro-life doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a conservative.
Again, Cao… a disgrace.
