This Clapper story brought a couple different thoughts to mind:
1. If Clapper isn’t watching the news, then what the heck is he doing? Playing the new World of Warcraft expansion? It’s fun and all, but I think keeping an eye on the media would be a bit more pertinent to his job. (And if Brennan wants to make the “He gets it from other sources” argument, then I would like to point him to:
2. More importantly, what does this tell us about how far our relationship with England has fallen? Shouldn’t our head of intelligence be getting info directly from the British government? Did they tell Clapper? If they did, did he forget about it/not read the memo? Or perhaps they told someone a bite or two down the food chain, knowing that the recipient of that info would be the best person for it — if this is the case, then what the hell are we paying Clapper for? But maybe also the British didn’t tell us at all, which would indicate such a profound contempt for the American government by the British that we haven’t seen since, oh, King George — only this time I fear it would be justified.
Whatever way you slice it, the fact that he didn’t know this is confirmation of the utter ineptitude of the Obama administration in regard to anything that doesn’t involve trying to “put America in her place.” No way Clapper could be that in the dark without gross incompetence on both Clapper’s part and other top-level officials surrounding him, up to and including the boob who appointed him.
I’m afraid this is the first step toward controlling how we communicate. I feel like we are in the beginning stages of the Soviet Union where the governernment listened in to all of our communications to ferret out those who disagreed with the leaders. I think we should all be afraid for our futre. Obama and his minions could not control us through the elections, so he will control us through our media access.
