I was really surprised to hear DOJ claim 300 terrorists were tried in civilian courts under the Bush administration. I remembered the exchange between Holder and Lindsey Graham back in November over the KSM trial. The “We’re making history here” exchange. Graham asked Holder how many enemy combatants caught on the battlefield had been tried in civilian courts. Holder was stumped. He said he’d have to check. Sen. Graham informed him the answer is zero. Now the administration is saying 300 terrorists were tried in civilian courts.

Surprise, but the Obama administration is playing with the numbers. If you count “terror-related” crimes, like financial fraud, you get 100′s of civilian cases. If you mean enemy combatants caught on the battlefield, like, oh let’s say KSM, hmmm, not so much.

Playing the Numbers Game With Terrorism

The Administration boasts that the United States has successfully prosecuted hundreds of terrorists in federal court in the past, and as such, we should continue to use federal courts for the most serious terrorists, like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. What they don’t tell you, however, is that they are playing fast and loose with the numbers and types of terrorists tried in federal court.

The Administration’s numbers come from a report by a liberal organization called Human Rights First. Now, thanks to another outstanding article by Andrew McCarthy, we know the truth about the numbers and the Human Rights First terrorist trial report. The report analyzed 119 “terrorism-related” cases with 289 defendants (as of June 2, 2009) and found that 195 were convicted for a 91% conviction rate. But McCarthy, the former Assistant US Attorney in Southern New York and writer for National Review, explains that in its political calculation of “doubling down on civilian due process,” the Left is playing a bogus numbers game.

It is comparing apples to oranges to compare a terrorist who was one spark away from blowing a jetliner out of the sky and murdering hundreds of people to somebody who donated money to a front charity or helped move jihadist funds around.

More magic numbers from the Obama administration.

When I read about this earlier, it just did not compute. Thank you for clearing it up for me. :)

This kind of semantic tomfoolery (is that a word even?.. I just like the way it sounds) is what you get when you deal with the indigenous parasitic species of Washington DC … The Bureaucratis-Lawyeropolis. Thanks for the update Pat, I knew they were hedging the definition of ‘Terrorist’, I just assumed they would at least put a little bit of effort into it.

Absolutely disgusting. This kind of twisting of numbers and facts is the same thing as LYING, but to Barry and his band of Chicago thugs, it’s perfectly acceptable. It’s amazing just how stupid this administration believes the American public is. If we re-elect this jackass in 2012, expect it to get worse.

I remember when, as only a youngster, I heard of Senator Joe McCarthy waving a paper in the air claiming it was a list of Communists in government. He was treated pretty poorly. These clowns don’t even have a scrap of paper – apart from their standard usage two-ply – to wave.
Of course, should they contrive to find this roster of convictions, when might they claim were the prosecutions and what were the actual charges?
