DEA Hiring “Ebonics” Translators
by Tammy on August 24, 2010DEA wants to hire Ebonics translators Wanted by the Drug Enforcement Administration: Ebonics translators. It might sound like a punch line, as “Ebonics” — the common name for what linguists call African-American English — has long been the butt of jokes, as well as the subject of controversy. But the agency is serious about needing nine people to translate conversations picked up on wiretaps during investigations, Special Agent Michael Sanders said Tuesday. A solicitation was sent to contractors as part of a request to companies to provide hundreds of translators in 114 languages. “DEA’s position is, it’s a language form we have a need for,” Sanders said. “I think it’s a language form that DEA recognizes a need to have...

The Snazzy Napper – Privacy in a
by Pat_S on August 24, 2010BurqaBagA post by Pat Use it in the car! Use it on the bus! Use it on the train! Use it on an airplane! It’s like privacy in a bag. That’s how it’s being sold. No stigma attached to covering up like this in public. It’s practical and fun. The Snazzy Napper has been getting a lot of attention after CNN ran a story about it. It is the creation of Dr. Margaret Wilson who came up with the idea after having to put a jacket over herself to catch a few winks on a plane. With the Snazzy Napper, “they don’t have to look at you with your mouth open while you sleep”. Right, they’ll be looking at you...

Patriots Demonstrate Against GZ Mosque; Little Daisy Whines
by Tammy on August 22, 2010**UPDATE: Little Daisy Audio–Mosque Leader: Opposition Is About “Hate Of Muslims” Women patriots demonstrating against the GZ Mosque today in New York I do have a few choice words at the end of this post. Here’s coverage of the protest today at Ground Zero and the pathetic complaints of Obama’s favorite Hillary Clinton Department funded Islamists. Ground Zero Mosque Opponents, Supporters Turn Out to Demonstrate Several hundred opponents of the project turned out in drizzling rain, chanting, “No mosque at Ground Zero.” They carried signs saying, “You Can Build Your Mosque at Ground Zero When We Can Build Our Synagogue at Mecca,” and “Building a Mosque at Ground Zero Is Like Building a Memorial to Hitler at Auschwitz.” “We don’t...

Why It’s Nice That Ann-Margret Won An Emmy Last Night
by Tammy on August 22, 2010On Saturday night here in Los Angeles legendary actor Ann-Margret finally won an Emmy after 6 previous nominations (she’s also been nominated twice for an Oscar). While the main Emmy awards are next Sunday, the “Creative Arts” subset were handed out Saturday night to behind-the-scenes people and actors nominated for guest-starring roles. The now 69-year-old performer won her statuette for Guest Actress in a Drama Series on Law & Order: SVU. Why they would not have category like this air on the main show is beyond me, but that’s another issue. I mention Ann-Margret because in this day of Hollywood leading the charge against our military, making movies and television shows that regularly cast our troops as villains, it’s worth...

Tara Wall: Dr. Laura Has a Point
by Tammy on August 20, 2010A refreshing and to-the-point commentary on Dr. Laura, the “n-word” and hypocrisy. I have one word for Ms. Wall–the “b-word” — as in “Brava.” And do please click through and read the whole thing. Dr. Laura has a point Dr. Laura Schlessinger boldly went where no one but the hypocritical black elite can boldly go. For that, she deserves respect, not ridicule. While the good doctor used a word so forbidden that it has been relegated to rappers and street slingers, she brought attention to an issue worth addressing once and for all. It’s talked about in beauty salons, barbershops, urban radio shows and at black family reunions. But not out loud. She may not be the “right” messenger for...
