Kudos to a Brave Saudi Housewife
by Pat_S on March 31, 2010A post by Pat It’s a jarring dichotomy that poetry is highly regarded in a culture that dehumanizes women. In the Arab world, well known poets are treated like rock stars. One brave woman is rocking the boat with her poems. “The Milliion’s Poet” is a talent contest show like “American Idol” or the British T.V. “X Factor”, but for poets. The run-of-the-mill poetry heard on the show is about Bedouin Life, praising the glories of rulers or ruing the disparity between rich and poor. Hissa Hilal, a Saudi housewife, did something different. In a live broadcast across the entire Arab world, wearing her burkha, alone on stage, Hissa Hilal attacked hardline clerics as ‘vicious in voice, barbaric, angry and...

Harry Reid Threatens Tea Partiers With a Rifle!
by Tammy on March 31, 2010Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, upset with all that Tea Party stuff, picked up a rifle and started to shoot. It’s obvious even though he wasn’t shooting at people or anyone at all, he was probably thinking about Tea Partiers, and thinking maybe some hate (or is that a feeling??), which means, of course, this must be considered a threat. I mean, really. Rifle. Pointing. Shooting. Probably thinking. And at a time when Tea Party Patriots were in the same state doing something. Obviously, probably maybe a Hate Crime and likely a Thought-ish Crime. I mean, pulling a trigger is a violent thing to do! Did anyone check to see what he was thinking at the time? I betcha he...

Don’t Hold Your Breath for More Offshore Drilling
by Pat_S on March 31, 2010A post by Pat You shouldn’t hold your breath waiting for the new offshore drilling. You may have to hold your breath after the EPA declares CO2 a regulated pollutant. Today’s news will be about the President announcing approval for more offshore drilling. Has he succumbed to the Power of Palin? Not exactly. For one thing Alaska is losing leases. The details hardly matter though because the announcement today will not see fruition for many, many years. That’s the optimistic outlook. If you’re like me, you have a strong suspicion it’s never going to happen until there is a seismic shift in government. The approval is part of a deal to get some kind of cap-and-trade legislation out of Congress...

Obama: HC Law Is Critical ‘First Step’
by Pat_S on March 29, 2010A post by Pat MSNBC released a preview clip of Obama’s exclusive interview with drooling Matt Lauer which will air tomorrow. (video) Matt Lauer: Let’s talk about health care reform. Health care law. It is seen as a huge victory for you, your presidency, for Democrats and a tough pill to swallow for Republicans. It has been described in a lot of different ways, your Vice President described it in colorful terms, how do you describe it? President Obama: I think it is a critical first step in making a health care system that works for all Americans. It is not going to be the only thing. We are still going to have adjustments that have to be made to...

This Year in Jerusalem
by Maynard on March 29, 2010A post by Maynard Passover and Easter are upon us. You’ve heard Tammy discuss the rising tensions between Israel and America. The latest round started when VP Biden’s visit to Israel coincided with a badly-timed announcement of a housing project in East Jerusalem. For a succinct summary of the ongoing debacle, including relevant historical background, read this op-ed written by the former Mayor of New York City, Ed Koch (D). A large majority of Congress objects to Obama’s hostile stance. 327 congressmen signed a letter expressing concern that “the highly publicized tensions” in US-Israeli ties will “not advance the interests” of either state.

The King is Not Pleased – Corporate Critics Summoned to Explain Themselves
by Pat_S on March 29, 2010A post by Pat No sky falling after the health care bill was passed said Obama. Many executives of major corporations disagree. They are warning the health care law is going to cost businesses millions. That is not the kind of talk the Democrats want to hear so the executives have been summoned before Congress by Henry Waxman to explain. And bring lots of documents with you too. It is pure bullying and intimidation. As awful as this is, it’s no surprise. It could be a gift, an eye-opener to those who still have not seen what’s happening to us. The Democrats are totally addicted to the narcotic levels of power they’ve indulged in. They’re not even bothering to disguise...
