Maynard’s Movie Note: The Beaver
by Maynard on May 17, 2011I don’t think I’m giving anything away in saying that Jodie Foster’s “The Beaver” is a tale of a man with “issues”. This is the sort of film that inherently interests me (Maynard), assuming it’s done well. Say what you will about his real-life problems; Mel Gibson is a genius, and he’s the perfect actor for this role because he understands the character inside and out. And Jodie Foster, too, has an eye for misfits; she’s sympathetic but not overly sentimental, and has a deft sense of the irony and quirky humor of this situation. If you’ve got a soft spot for offbeat drama, you might want to catch this one. It’s quite good, although I’d say it falls short...

A Special Public Tammy Instructional Podcast on Podcast Access
by Tammy on May 16, 2011Okay all TAMs, with all the activity surrounding iTunes I thought a podcast with me explaining it might help. Or, of course, it could make things worse, but I’ll try. This podcast is public because we have made access changes to allow the iTunes feed to continue, at least for now. Listen to the podcast for more. Here are links you may need and that I refer to. See the background for this in the last post “We’re Tweaking the iTunes Feed.” If you are not a TAM and do not get the premium material, you don’t have to be concerned with any of this. Thanks :) To now access podcasts here at the site: 1) Sign into TAM in...

We’re Tweaking the iTunes Feed
by Tammy on May 16, 2011UPDATE 2:Hey, we have a problem due to popularity, and I’m not complaining, but really, it’s come to our attention that the podcasts, each day, are being downloaded *thousands* more times than they should be. So that we have found what we think is a compromise considering how many of you were disappointed with my initial decision to stop the iTunes feed, but in order to have the extra security we are implementing an extra WordPress layer which requires you to be sign into WordPress as well as TAM, just like with chat. This change now also affects those of you who don;t use iTunes as you will now need to be signed into WP here at the blog as...

Closing The Barnes Door On Privacy Rights
by Pat_S on May 16, 2011Oh, by the way, the Indiana Supreme Court decided to toss out the common-law right to resist unlawful police entry of a person’s home. The majority ruled resisting unlawful police entry into a house was against public policy and incompatible with modern Fourth Amendment jurisprudence. How did this come about? Robert Barnes was arguing with his wife Mary while he was moving out of their apartment. Mary tried calling her sister, but Robert threw the phone against the wall. Mary then used her cell phone to call 911. She told the police her husband was throwing things around but he had not struck her. The police arrived, identified Robert Barnes in the parking lot and began questioning him. Robert raised...

Maynard opines (and please forgive him this bit of nonsense): Tammy’s quest for the audio track that best evokes the aura of large domesticated ungulates (specifically the most prominent of the Bovinae; viz. the ubiquitous Bos) brings to mind that ancient philosophical tribute to animal husbandry, “Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict”. Perhaps the time has come to share this treasure with the next generation? I’m not sure if this example is representative...

Yes, I told You So. Trump Not Running
by Tammy on May 16, 2011I know a few of you liked the idea of him running, but I’m glad he’s chosen not to, and announced that fact relatively early. As I’ve mentioned on the show, I think his use of the eff word over and over again at that Republican event in Las Vegas was the tipping point of his undoing. He saw the poll reaction and acted accordingly. The general reaction to him, though, and his style is really a testament to how hungry we are for someone on the scene who ‘tells it like it is.’ I do think we can find someone like that who does so but with class and dignity, who hasn’t given $50,000 to Rahm Emanuel and is...

A Restless, Rainy Night
by Artgal on May 15, 2011As much as I am interested in politics, various issues and world events, my first love is truly in The Arts. Art keeps me sane. Whenever I work on a project, nothing else exists in those moments. It is a nice resort from the daily assault occurring by this administration and all the weirdness in the world. Lately, I have been focusing a great deal on painting and drawing. Most of my drawings are in pastels, graphite or charcoal, and my paintings are largely done in acrylic or oils. There are other areas of the artworld where I create, too, but drawing and painting have taken priority for now. It has become a nice way to escape for a little while. So last weekend when...
