Clooney, 2010 Best in Show

With the exception of his name, looks like a fine pup. Also, this is the first year that part of Sydney’s mix–the Leonburger— was included in the show. I must say people better stop naming their dogs after celebrities. The winner of the herding group was Beyonce, a 3-year-old female Australian Shepherd. That’s just plain freaking wrong.

Clooney, an Irish Setter, Captures Best in Show at 2010 National Dog Show

In Thursday’s National Dog Show competition, a Boxer named Scarlett had impressive credentials, but it was Clooney, an Irish Setter, who won Best in Show.

Clooney and his handler, Peter Kubacz, summed up the day’s events with an interview at the end of the dog show. When Kubacz was asked if Clooney knew he was the top dog, Clooney nodded yes with the enthusiasm of a true winner.

Six new dog breeds were among the breeds showcased in this year’s National Dog Show. New breeds are recognized by the American Kennel Club when the breed has a good following spread across the country with a parent club to oversee them. The six new breeds introduced this year were the Boykin Spaniel in the sporting group, the Cane Corso and the Leonberger in the working group, the Bluetick Coonhound and Redbone Coonhound in the hound group and the Icelandic Sheepdog in the herding group.

Sydney Bruce, Winner of All-Time in the Entire Universe Best in Rescue Mix Best Buddies…in Show. Part German Shepherd, Collie and Leonberger. You can see Syd has the mane, a bit of the build, and the snout of the Leonberger.

A Purebred Leonberger, finally included in the Dog Show, known as a loving, sweet gentle giant. A little slow on the mental agility, but the love makes up for it.

Wow…cool dogs! I can’t wait until the AKC recognizes the Bracco Italiano…they’re a really cool dog from Italy. They have a head just like my beloved basset hounds, but longer legs. Google is your friend.

a schizoid celtic ginger won? oh dear…

it says the leonberger is suppose to be ‘ insensitive to noise’, syd… and i see nothing about squirrels. how do you feel about cattle herding and mountain climbing?

now that i look at her, my siberian cat sort of looks like a leonberger crossed with at teddy bear.

Your menagerie sounds so intriguing, thierry! And I have NEVER known a sane Irish Setter; they were over-bred during the height of their popularity (60s/70s — like the one down the block from me that bit 3 peeps I know of) and I don’t think they recovered. Iams breed guide agrees w/ us 🙂 http://snipurl.com/1j8mob

Siberian cat? gotta look that up 😉
I used to like Siamese until they bred that into an anorexic, pinched-triangle-faced freak — poor things. :-0 We favor tuxedos here — if they DON’T shred my furniture – ARG! …but my dog is a cool Lab mix (dog lover)

yeah. i have never known an irish setter that wasn’t a ditz or an outright nut. those gingers- canine, feline, or human- they’re Trouble!

but with the pure breed animals its always the years of inbreeding that causes the problems- i think setters are prone to hip dysplasia too.

the siberian is related to the maine coon cat and the norwegian forest cat. they’re big dog like cats- but gentle giants. i had a male maine coon that even people who weren’t much fond of cats loved- they have fantastic personalities. my girl, the lady chablis, is a giant docile fluffy brindle colored ottoman languidly roaming through the house. she begs like a dog and never gets upset about anything. it’s actually quite calming being around her- she definitely has some zen going on.

i have a black siamese which i guess is officially called an ‘ oriental’. she looks exactly like the ‘ pinched faced freak’ variety of siamese( the not overly bred ones, like back in thailand, are called ‘ apple head’. they have bigger bodies, round heads and don’t look like strung out asian super models.). she’s completely insane. but she just loves humans and is very affectionate. she’s not so fond of other cats though.

i’ve always loved the tuxedo cats- the black and white ones. one of my family members insists that tuxedo cats ‘ came over on the Mayflower’ but i am unsure where he got this. i am fond of the terrier type dogs but that schipperke dog looks really cute.
