For Those Who Want More Kathryn Bigelow

So to speak. Here’s the Best Director Oscar winner in a rather unfortunate music video from about 1988, directed by James Cameron to whom Bigelow was married from 1989-1991. The good news is in this Western-type thingy, Bigelow doesn’t play a floozy, she plays a tough cowboy posse leader (should we expect anything less?). Save yourself some anguish, jump to about 2:50 in and look for the posse leader wearing a poncho and chewing on a cigar. It just goes to show you, you can do a really bad music video, marry the director, have the marriage not be not good either, and still become an Oscar-winning director 22 years later. What? Don’t say I never gave you anything ;)

Okay, okay, for those who want more of a grown up ‘more,’ here’s about 2 minutes of Bigelow on Charlie Rose talking about directing.

Damn, Kathryn Bigelow looks sexy for 58. Is it wrong for me to say that I wish I was that Oscar right now? >:)

I didn’t know she used to be married to James Cameron. It’s pretty sweet then that she beat him at the Oscars. I’m not a fan of his.

One of her movies was Strange Days. Strange Days has the same sort of anti-climax that the James Cameron’s Abyss did… it was like you knew that the movie was building up to something very powerful but that the running time was getting so long, that you could tell that they started to edit too much out and ruined the precise timing.

That video was awful. But, I sure like that Harley in it! I’d look good cruising Route 66 on it.

lol! That is one of the worst videos I’ve ever seen! but worth it to see her. The posse leader thing must’ve stuck, 60 Minutes’ profile included shots of her ranch and horses. She’s awesome.

Tammy,
Would it be crass of me to ask if that is a promotional video for Bigelow Tea and A?

actor bill paxton was in martini ranch. the video suits them as they kind of sucked. paxton did however do the video for the song ‘fish heads’ by barnes and barnes a novelty band with billy mumy from lost in space.

“fish heads fish heads/ eat them up / yum.”

but i suppose there will be none of that sort of thing once fishing is outlawed.

so this is all a sort of 6 degrees or whatever separation thing from barry/urkel.

omg everything is about barry…

Sure, I want more Kathryn, an absolutely beautiful woman and an accomplished filmmaker. STRANGE DAYS is a longtime personal favorite of mine, although it’s a little heavy-handed and not for everyone. I would also recommend K-19 THE WIDOWMAKER. It will be interesting to see which Hollywood leftists vie to be in her next big action movie, some mob epic that takes place in South America called TRIPLE FRONTIER.

Triple Frontier…Looks very interesting. I read the wikipedia entry about the region and the possibilites are great. al-Qaeda, organized crime, a tri-border area difficult to police. I hope they leave her alone and let her make it the way she wants to.
