I’ve got Anthem insurance; I think Tammy has a similar policy. I just got notice of my second big premium increase since Obamacare was signed into law. Both notices of increase cited the new law as a factor. I’m now paying almost 50% more than before the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” was passed. The coverage of the policy is also reduced. This is insane. I don’t know what to say.
Tammy, did you get a premium hike/coverage reduction notice too?
The rest of the country is finding out what RomneyCare is like!
All you have to do, Maynard, is appeal the increase and ask what other policies are available that are similar. The appeal opens the door to switching policies before the yearly date established in your policy. Usually, you can get the same coverage as the policy you had before, with a slightly higher deductible and lower monthly premiums. Do a differential between the monthly premium and the deductible (divided by 12 for each month) and you will find, in the end, that by year it all washes out. The only caveat is if you have a chronic illness. When we did changed policies (Aug. 2010), we actually saved about half of our yearly health care costs by joining a policy that had a larger pool to draw from (lower monthly premiums), with a slightly (I think 10%) increase in deductible.
It varies from state to state.. BCBS of Virginia may be different than BCBS of Maynardland.
Of course, talk to a policy broker in your state. They can be very helpful in finding what works best for you
Cowbell, mine is an HSA plan, so I don’t have options without quitting the HSA program…which I suppose is an option, although the HSA already has a substantially high deductible, so there’s probably not much room for improvement. The letter from Anthem cites Obamacare’s cost-shifting of uninsured and Medicare and Medicaid from the public to the private sector. So this is part of that redistribution thing…shoving everyone’s tax bill on the middle class tab…this after already taking our Medicare taxes and declaring it wasn’t enough. You can see why they need to compel us to buy this stuff under force of law. I see no escape, unless I change my life orientation from the guy that fills the trough to the guy that feeds at it. Which I’m still too stubborn or stupid to do.
Bummer.. I would still consult an Independent Professional Insurance Agent.
Tammy hit on an excellent point today. I was born in 1980 and am 30 years old. My mother still talks about how terribly bad things were for the country — and our family — when Jimmy Carter was president. I don’t remember it though and neither do my friends. My generation has NEVER known true economic hardship — ever. Anyone 33 or younger has never known sacrifice, tribulation, and financial uncertainty (for an extended period of time). Now it’s time to pay the piper.
I know it is never wise to count your chicks before they’re hatched, but the independents who took a chance on this president are going to kick Barry and Michelle Antoinette to the curb. Even if the GOP nominated John McCain to run again — DO NOT give the GOP any ideas because they just might try to run McCain again — I think McCain could beat Obama this time. I’ll shut up now because the GOP just may try to run John McCain one more time. I don’t want to give them any ideas.
I think Sarah Palin could win and she’s my ideal candidate. I hear true conviction when she discusses her principles and beliefs. We need someone who won’t sway whenever the wind blows. That’s what I see from Romney. I see a decent, honest man and a good father, but I hear no genuinely righteous anger in his voice as Obama runs the country — not into the ditch — but off a cliff. I see no passion. The only time I ever saw Mitt get upset was during a GOP debate when he was asked a question about the Confederate Flag and what he thought of people who fly it — he became genuinely irritated and perturbed. It wasn’t fake and rehearsed. It was from the gut. I’ve never an example of it since, but I liked it.
Tammy, if you happen to read this I like paying $5 monthly for your radio show and not having to suffer through commercials. I’d rather have you on my satellite radio, but podcast is good for now.
I’d love to see Lynne Cheney or Liz Cheney on the national scene. America needs a Thatcher.
Obama will choose Hillary Clinton for his VP. It is his only chance of energizing his base and getting reelected. Astute observation. Intrade.com has Biden at 82% of being the VP nominee in 2012 and Clinton at 8%. Any free marketeers on here want to make some money? Sell Biden short on intrade.com
Hillary is a burn-out. Obama kept her quiet since she took office. I don’t believe she could energize the bunny if he had new batteries. I hope he does pick her…I would love to see her stumble on stage looking like she was just in a bar fight! I am sorry..but there is something wrong with her. She has lost her passion and fire. It has taken it’s toll!
