Czech This Out – Vaclav Klaus Tells UN Mind Your Own Business
by Pat_S on September 25, 2010A post by Pat Czech president tells UN to stay out of economics Czech President Vaclav Klaus on Saturday criticized U.N. calls for increased “global governance” of the world’s economy, saying the world body should leave that role to national governments. The solution to dealing with the global economic crisis, Klaus told the U.N. General Assembly, did not lie in “creating new governmental and supranational agencies, or in aiming at global governance of the world economy.” “On the contrary, this is the time for international organizations, including the United Nations, to reduce their expenditures, make their administrations thinner, and leave the solutions to the governments of member states,” he said. Sweet. Klaus also said the measures taken so far combating...

“Fair Elections Now Act”: H.R. 6116 – Public Funding
by Pat_S on September 25, 2010A post by Pat The same day the DISCLOSE Act failed, the Fair Elections Now Act, H.R. 6116, was passed out of committee. (5-2 no Republican support.) This bill is about public campaign funding. Candidates who opt for public funding would receive 4:1 matching funds for campaign contributions of $100 or less. They will also receive a 20% discount off the lowest broadcast rates. Their PAC money would be limited to $100 per individual per year. The candidate would have to raise $50,000 from within his own community to qualify. Matching funds are for in-state contributions only. The goal is to set up an alternative system of financing Congressional campaigns. Fair Elections funding would be available for primary and run-off...

Whither North Korea?
by Maynard on September 25, 2010A post by Maynard What is going on in North Korea? We don’t read much in the news, because the place is so secretive. Therefore we don’t have pictures, and it’s easy to ignore what we cannot see, especially since we’re all busy calling each other racists. But NorKo could become suddenly important, considering 1) The leaders are certifiable lunatics, and 2) They control one of the world’s biggest armies, not to mention nuclear weapons, and 3) There is reason to believe the leadership is changing from the (somewhat) known kook to a new, unknown kook. Or possibly the various unknown kooks-in-waiting will fight each other for the privilege of becoming top kook. In any case, the changing of the...

Politics Never Changes
by Maynard on September 24, 2010Maynard dredges up yesteryear’s political cartoons It’s not just politics. At a fundamental level, nothing ever changes. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. — Ecclesiastes 1:9 I guess it’s slightly reassuring that none of our problems are new. Although it’s pretty sad that we seem incapable of learning. Or we learn and then we forget. Ignorance is a renewable resource. Here’s a political cartoon from the Great Depression. Franklin Roosevelt’s “New Deal” may have been necessary for psychological purposes, but it certainly didn’t solve the fundamental economic crisis. Here’s the comment of a contemporary pundit. Note...

Tammy Schedule Update
by Tammy on September 23, 2010Here’s an update on the plans for the next few days. I am leaving very early in the morning for New York, so Tammy Radio Friday will be a “Best Of.” I will try to send out a “Special Report” tomorrow night from NY, but it depends on how everything goes, when I get into town, and other circumstances. Saturday is busy as you might imagine, and the Ann Coulter party is that night, so the regular Friday “Palin Report” will be posted on Sunday, as will the usual “Weekend Update.” With so much going on all the reports will be fun, I can tell you that much :) We’re working on a few treats as well, so stick with...
