Barbara Walters interviewed the newly elected Senator from Massachusetts. I thought he did a good job answering the questions and avoiding the traps. She started off with Brown’s “resume”. I didn’t know a resume started at the age of twelve but that’s where Walters began with his arrest for shoplifting.

Walters asked if he thought Sarah Palin was presidential material. “Well sure”, he answered.

Walters brought up the meeting Obama had with the Republicans mentioning the President’s criticism about politicians demonizing each other. Walters added her observation that it seems to be working for Republicans. On the issues of abortion and gay marriage, Walters asked Brown, who is pro-choice, if his views were out of step with the Republican party and if he thought the party had to change. The big tent was pitched again. He says, “I’m a Scott Brown Republican” meaning he wants government to be more accountable and more accessible, fiscally conservative and moderate on social issues.

Playing Obama’s remarks about campaign fever, Walters asked if Brown thought the President got a message from the election in Massachusetts. Yes. Brown cited the President’s actions on a spending freeze and tax reductions. Brown says he wants to go beyond a spending freeze and cut spending. What three items, Walters asks. Brown wants a commission. (Bad idea, Obama will stack a commission in favor of tax increases and snare Republicans in for the blame.)

Walters has a touch of incredulity in her voice when she asks why if it’s good for Massachusetts to have universal healtcare, all Americans shouldn’t have it. Brown talks about the free market and individual states deciding. Walters asks if the whole plan should be scrapped. Brown says yes.

She asks if Brown thinks the President has made the country more safe. Brown said it isn’t just about the President. His job is to be our leader and to delegate to the proper authorities. He says he’s willing to help

Part 1

Part 2

I think Obama and the Democrats did get a message from the Massachusetts election. It wasn’t to give up their leftwing agenda. Why the Republicans think that meeting at their retreat went well for them, I don’t know. The Sunday shows were loaded with the obstructionist Republicans theme using Obama-only clips from that meeting. Their little get together with the President was part of the post-Massachusetts CYA Obama rehabilitation program. Blame the Republicans.

Barb-Lockjaw-Walters (female of Chuck Gibson) sure does blink alot. Loved this exchange re: don’t ask don’t tell – – After Sen. Brown answered the question; Barb, pressing, says: “but what is YOUR view?” (as though Brown had dodged). Brown answer: “I told you my view”. Love it.

    Thanks for the summary, Tammy.

Scott Brown – 1, Baba Wawa – O. Congratulations, Scott. Excellent point – federal employees make twice as much as their private-sector counterparts. That message needs to resonate from the Republicans. Let’s take the Democrats’ beloved class-envy tactic and turn it on them.

Interesting. Brown made a point of maintaining a tone of civility. He was thoughtful rather than knee-jerk. He gives the impression that he’ll fight the battles that are worth having (mainly on the issues of fiscal responsibility and local/personal freedom), but he won’t be disagreeable on simple partisan grounds. This is probably a practical approach, considering he’s from blue Massachusetts, and he wouldn’t get far as a Democrat-basher. But if he does what he said and chooses his battles carefully, he may do a world of good.

Being old enough to remember when women in broadcasting were truly second class citizens – (no one would take a woman anchor seriously, they didn’t have the gravitas needed to be appropriate as anchors on TV), I admired Barbara Walters for proving that women could not only do the job, but do it well. Seeing her interview world leaders, holding her own against the male-dominated field was inspirational. For that reason alone, I am willing to give her a pass. Over the years the playing field has leveled out, a lot more than many younger folks could imagine and while there are still barriers, a foundation has been laid. It is disappointing to watch Walters deteriorate, and in fact I have avoided her as much as possible. Too painful to see those you once admired choose to make themselves look foolish. She did her part way back then and I am grateful. As for Scott Brown, he did his part by becoming the “41st vote”, I don’t expect much more from him, and have a feeling he will disappoint the true believers in the conservative movement. I hope I am wrong, but pragmatically I know that heroes of the moment are after all still human and can fall from the pedestals we build for them.
We are finding our voice as independent conservatives, and as Tammy often says, we are cats who refuse to be rounded up. I see us as a tapestry, woven of many different threads, each unique in texture and design adding our small bit to the others and building a brilliant and vibrant whole. Separately we have our flaws, and sometimes we will disappoint, but careful weaving will allow the best of each of us to shine through. So I will keep Walters in my tapestry, and add Brown to it as well. It is still a work in progress, and I know there are some golden threads just waiting to be incorporated.

I am sorry I gave so much money to Scott Brown. I wasn’t sure how much we would have to contribute to his campaign to make sure he won and Death Care was stopped. We won but Scott had Romney and Mc Cain backing which I did not see from his many articles etc on his campaign site.
Oh Well ,now he has $4 million left for his next camapign in 2010.

Tammy has an Allen West ad on this site so I sent Allen some money last week. She also has a Palin http://www.sarahpac.com ad which I used. We have to keep giving!
My opinions about the FEC report on Sarah Pac:

As a local fundraiser for non profit groups and city and county candidates for office and judgeships I rather enjoyed seeing this last FEC report for Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin. I suggested to anyone who would listen to go and contribute more to Sarah Palin’s PAC and not to celebrate for her totals. This is my experience -don’t settle.

All I can say about Newt’s 527 PAC, which has no limit (I think) for individual contributors is: WHY ARE PEOPLE GIVING NEWT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS EACH YEAR? People must like his commercials with Nancy Pilosi on Global Warming and his endorsement of DEDE what’s her face in NY. Hannity loves the guy and wants him to run for president. Newt has the same reputation as EF Hutton. My Newt Portfolio would be a disaster . I am dismissive of him but at my own risk: Newt is the TOP CONSERVATIVE on TWITTER (#TCOT).

When I read the FEC report for http://www.SarahPac.com I was less than pleased with myself. The limit per year for Sarah Pac is $5000 for individuals. I barely made a fifth of my contribution limit.

I would say Palin’s 14,000 contributors need to give the same amount of contributions to Sarah Pac this next quarter and get 14,000 more people to pitch in for the first time. Politco supplied Newt’s and Sarah’s break downs.

” He says, “I’m a Scott Brown Republican” meaning he wants government to be more accountable and more accessible, fiscally conservative and moderate on social issues.”

    Hmmm.
Why are Liberal views like pro abortion “moderate” but conservative views (anti-abortion) are “right wing” or “extremist”? How odd that being okay with slaughtering the unborn is considered a middle-of-the-road stance.
I had an abortion at 17. I would give my life in a second if it would give her life back.

I know this is a bit of a tangent, it just puzzles me how casual and dismissive we are on the subject. It has become completely politicized, and we are entirely overlooking the actual act of killing the child.

I’m a little upset at Senator Elect Brown response to Barbara WaWa’s question regarding the President has made the country more safe. Brown’s response was that Obama’s job is to be our leader and to delegate to the proper authorities.

Excuse me, but as a former Army Officer, the first thing pounded into my newly minted 2nd Lieutenant psyche was that Authority can be delegated, Responsibliity can not. Senator Brown should have remembered this.

As the President of the United States and the Commander and Chief, Obama can delegate authority he can not delegate the final responsible for what happens during his tenure.

    • VinceP1974 says:

      Essentially you’re arguing about semantics.

Brown’s point was valid. It’s not the President who is actually doing the protecting, it’s the people in the offices and agencies who do that. All the President can do is motivate the employees to do the jobs the Government has tasked them to do.

So Brown is putting the responsiblity where it belongs.. it belongs to Obama to properly lead.

look out- ba ba has a “history” concerning massachusetts republican senators.

she had an affair, she claims , with the last one edward brooke.

it actually is the primary job of the president to keep the citizens and their constitution safe- that’s why he is the commander in chief. he’s not suppose to be a nanny or a wet nurse to the population but it’s protector and defender.

obama has pushed it further- he’s set himself as our destroyer and democrats are aiding and abetting the process. republicans can never lose sight of this by giving the guy an inch or any semblance that he really wants to work with them- we know that’s not true. and brown was elected because of his stance on protecting the country and the rights of the citizens. brown needs to be reminded as they all do that after talking the talk to get what they want they better walk the walk .

  12. Count Crash says:

There’s “pro-choice” it doesn’t matter what the situation is go ahead and abort life ie planned parenthood, and there’s a responsible, sitiuation specific, reasonable choice supported by caring counsel that presents all possible outcomes in a gentle and smart manner. Which the Gov. and public funds should be excluded from either way. So many young people facing this situation don’t recieve counsel on all possible choices, thinking that they are alone. They are most certainly not! There are tens if not hundreds of agencies, organizations, and groups that can porvide all the info a couple may need to make this life changing choice (and yes gentlemen you should be involved in this as well!!!). So where does Senator Brown actually stand on this issue I would like to know. I’m not wholly convinced this guy is on the up-n-up (he is a politician after all) so we wait and see where he goes.

As far as Bawbwa is concered I would love to see her interview Elmer Fud, otherwise I never really cared for her.
