Lara Logan: It is never ever okay to revel in the rape of another human being. Debbie Schlussel’s comments “it bothers me not a lick when mainstream reporters get a taste of how peaceful Islam is” and “So sad, too bad, Lara. Thank God for the brave WOMEN and the soldiers who rescued Logan from her attackers. It was fortunate the soldiers even intervened. According to Greg Palkot, during the severe beating of himself and his cameraman, the soldiers present just stood by and did absolutely nothing. If you haven’t seen this, VERY interesting. And–something is seriously wrong with Debbie Schlussel and all those who made remarkably vile comments regarding Logan’s attack. Incredible.
I found this in the LA Weekly blog, by Simone Wilson (I’m thinking perhaps a woman wrote this, though I find that a bit hard to believe):
I think this reporter is guilty of confusing rape with sex. Throughout, the story mixes an accurate account of Logan’s assault with sexually suggestive language and prose, implying, at least to me, that Logan traded in her sexuality, so she was asking for it. On one good point she called out another blogger displaying a lascivious attitude towards Logan before she was attacked!
Logan is attractive, yes, but it is not a valid point to go on about at a time like this. It feels inappropriate to me for journalists (or bloggers) to be putting any focus on her sexuality in their story copy on this subject. She was violated in the most brutal way one can imagine. The focus should not be on her, but on her attackers. Who were these people?
These people and whats growing are the evil.
I would never argue that Islam is not evil. It is- obviously. However, nobody gets a pass to revel in the victimization of individuals because of their political views. This is not a “right” or “left” story. It is a HUMAN story. When we lose sight of our humanity, we have become just as vile as those who committed the act. Schlussel has updated her article- continuing to defend her remarks- claiming that her critics are “typical left loons”. Nice try Debbie. I am a conservative and I recognize hatefulness when I see it. You are shameful and in no way represents my views. May God never let you suffer the way Logan has.

Hey Tammy, You are doing all the right things for your blood pressure. I had major surgery in April of 2009 and found out during my stay that i had high blood pressure. I am on meds for it and its under control. Never knew it was high. My mom had high blood pressure so history does play into it.
Debbie Schlussel’s neanderthal and archaic attitude of ‘No one told her to go there…’, giving the impression Lara Logan was ‘asking for it’, fits more in line with the Islamofascists she supposedly detests than anything else. She may as well join a wife-beater’s club in Dearbornistan while she’s at it. Her anti-woman attitude toward Logan, Sarah Palin (who she initially embraced), Brigette Gabriel and Megyn Kelly (to name just a few) displays her own jealousies and insecurities more than anything – how else do you explain her heartless remarks about Logan? That she could be so nonchalant about the savagery suffered by Logan is a testament to her callousness and truly hate-filled heart.
One more thing: scale of attractiveness has absolutely nothing to do with why a woman is assaulted. It’s a sickening power trip within the beast committing this crime exerting control over ANY female. Elderly women in nursing homes have been sexually assaulted. Baby girls are as well (Note I refer to rapists and assaulters of women & children as ‘beasts’; I refuse to assign ‘men’ the blame because a REAL man does not treat women & children like that.)
Makeshifty – I cannot bring myself to read the link w/ the full story you highlighted. Just those two paragraphs alone drew a rage I cannot describe. It says a great deal about the effed-up author’s mindset (perhaps fantasy world?) moreso than Lara Logan, to say the least.
What is it going to take for people to realize how horrific rape is? Just WTF is wrong with people? Women are NEVER the same after such savagery. It rips her life into pieces and makes her question her security, the motives of others, her sense of self & who she trusts. The scars are worn forever in her mind and heart, and yes, sometimes physical scars as well. Nothing can make the heart of a woman crawl away more – or forever – than being blamed for the brutal crime perpetrated against her. It is my prayer that Logan gets the help she needs to emerge as someone who overcomes this horror & can help others. This is a case where living (not retreating into silence) becomes the best revenge.
Those blaming or making light of Logan – like Schlussel – may as well be part of the jihadist movement if they are going to blame the woman who is assaulted and raped. How is what they have done & said any different? Maybe that’s what we need to do – change the focus of the message so that anyone blaming women for being attacked and violated can be associated as an Islamophuck.

My 45 year old brother-in-law had a stroke last year. He made a full recovery, after a week long hospitalization and months of therapy. He had every possible test done to identify a cause, and none was ever found. But it was a full blown stroke, he was unable to move the right side of his body, could not speak, had a facial droop on the right; he collapsed in the shower and was found there by his wife. He has perfect health, has never had a surgery, never had a broken bone, is physically in good condition, takes no medication — but still had a stroke. It’s a mystery.
The Westminster dog show final last night was just great! I happened to land on the channel while flicking around and couldn’t leave! The dogs are so regal, so obedient and just beautiful. And such wide variety! I get the sense they know how special they are, and they realize they’re at a competition with other special dogs, and really seem to enjoy the adulation and applause from the crowd. And the winner — a Scottish Deerhound! Completely beautiful in it’s gangly, almost homely aquiline appearance! I look forward to next year’s competition now for sure.
