Gotta loudly disagree with Tammy on this point. If Natalie Portman wins an award for Black Swan, I’m going to mail the Academy a dead skunk. This is not because Portman did a poor job. She did just fine. But Nina is not a role for which anyone should ever get an acting award. I want to see awards given for depth and nuances and detailed performances. This role is a caricature. It pummels us with every hackneyed cliché about repression and indulgence. That’s the director’s fault, because that’s the movie he made. He beats the audience to death with a sledgehammer. The only award an actor could get for this, and I suppose Portman has earned it, is a Purple Heart.

I agree. While a good movie, BLACK SWAN is ridiculously overrated, as are most of this year’s nominees. (I’m rooting for 127 HOURS, because my little brother worked on that film.) All in all, however, it’s hard to take the Oscars seriously anymore, since THE BOOK OF ELI–easily the best and most moving flick of 2010–was completely overlooked.

Why I like this Weekend Update:
    Let me count the ways:
    1) ‘justa girl sitting here in LA'(funny, major understatement)
    2) ‘urkel and merkle'(now tammy can rap)
    3) ‘fun house mirror'(stolen reference)
    4) calling Hillary a ‘stupid cow’ 3 times in a row(no stretch there)
    5) ‘thing 1 and thing 2′(space monsters?)
    6) ‘dog that is iron'(why not?)
    7) ‘blah-blah-blah disease’
*) ‘dna scanning ‘for the children”-genetic patdowns.

The invigorating streams of consciousness verbal riffing requires you to
actively listen, so I took notes.

How about a TAM Board Game?

dennisl59… on your point 4.. Hillary is a ‘stupid cow’ 3 times. I am shocked and dismayed Tammy referred to Hillary as a ‘Stupid Cow’ ONLY three times. I may have to send her an e-mail demanding a minimum requirement of 5 times when a Hillary story is mentioned with at least 3 ‘Her Royal Thighness’ references thrown in for good measure.

Just saying…. can never have enough negative comments about the Clintons

STUPID COW!…my favorite TAM -ism. “Interweb tubes” … a close second.

Finally finished reading “America by Heart” this Iron Dog weekend….proud of you Todd and Eric. In the concluding chapter, Sarah’s reference to Reagan gave me joy and comfort; now paraphasing, “the single greatest reason we love and admire Reagan is because he loved and admired us”. And “what makes citizens of this great country Americans is not blood, race or creed, but HEART’!! Proud of you too Sarah!

    From the CDC:

Why are people born before 1957 exempt from receiving MMR vaccine?

People born before 1957 lived through several years of epidemic measles before the first measles vaccine was licensed. As a result, these people are very likely to have had the measles disease. Surveys suggest that 95% to 98% of those born before 1957 are immune to measles. Note: The “1957 rule” applies only to measles and mumps—it does NOT apply to rubella.

    Interesting.

Love to listen to Tammy on my weekends. She gives me hope and has a genuinely unique sense of humor!

  8. jeaneeinabottle says:

Had rubella and it was awful, my mom gave me ice cream b/c my throat hurt so bad and as soon as I started eating it my nose just gushed with blood all over my ice cream, whaaaaa! Remember it like it was yesterday……I think I was about 4/5 at the time, yikes!!

  9. Crueladev says:

    Great Show!

Who is invited to the Next Obama Party? Maybe he will have a “Tea Party” this time? …perhaps…maybe….uhmmmm …huh…

  10. dennisl59 says:

Ahmadinejad, Chávez, , al-Gaddafi, Mubarak, and Castro have all been invited to the White House for a command performance of their favorite Barbershop Classics. Featuring, “Pardon me (while I sharpen my straight razor)”, “JOOOOOs not welcome’, “This Gun’s Not Loaded(I swear)” and the ever popular, heavy rotation at the White House: “The Anti-American Rag”.

Dressed to the ‘9s’ in their best outfits. Straw hats, canes, spats, and of course, the spiffy Red Striped Jackets.

Unable to attend: Kim Jong-il, but he’s has a live video ‘shout out to his homees’ and Osama bin Laden: just a glamour shot with a translated profane rant about The Oscars, The Grammys, The Golden Globes, the MTV Music Video Awards, Lady Gaga and his crappy ISP.
