OMG, Tammy! Your paralleling of the late ’70s Ronald Reagan’s moves with what Sarah Palin is doing today, is sooooo overdue and welcome in the punditry. I’m just a few years older than you, and was just old enough to vote for Ronald Reagan in 1980 — and again in 1984. I was in high school in the late ’70s, and just not aware of what Reagan was doing at that time. But somehow, his actions must have made it through to my conscious mind, because I recall a conversation I had with my sister’s husband in 1978. He was making fun of Jimmy Carter as President, and that Americans elected a joke. (My brother-in-law is German.) I just looked at him, and told him that I didn’t care for Jimmy Carter, but I really liked what I was hearing from Ronald Reagan. He roared with disdain, called Reagan a dimwitted actor, and thought I was a stupid teenager for liking Ronald Reagan. 30 years later, the joke is on him.
But, history indeed does repeat itself. These smug liberals and Europeans are making fun of Sarah Palin the same way I recall my brother-in-law making fun of Ronald Reagan. Sarah is building a coalition of conservatives, libertarians, and Republicans just the same way Ronald Reagan did.
Thank you so much for highlighting this.

P.S. See you in Chicago, in November!
Tammy, thank you so much for reading my post on the air! I’ve never had anything I’ve written quoted before. You should have seen the chat — I was typing, “OMG, Tammy’s reading my post!” I was getting all kinds of shout-outs from other TAMs. It was really fun.
See ya in Chi-town!
