To all veterans who honored their uniform we owe an enormous debt of gratitude. Their courage humbles and inspires us. We will never forget their sacrifices. It is our duty to stand by them as faithfully as they stood up for us.

A Marine who was wounded and disfigured in Iraq gives advice in the aftermath of the Fort Hood shootings:

Stay strong and take the battles on a day-to-day basis. Sometimes we find ourselves kind of caught up in the long run. Of course we have our objectives and missions, but…remember who we are as Americans and our history and our legacy. We celebrated 234 years in the Marine Corps. That’s something that we can look on and be, I think, proud about where we’ve been and where we’re going.

Yes, we can be proud about who we are and where we’ve been. As long as we have young men and women with the spirit, optimism and strength of character as Aaron Mankin, we can be proud of where we’re going.

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor the end of World War I, which officially took place on November 11, 1918. In legislation that was passed in 1938, November 11 was “dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be hereafter celebrated and known as ‘Armistice Day.’” As such, this new legal holiday honored World War I veterans.

In 1954, after having been through both World War II and the Korean War, the 83rd U.S. Congress — at the urging of the veterans service organizations — amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word “Armistice” and inserting the word “Veterans.” With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, Nov. 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars.

Brava, Pat. Wonderful post as always. And to Aaron Mankin, a debt to him and all the others we will spend a lifetime trying to repay.

I had to laugh when I heard President Obama urge us all not to jump to conclusions regarding a man with a “muslim sounding” name involved in a shooting at Ft. Hood. He said we didn’t have all the facts. The hypocrisy was startling. I thought back a few months when there was an incident between a white police officer and a black university professor, he was the first one to jump to the conclusion (despite also declaring at that time that he didn’t have all the facts) that the “police acted stupidly”. Who’s jumping now?

Truly remarkable. The spirit and motivation of Corporal Mankin is nothing short of inspirational.

instead of singing glowing odes to a liar and a loser who has done nothing positive for the country (mmmm mmmm) and holding up thugs and murderers as admirable or at least deserving of ‘ respect’ and tolerance that doesn’t ‘ rush to conclusions’ americans need to be repeatedly reinforced in the debt we all owe our veterans. the lack of proper concern for what happened at fort hood is profoundly shameful- these are the men and women who have committed themselves to protecting this country and our constitution knowing full well they could be making the ultimate sacrifice. offering them up on the chopping block of jihad aiding and abetting and obama’s vanity is criminal.

one george watson or aaron mankin is worth a million obamas, reids or pelosis.

private george watson us army posthumous awarded the medal of honor( by clinton) :

“He was a passenger aboard the Dutch steamer USAT s’Jacob on March 8, 1943, which was near Porlock Harbor, New Guinea, when the ship was hit by Japanese bombers.

When the ship was abandoned, Watson remained in the water and, instead of trying to save himself, assisted soldiers who could not swim into life rafts.

Weakened by his exertions, he was dragged down by the suction of the sinking ship and drowned. His body was never recovered. ”

why do i have the feeling that certain past presidents would be prone to save others while others would just let everyone else drown, doing nothing ?

when you read through the lists of those awarded the medal of honor the number of men who threw themselves on grenades to save their men astounds. and drives one to tears. public office needs to be akin to military service- instead of being for oneself or party it has to be viewed as service to the country . until we populate our political offices with people as committed to this country and the constitution as our veterans and serving heros , we will continue down this nightmarish path to slavery and misery.

It’s got to be me, but I swear the once had a look of disgust as he carried out his privilege to lay the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown…. He, being in the presence of our heroes should be like light to a vampire. No, I’m sure it’s just me.

Wow. I had my problems with President Bush in the last half of his second term. But, I never, ever questioned his love and respect for our military personnel.

I’m absolutely humbled the the gang at Hillbuz.org. And they certainly are an example in humbleness themselves. Thanks for the link, youbetcha!

      Wow!

    • Shifra says:

Thanks, Youbetcha! The article lifted yesterday’s bleak mood, after seeing that skinny, smirking, Marxist boy-president laying a wreath at Arlington. Palin/Dobbs 2012, anyone? How’s THAT for “hope and change” ?????

  17. eMVeeH says:

Wow! What a man. Thank you Cpl Mankin. This nation owes you much. May G-d shower you with many blessings on this Verteran’s Day and always!

It is grating to know that after their “service,” members of Congress have an incredible pension [Yes, that Botox Biddy {Pelosi}, a daughter of privilege, gets to receive great health care 'til she dies at our expense ]. It’s infuriating to know that the little “pensions” service members like Cpl. Aaron Mankin get for their honorable service and sacrfiice, the current administration tried to mess with earlier this year. Frankly, soldiers who have served in war theaters should not have to pay Federal taxes! That would be just “pay” for exposing the jugular for the country and us, and it’s the least we can do!

Hey, why don’t we do away with Congress’ “Cadillac Plans?” Might we not save quite a few bucks there?

The president has term limits. It’s time to limit service [uuugh!] in Congress, too .

  18. eMVeeH says:

Good Lord! You know things are bad when it’s the thieves that treat our service personnel with more respect and honor than the POTUS/FAUXTUS/CiC does!

  19. eMVeeH says:

    Just one more:
“…Just as the contributions that our servicemen and women make to this nation don’t end when they take off their uniform, neither do our obligations to them. And when we fulfill those obligations, we aren’t just keeping faith with our veterans; we are keeping faith with the ideals of service and sacrifice upon which this republic was founded…To the husbands and wives back home doing the parenting of two. To the parents who watch their sons and daughters go off to war, and the children who wonder when mom and dad is coming home. To all our wounded warriors, and to the families who laid a loved one to rest. America will not let you down. We will take care of our own.”
