Targeting Free Speech – H.R. 5175, The DISCLOSE Act
by Pat_S on June 15, 2010A post by Pat The DISCLOSE Act, an acronym for the egregiously misnamed “Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections Act”, is expected to come to a vote soon in the House. Proponents of the bill want to sell it as correcting the Supreme Court Citizens United decision regarding the First Amendment right of American corporations. President Obama took the unprecedented action of publicly scolding the Supreme Court for this decision during his State of the Union address. He called for legislation to prevent foreign companies from taking advantage of this ruling. The President’s alarm was itself a red herring as there is already existing law, the Foreign Agents Registration Act of 1996, which prohibits independent political...

Our World of Crap That Needs to Go Back
by Tammy on June 14, 2010It’s Recall-arama Monday! Here are three recalls worthy of note. I’m sure there are hundreds more out there, but we must address the kitties, the blinds and the Chinese washing machines that will kill you. Yes, kill you! Whether or not you’re a monk, dressed in an orange robe, or a pesky democracy demonstrator. Just be an American washing your clothes and you might get nailed. 1) GE recalls China-manufactured washing machines over safety fears GE has launched a US recall of China-manufactured washing machines amid fears that certain appliances can catch fire and electrocute consumers. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with GE, announced a voluntary recall of around 181,000 of its GE Front-Load Washing Machines. It...

Why the James Cole Nom for Dep Atty Gen at DOJ Must Be Stopped
by Tammy on June 14, 2010Urgent Action Alert for tomorrow! A message from Debra Burlingame of 911 Families for a Safe and Strong America. Dear 9/11 Families and Friends: President Obama has nominated James Cole to be the Deputy Attorney General (DAG) at the the Department of Justice. This is a critically important position. While Attorney General Eric Holder is the nominal head of the Justice Department, it is the deputy attorney general who actually runs the day-to-day operations of the entire department. For instance, it was Mr. Holder who, as DAG during the Clinton administration, orchestrated the Sept. 1999 clemencies of 16 terrorists belonging to the FALN, a Puerto Rican separatist group that carried out 146 bombings which killed 9 people and maimed NYPD...

Obama Boss George Soros Ready To Profit From Oil Disaster
by Tammy on June 14, 2010**Welcome Hot Air and Fox Nation readers!** Perhaps this is why drilling in Alaska is off the table–it would actually keep America safe and strong and won’t make Obama Boss George Soros even richer than he is now. Interestingly, it seems the more trouble we have, the better it is for Soros. Last year, Soros noted he was “having a very good crisis” having bet against the United States and profiting from her economic downturn. Now we learn Soros is set to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Gulf oil catastrophe. With Obama’s ‘moratorium’ and the Obama Admin’s general hostility to drilling, it’s reported many oil companies have already looked into with Brazil regarding a move those shores....

Happy Flag Day!
by Tammy on June 14, 2010I hope you’re flying yours high. Everyday, in fact. Here’s some background on how Flag Day got started, courtesy of the National Flag Day Foundation. On June 14th, 1885, Bernard J. Cigrand, a 19 year old teacher at Stony Hill School, placed a 10 inch, 38- star flag in a bottle on his desk then assigned essays on the flag and its significance. This observance, commemorated Congresses adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777. This observance was also the beginning of Cigrand’s long years of fervent and devoted effort to bring about national recognition and observance of Flag Day. The crowning achievement of his life came at age fifty when...
