Tammy tweeted a link to this interesting article about Scientology from the Rolling Stone, “Inside Scientology”.

I’ve been curious about Scientology in an abstract sort of way, although I figure I’m too independent and disagreeable to ever get close to an organization like that. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they teach, in effect, some self-help techniques that are useful or even vital for people that fit within their framework. Not sure how I could regard them as a church, though. Some of their street recruiters can be pretty obnoxious; one of them got mad at me when, in an attempt to end his harangue, I said, “Oh, yeah, now I remember; you’re the people who study Diuretics.”

The history I’ve read would make L. Ron Hubbard a seriously unethical man. He effectively stole the savings of early rocket scientist Jack Parsons in a scam after WWII. Parsons was a bit kooky; he was inclined to the occult and followed Aleister Crowley, and some have suggested that Scientology is something of an Americanized version of Crowley’s cult. Of course, the official Scientology history tells a different version of the interactions between Hubbard and Parsons. It’s a long and tangled tale, so I’ll skip the details.

Maynard, They do more brainwashing than self-help. They got my EX brother-in-law. He maxed out about 10 credit cards giving them money for all their programs to get him to a point where he was “clear.” He started second-guessing his marriage and, ultimately, it led to the end of their marriage. My sister and he divorced. They moved out of the house they had been renting from my parents. I moved in, and until the day we sold that property, I was hounded by Scientologists trying to track down my Bro-in-Law.

It is about time we tell those leaders to go to hell, with special emphasis on Obama.

First, O’dumber was Lincoln and then Roosevelt. Now he’s Reagan? And the 2012 elections will show he is more like Carter!
