Background: The World Bank, IMF, Lagarde & Clinton
by Tammy on June 9, 2011Both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have been in the news lately. Most, most recently just today–there are reports Hillary Clinton wants to be the president of the World Bank. And, of course, over the past several week’s we’ve been dealing with the alleged rape of a hotel maid by now former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn. There’s lots of talk of the personalities, but not very much about what these organizations do and how they differ. Now with talk of two women potentially heading up the organizations, let’s get some background. From the IMF site, please click through but here’s a snippet: The IMF and the World Bank, How Do They Differ? Known collectively as...

‘The Nation’: Time Is Running Out On Obama Presidency
by Pat_S on June 9, 2011The hard left is getting worried that Obama may be a one-term president. Only Obama can save himself they say, he just has to realize it. A ‘galaxy of progressives’ are mobilizing to deliver the wake-up call. Hope and change is now we hope he’ll change. They acknowledge Obama’s plans have failed to bring about economic recovery. He should stop claiming things are better than they really are. They don’t think it’s in his character but they will prod the Prez to come down hard on the vicious Republicans. Progressive activists are urged to ‘warn’ Obama that they are ‘discontented’. Subtlety is not part of the plan. Obama: You’re Your Only Hope Barack Obama is trapped in ominous economic circumstances,...

Your History Fix for the Day
by Tammy on June 8, 2011Ancient War Revealed in Discovery of Incan Fortresses Incan fortresses built some 500 years ago have been discovered along an extinct volcano in northern Ecuador, revealing evidence of a war fought by the Inca just before the Spanish conquistadors arrived in the Andes. “We’re seeing evidence for a pre-Columbian frontier, or borderline, that we think existed between Inca fortresses and Ecuadorian people’s fortresses,” project director Samuel Connell, of Foothill College in California, told LiveScience. The team has identified what they think are 20 fortresses built by the Inca and two forts that were built by a people from Ecuador known as the Cayambe. The volcano is called Pambamarca. Landmark Hitler letter on Jews unveiled in New York A letter by...

Andrew Breitbart Catches Another One
by Tammy on June 7, 2011It’s Bad Guy Weiner everywhere we look, but the real story is Good Guy Andrew Breitbart (again) and how the interwebtubes allow said Good Guys to prevail. The Lamestream Media is now going to have a hard time ignoring or dismissing Andrew–he has used the web to take down a variety of hypocritical or corrupt liberal footsoldiers–including ACORN, Vivian Schiller of NPR (who, btw, was hired a few days ago by NBC), Helen Thomas, and now Weiner. CNN has (no doubt begrudgingly) done a piece on Andrew referring to him as a “gadfly.” Heh. Some gadfly. We all owe a big Thank You to Andrew for being out there and willing to get in the left’s ugly face. Perhaps it’s...

International Yarn Bombing Day June 11
by Pat_S on June 7, 2011Depending on your point of view it is either another form of art or another form of vandalism. It has the world in stitches. Instead of chalk or paint, public objects—fences, statues, mail boxes, etc.—are covered with yarn. The fiber artists as they are called even improve on nature with tree cozies. It isn’t just for hippie grandmas. June 11 is the First International Yarn Bombing Day. Yarn bombing: Graffiti’s cozy, feminine side The bronze statue of Rocky near the Philadelphia Museum of Art irked Jessie Hemmons. She found the statue too big, too macho and too touristy, so last month Hemmons, a 24-year-old artist, bombed him. With pinkish yarn. “Street art and graffiti are usually so male dominated,” Hemmons...
