The Circus Left Town
by Pat_S on December 24, 2009A post by Pat Get out the brooms. There’s a mess to clean up. The vote went down as expected, 60-39. The Democrats congratulated themselves, Obama made a speech, then they left. Joe Kernan of CNBC’s Squawk Box had an interesting take on the event. Because of a few hundred votes in Minnesota that elected a former SNL comedian to the Senate, 17% of the nation’s economy is now going to have a certain type of health care because of a couple hundred votes in Minnesota. There’s more than one clown to blame for this. These are no ordinary clowns either. They’re like the clowns in horror movies I can’t watch. We have a Congress that no longer cares about...

The Spirit at Christmas
by Pat_S on December 23, 2009A post by Pat Christmas is traditionally a time for gathering with family and friends. It has special meaning for Christians but the day is an opportunity for all to reflect on the treasure of love, the great gift of life and the wish for a better tomorrow. We’d like to forget the intruding worldly concerns bombarding us for just one day. Often the burdens of the world will not budge. For those of us who gather here, our hearts and minds are troubled by the assault on the founding principles of our country. Tomorrow, Christmas Eve, the Senate is going to pass an odious piece of legislation after a spectacle of contempt toward the American people. Many are feeling...

The President Salutes Us
by Tammy on December 22, 2009Swiped from Lucianne, it truly is the perfect illustration of what Obama thinks of us and what he’s doing to this nation. I’ve never been the patient type, I’m guessing it’s the Italian and Scots-Irish in me, but knowing we have recourse in 2010 makes me grateful and proud of our Founding Fathers. Never forget who you are and to whom you owe everything–President Washington would want you to stand, fight and win. It is the least we owe everyone who has fought and fallen for this nation. Like a bad piece of fish the fascist above will pass. It may be uncomfortable while it happens, but it will exit. We’ll make sure of that. In the meantime, he may...

Lindsey Graham: “We’re up here to run a country”
by Pat_S on December 22, 2009A post by Pat Lindsey Graham thinks it stinks how the health care bill is being rammed through. He’s never seen anything like it he says. Lack of transparency. Backroom deals. And he’s steaming about the Full Nelson put around the neck of the country by the Senator from Nebraska. Maybe other states should take legal action. Such indignation. It seems most of his indignation is that Republicans are being shut out. He reminds us how he’s been so bi-partisan in his role in the Gang of 14, his advocacy for immigration and voting for Sotomayor. We know. Graham: I do not think most believe this is ok. … I think it stinks. Graham: My country means more to me...

Whither Iran?
by Maynard on December 20, 2009A post by Maynard The Economist has published this report of the Iranian nuclear situation. It’s a good overview of where we are and how we got here. And this is the latest Economist update. That Iran is racing ahead with its illegal nuclear program is apparent to all. If and when Iran gets the bomb, then the threat of nuclear annihilation will hang over the region and the world. Either Iran will be the big dog controlling the world’s gas tank through intimidation, or there will be a regional rush for everyone to go nuclear. With the prevailing Mid-East mentality (that is to say, genocidal maniacs generally in charge), nuclear war will soon follow, one way or another. Should...

Tom Harkin on Senate Health Bill – “Only the beginning”
by Pat_S on December 19, 2009A post by Pat Inevitably, Sen. Nelson would go along. Nelson, as Sen. Burr (R-NC) noted, played “The Price is Right”. The details hardly matter. Same old, same old. Reid, Dodd, Harkin and Baucus ran to the podium to congratulate themselves on their marvelous creation that will save money, improve health and reduce the deficit. Chris Dodd took note that this is a long sought dream of Progressives since the time of FDR. Dodd actually declared that health care is now a right. He spoke about this health care bill as delivering on FDR’s vision of Freedom of Fear. In case with all the Senatorial bragging Americans got the wrong idea about what the mighty have delivered, Dodd clarified that...
