Here’s the ad. Pass it around. Let’s make sure it goes certifiably viral.

Liberal, hypocritical cowards. This is why traditional, terrestrial “news” is simply not trusted or taken seriously, and why New Media must remake the communication network.

CBS and NBC have refused to air a provocative ad from the confrontational, well-funded National Republican Trust PAC that calls on Americans to oppose the building of a mosque two blocks from the World Trade Center site.

The ad — which has about 100,000 views on YouTube — intersperses some of the most horrifying images from the Sept. 11 attacks with the sounds of Muslim prayer and images of Muslim militants. It focuses on what’s become a divisive — and partisan — issue in New York state, the erection of a Muslim cultural center on Park Place, in the neighborhood near the fallen towers.

“On Sept. 11, they declared war against us,” the ad’s narrator says. “And to celebrate that murder of 3,000 Americans, they want to build a monstrous 13-story mosque at ground zero.”

In her letter rejecting the spot, NBC Universal advertising standards manager Jennifer Riley wrote:

“An ad questioning the wisdom of building a mosque at ground zero would meet our issues of public controversy advertising criteria. However, this ad which ambiguously defines ‘they’ as referenced in the spot makes it unclear as to whether the reference is to terrorists or to the Islamic religious organization that is sponsoring the building of the mosque. Consequently, the ad is not acceptable under our guidelines for broadcast.”

The ad ambiguously defines “they”, just as the Grand Jury ambiguously defined “is” for Bill Clinton.

Powerful images and an effective ad.

BTW, the word is not “militants,” but TERRORISTS.

I think the ad should’ve made specific references to what the imam who wants the mosque constructed has said. According to some reports he supports a radicalized version of Islam, and subtly supports terrorists, though people differ about that. It would be good to know where the money for this project is coming from. From what I’ve heard such large mosques are typically financed by the Saudi government, and what gets preached in them is Wahabism, which is one of the radical forms of Islam that we are fighting against internationally.

What I did not like about the ad is it appeared to tie anyone who would want to build a mosque, particularly at the site near Ground Zero, with Al Qaeda. It’s an intolerant message which I imagine GOPTrust did not mean to send (maybe I’m wrong), but they could’ve done it in a way that was specific while not making a blanket statement that sounds like “All Muslims are terrorists”. If we are going to keep our ethic of religious tolerance we should be open to the idea that a peaceful Muslim organization that does not support extremism might want to build a mosque near the site, to do as this group says, “Promote reconciliation”. If that were actually the case I think that could only be for the good.

Especially not at ground zero and no where else in America. There should not be one mosque in this country anywhere PERIOD! A MOSQUE FREE AMERICA.

Islam is not a religion of peace PERIOD. (See “Ishmael” in Genesis 16.)

There are plenty of mosques around NYC and in Brooklyn where I live. I’m against the Ground Zero mosque because all people need to do is pull back the curtain on what’s going on behind the scenes for this particular mosque…however, most won’t do that. Both sides are painting the issue with too broad of a brush and are consequently alienating each other. It would behoove the anti-mosque people to speak cogently about the political agendas behind this particular mosque being built, and not just “a mosque”, IMHO. I’ve been saying for years how Bloomberg is in bed with Obama as per his education agenda, but perhaps in this arena it is more evident. You’d think that, as a Jewish man, our mayor would be more resistant to greenlighting a project spearheaded by an antisemetic misogynist, but I guess if it doesn’t affect him personally, who cares about a few inroads into implementing Sharia in this country?
Say what you will about Rick Lazio (I oppose his stance on raising the cap on charter schools) but he’s the only leader willing to stand up for what dyed in the wool NYers really feel about it. Bloomberg is tsk-tsking him for speaking against it and so is Bloomberg’s media…because what Bloomberg wants, Bloomberg gets (surreptitiously changing term limits law, etc). Like Obama, Bloomberg is the type to do things in the dead of night & hope that no one notices until it’s over.

Sorry…additionally, where is Rudy Giuliani’s voice in all this? I know he opposes the mosque. It would really help to hear more from him on it. He endorsed Bloomberg in 2001 but by now Bloomberg’s really gone way off the reservation in all sorts of ways…surely, Giuliani’s like, WTF? Back then, after 9/11, I not only supported Bloomberg for mayor but I even volunteered for his campaign!! *ashamed* (What a sorry mistake that was, but I really had no idea he’d turn City Hall into Tammany 2.0. and refuse to leave office when his term was up.)
