Here are a few of the political stories I’ll be chewing on during Tammy Radio Live. What’s on your mind as we start another lovely week of saving the world and kicking liberal (D & R) patooty? 😉 First, let’s start with this:
CSM: Why you should stop calling today Presidents’ Day
True, many refer to today’s national day off as Presidents’ Day, but federal law actually lists the holiday as Washington’s Birthday…Yes, there is a federal day off on Feb. 20, 2012. But its official name is “Washington’s Birthday.” We’re supposed to celebrate the life and legacy of the Father of Our Country, not the rest of those Mount Rushmore guys. They can get their own holiday. Thomas Jefferson, we’re looking at you.
Five facts you didn’t know about George Washington
PPP: Michigan GOP race tightens<
The Republican race for President in Michigan has tightened considerably over the last week, with what was a 15 point lead for Rick Santorum down to 4. He leads with 37% to 33% for Mitt Romney, 15% for Ron Paul, and 10% for Newt Gingrich.
WaPo: Gingrich archives show his public praise, private criticism of Reagan
In an unnoticed 1992 speech, Newt Gingrich in a single utterance took aim not only at a beloved conservative icon but also at a core tenet of the conservative movement: that government must be limited.
Ronald Reagan’s “weakness,” Gingrich told the National Academy of Public Administration in Atlanta, was that “he didn’t think government mattered. . . . The Reagan failure was to grossly undervalue the centrality of government as the organizing mechanism for reinforcing societal behavior.”
Washington Times: Michelle’s ski trip marks 16 Obama vacations
First lady Michelle Obama’s weekend jaunt to Aspen, Colorado for a President’s Day ski holiday with her daughters Sasha and Malia makes the 16th time members of the first family have gone on extended vacations during their three years in office.
Their stay at the home of a major Chicago fundraiser for President Obama makes the fifth time the first lady and her daughters have taken a break from Washington on their own. Only once has Obama had a long weekend out of town and alone, celebrating his 49th birthday in Chicago in August 2010.
Speaking as a Virginian, living in Texas, I am still miffed that there’s a combined
“President’s Day”. But given that most of the people living in the Washington Metro Area work for the Federal Government, it’s not surprising at all, that a Three Day Holiday was instituted for them years ago. Besides, it give them somewhere to go to spend the huge salaries they’re making, right?

Happy ‘Washington’s Birthday’ to all my fellow TAMs!!! Wish I had the day off, but I don’t fall into one of the privileged groups… 😉
What? No link to the “Lost Weekend” story? Oh wait….if its a “Lost Weekend” would there even be a link? Hmmmm….its a poser! 😀 LOL!
Now for my “Fun” fact on President Washington’s birthday….actually he was born on February 11, 1731 according to the “Old Style” calendar aka the Julian calendar England used at the time of his birth! In 1752 England corrected its calendar to the “Modern” calendar aka the Gregorian calendar which moved his birthday to February 22, 1732! I also wanted to wish President Lincoln a belated Happy Birthday since he now no longer has his birthday honored like he did when I was a kid in school! Ahhhhh….those were the days when a President’s birthday was special!
Tammy said patooty…:)
Yeah, and that’s just what we’ve gotta start kicking!
Happy Birthday, President George Washington & President Abraham Lincoln. We are grateful.
Happy President’s Day to all the others EXCEPT for the presidents who lied, cheated on their wives, were/are:) progressive/socialist/communist, whose foreign/domestic policies or lack thereof, put our country and its citizens in danger, or contributed towards running this country into the ground in ANY WAY!!!!!! No birthday wishes for you!!!!!!
Oorahhh, well said Trish S.
I remember growing up and not going to school in Washington’s birthday. Lincoln’s birthday, while celebrated, was not a day off if I recall correctly.

Ahhhh, I long for the days when being a public servant meant something. Very few fall in that category now. Career politicians are now the norm.
it’s really sad & outrageous that so many lies have been told by the left to disgrace this man’s reputation & seperate us from him. if we had just one quarter of the town named after him, filled with people like him, we’d be in much better shape than we are rite now i think
Thinking about getting a bigger basement. NASA captures earth size tornado with winds of 300,000mph on the surface of the sun.

Thanks Tammy for the 5 facts about George Washington. George was one tough dude! Amazing. When I was a kid, we had Lincoln’s B-Day & Washington’s (and my moms) B-Day. Too many holiday’s for the FEDS for sure now, & not enough for the hard working folks. Our country has been changing & if it is going to change…let it be us who change it. Change our country from what it is now!! Obama has weakened our security now and THAT has to be top priority.
The Obama vacations will just continue until doomsday. It is a given. They are laughing all the way.
A sting on America. Okay that was in my craw. Good night. 🙂
