Tax Cheat Rangel Sends Tax Advice to His Constituents At Taxpayers’ Expense
by Pat_S on March 25, 2010A post by Pat Who better to give tax advice than a shady dealing member of Congress? Rangel had no “constructive knowledge” about who pays for his vacations and was dumbfounded about paying taxes on a $75,000 vacation villa. At our expense, he is sending out tax advice flyers to his constituents. Rep. Charlie Rangel’s constituents tell congressman to keep tax advice to himself The congressman, who helped write the U.S. tax code – only to break it himself – mailed a tax-season flyer to constituents. “Hopefully, the information in this guide can help put money back into your pockets,” Rangel says in the glossy, full-color mailbox-stuffer. [...] “This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense,” it saysRangel’s...

ObamaCare Monster Forced Back to the House
by Tammy on March 25, 2010Cry me a river. And the House Democrats thought they had sent Frankenstein on his way. The GOP made this happen–good for them. And to think of all their complaining and hysteria about supposed “threats” Democrats have received since this monster passed. The only people threatened this last week have been the American people, and the only thing in danger of being harmed is the Constitution and the future of this nation. Now, like a bad, way-too-spicy dinner, this thing is gonna come right back up for the Dems. While this very probably won’t affect much, it is a sign to everyone that the GOP isn’t exactly going to just sit back and let the fascists casually remake the Constitution...

The Insurance Mandate Is Unconstitutional
by Tammy on March 25, 2010From Reason, here’s one of the more direct and clear explanations why. Don’t Buy It The crazy constitutional logic of the individual insurance mandate A few weeks before Congress passed a law that orders every American to buy health insurance, the Virginia legislature passed a law that says “no resident of this Commonwealth…shall be required to obtain or maintain a policy of individual insurance coverage.” Two weeks later, Idaho’s governor signed a law that declares “every person within the state of Idaho is and shall be free to choose or decline to choose any mode of securing health care services without penalty.” Supporters of ObamaCare say such legislation, which more than 30 other states are considering, has no force, since...

What Would You Give Nancy Pelosi for Her Birthday?
by Pat_S on March 24, 2010A post by Pat Pelosi to celebrate the big 7-0 on Friday House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has a big birthday coming up on Friday, and after passing historic healthcare reform legislation this week, she’s got plenty to celebrate. But while her office is remaining mum on the Speaker’s plans, the owner of Washington’s toniest gift shop has some great ideas for birthday presents. Keith Lipert counts royalty, ambassadors, CEOs and members of Congress among the clients who come to his Georgetown shop for help deciding on the perfect, and most diplomatic, gifts. [...] He advises to “consider asking a few people who admire her to inscribe a leather-bound Constitution, which only costs $20, thanking her for herservice.” Whatever you...

The Great Debate: Quiznos Versus Subway
by Maynard on March 24, 2010A post by Maynard Tammy said she preferred Quiznos over Subway. I’m here to challenge that point. I acknowledge taste as a personal thing. So I don’t need to convince anyone to change their taste. Eat whatever you like, and God bless you. But I have some data to add to the equation. Tammy enjoys the taste of a toasted Quiznos sandwich. But Subway will also toast your sandwich. More importantly, there’s a darned good reason not to toast your sandwich. California is an enlightened state, and Los Angeles is an enlightened county. Because we’re so enlightened, the sales tax here is something like 9.75%. However, there is no sales tax on basic foods. Sales tax is applied to restaurants...

DNC Cashes In On Violence Hype
by Pat_S on March 24, 2010A post by Pat Another orchestrated news day. This time it was about vitriol and rage directed against Democrats who voted for the health care bill. The media acted as though the barbarians were at the gates although the actual incidents were few, isolated and small. ABC did its part covering the story but went one step too far and gave the game away. The DNC is raising money from this phony alarm. You can bet it was the DNC feeding these stories to the lapdog media. Is it too low for the Democrats to go to stage some of this? Hah! The incidents are relatively small and isolated, but they have captured the attention of Congressional leaders and law...

Is Your Sex Life Everything It Should Be?
by Maynard on March 24, 2010Maynard contemplates Republican strategy The query about your degree of carnal satisfaction is one of the great advertising come-ons. Is there anyone that is completely sexually satisfied, or completely satisfied in any way at all? It’s fundamental to human nature to feel things could improve. Thus every challenger to every political incumbent tells the citizens the world should be better, and the reason things are a mess (whether they’re a mess or not) is entirely because of the jackass that currently occupies the office. Sometimes the public buys it, and sometimes they don’t. But it’s always a good ploy. The challenger has the advantage of contrasting his image of utopian perfection against a flawed reality. A lot of people won’t...

Sounds Like a Death Panel To Me
by Tammy on March 23, 2010Considering we’ve been told there is no Death Panel in Obama’s “health care” overhaul, I was really just kinda gobsmacked to read how there is, uh, a Death Panel in the new health care legislation. Of course, one must get to the very last paragraph in Bloomberg’s article to discover that. Health-Care Overhaul Changes to Start Taking Effect This Year …The legislation also creates an Independent Payment Advisory Board to suggest cuts in spending by Medicare, the government health program for the elderly and disabled, that could threaten payments for drug and device-makers. Starting in 2014, the panel’s recommendations would take effect unless federal lawmakers substitute their own reductions. Oh wait, my bad. It’s not a Death Panel, silly me,...

Piloting With Urges to Crash
by Pat_S on March 23, 2010A post by Pat Reminds me of the current administration and Congressional leadership. Qantas Pilot Allowed to Fly Despite Urges to Crash Jets A Qantas pilot suffering from a mental illness was allowed to keep flying for three years despite complaining of his urges to crash his planes. Bryan Arthur Griffin worked as a pilot with Qantas from 1966 to 1982, when he resigned suffering from severe obsessive compulsive disorder, depression and anxiety. Griffin struggled to resist an overwhelming urge to switch off his plane’s engines on several occasions between 1979 and 1982, evidence tendered as part of a worker’s compensation claim stated. Qantas had failed to understand his serious psychiatric problem and he should have been medically retired, a...
