energy always fools the propagandists. GummitMotors invested a billion or so in an electric car no one wanted to buy and they were savaged for it(" who killed the electric car?") and a vast right wing conspiracy was blamed for admittedly crappy pr and a product fraught with limitations that was sick expensive. and no one would buy it. propaganda is about nothing but reinventing the electric car in complete disregard for the cost in energy required to make and maintain it.

even the germans realized that volkswagon was a scam to get money from them- most never got that car they paid in over years to obtain. the electric car is the liberal's volkswagon- literally a vehicle of propaganda- that the folks will never be able to afford. strength through environmental( fill in the blank here- racial, class etc.) guilt.

physics teaches us that perpetual motion is not possible. it has been the obsession of odd ball inventors and serious scientists for thousands of years. champions of the electric car as the answer to all humanity's energy problems need some lessons in physics. tesla thought we'd get all the energy we needed from the air but he was always part magician for all his wonderful achievements. we are not there yet. even the french realized going nuclear was the viable option. the other day they declared war on al qaeda. isn't it time tammy finally said, instead of "at least we're not french" into "hey ,let's be french for a change". and i am seriously thinking that the only way we get these fools out of office will be to storm capitol hill and set up the guillotine. they are that insane and capable of any and all atrocities to maintain power.

Burning gasoline to produce electricity to move the car 300 miles is less efficient than just burning the gasoline to move the car 300 miles. The conversion to electricity will be at less than 100% efficiency. The 40 miles the battery provides wouldn't even allow me to run my normal errands and go shopping, let alone commute to work. This sounds like a very poorly designed hybrid.

We've neglected our electrical grid and our electric power supplies for decades. Tammy mentioned that the 1977 projections would have us with 1,000 nuclear power plants by now. We don't have them, and because we don't, we'd be relying on coal, oil and natural gas to produce electricity to power fully electric cars. But we lack the generating capacity and the bandwidth to deliver the electrical power when and where needed.

Bottom line is this is more theater to distract us while Obama destroys the country. Watch the other hand.

the thing about dependence on oil -- aside from manipulation, like by Democrats in the election cycle or Democrats in the guise of cap and tax, oil is affordable, easy to move around, fun to find, easy to change, burns up powerfully and lastly: Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. In fact the biggest hassle for us is how every state taxes us for every blessed gallon. And still our roads stink (I'm in Pennsylvania, land of the Pothole as a State of Being). Don't matter to them, their taxes keep right up with Opec cartel.

"But but but my gas guzzling Suburban Assault Vehicle costs me big bucks to keep on the road". Well shove it, bub. Toyoto Corollas have been around since forever and still get decent milage. There's alternatives that are affordable, if you must. But really, everyone has kept up nicely with the cost of oil, and its derivative, gasoline.

Caring about the cost because of all those little people in those little countries elsewhere is stupid. We could have always afforded gasoline and oil, especially if we spent our treasure on frowning upon bad users of our money in exchange for bulk oil. But no, we need to wear Al Gore's Hair Shirt, we need to say we're sorry because we've got a big dynamic country that's decently free, we need to kowtow to some stupid concept of conniving socialists to cap our CO2 emissions, ya da ya da ya da.

Don't matter a whit. We could have always afforded it, whatever it cost. Eventually, it may even cost a war. Don't matter, we could afford that too. We got the Crips and Bloods and the up and coming MS13, some of the finest killers in the world.

So here's your stupid world: the USA is still 3000 miles wide and a tad shorter. Getting around will still take some energy. So does doing work. Playing pretend with silly stuff like the Volt won't hack it.

Simple demonstration: Iowa floods last year and in comes all those Ford 150's to haul those sandbags. "Get her done, bub, we got a job to do."

Try that in your pipsqueak electric kiddy car.
