Rove is not pleasant to look at but I like the smirk during this segment. It tells me that he knows the internals are pretty good for Romney.
Peggy Noonan’s latest post: “Once More, With Meaning”. She’s noting that Romney has done well lately letting Obama make a fool of himself, and he’s gathering momentum. But that can’t go on forever. She’s looking for Romney to start to shift gears…
Noonan often returns to her quest — and I applaud her for this — for adult leadership and adult dialogue. Her theory is the nation is sick of the dumbed-down pabulum and slogans and talking points. Will anyone treat the voters with respect?
I’d like to think Noonan is correct; that there is still a market for a political dialogue that transcends baby talk and shiny objects and bags of goodies. We’ll see. Anyway, that’s her advice.
I can’t go along with Noonan on this. Because the sitting President is not running on his record. If BHO was running on his record in a conventional manner saying that this is what I have done and will continue to do or at least this is how I will change direction from what I have done, eg, an implementive vision not a slogan, then I will agree with her. But as it is with the President running on dividing the voters into blocs, I don’t think Romney has to run in the conventional manner of providing a competing implementive vision, just saying look at what he’s done and therefore will continue to do, I will not do that, is appropriate. Mitt doesn’t have to show his cards before the President.
This makes total sense. I feel many uninformed voters simply voted Obama because he was not Bush. Romney has this advantage with Obama in abundance.
Excuse me but Peggy Noonan lost all creditability in the ’08 election. Have not read or listen to her ever since 🙂
Yes, she got it wrong in 2008. She messed up. Are you going to nurse the grudge and rub salt into that wound? Push her, and people who likewise messed up, away from Romney’s support group? If your goal is to make 2012 end up like 2008, then that’s the way to make it happen.
I’d like more people to see things the way I do. But they don’t. I’ve got to live with that, and somehow support something. That means I’ve got to exude good will as I step into Romney’s big tent. Yeah, I won’t get everything I want. But maybe the nation will survive. That’s my goal.
Alternatively, I can stand as a party of one. Which is very pure, but not a good way to win an election.
It is good to decide that you are done listening to a particular person for what ever reason. Maybe for just being wrong, or if you don’t trust their character anymore. I am done with Beck, Ingrahm, Coulter for example. You can get plenty of similar opinion from others without all of their vindictiveness, and ginormous egos seeping into the conversation. I will be one of those who sits out the presidential election unless Romney can convince me he is for reel and not just pulling a centrist BO, BS campaign. I will register and vote for the down ticket. I am not apocalyptic about our future. I know BO is ruining our country at a dangerous pace. I think we will eventually get it right as a country. Romney will have to earn my support. I am done with taking the least worst option, and no amount of name calling or personal attacks from fellow conservatives is going to make a damn bit of difference. It is a good thing that not all of us simply fall in line. But for the majority who do, I respect your decision and reasoning. I know you do it because you love your country more then getting your way, and most anything else.
Someone must carry the torch for idealism. We must never forget the way things ought to be. But, as far as actions go, I seek that elusive sweet spot between idealism and pragmatism.
The destruction of the nation is a very real possibility. We leave our children with no industry, no skills, no moral structure…and a huge pile of debt. They are propelled by a sense of anger, resentment, and narcissism. Oh, yes, there may be a United States. And it will be something like Egypt is today, a once-great power, dominated by depraved, struggling people. America the colonized, struggling to pay the interest on Obama’s debts to our foreign masters.
You’re not going to vote for Romney unless you’re assured that he’ll do the right thing? Guess what? Nobody knows what any of these people are going to do until they get the gig. That’s the troubling reality, and I don’t know what to do about it. Go back and listen to Obama’s 2008 campaign. Much of what he advocated sounded great. I was open to the possibility that he’d end up a great president. He correctly lambasted George Bush for running up the debt; said that running up the debt was unpatriotic, and a burden on the future. Obama ran as an economic centrist. Of course I was skeptical; of course I voted for McCain. But when Obama took the prize, I had hope. That hope lasted about five minutes into Obama’s term, when he made it clear that he thought the solution to our woes was for the Feds to spend as much money as possible as quickly as possible, and then he started on this health care monstrosity.
Obama is certain death. Romney is…well, who knows? Maybe vote for Romney and if he turns into another lemming king, you can call me an idiot.
I think most TAMs carry the torch for idealism but each torch burns differently.
Part of my trouble with Noonan is she writes of an ideal, but the large influential newspapers stopped standing up for idealism some time ago. Not just liberalism equals idealism but in story placement, placement of facts in the story, collusion on memes, denying that hard news stories contain any editorialism opinion writing, etc. Physician Noonan, heal thyself.
Keep your torch high and bright Maynard, it looks good.
Maynard is correct, right now, the only thing that is going to save the country is pragmatism. I believe the “one” is so dangerous that I am disappointed that since a Dem was going to win in 2008, it should have been Hillary. I know she doesn’t dispise her country, nor is she a hard core socialist, although she may have those tendencies. Obama will destroy this country with 4 more years…of that, I am convinced.
If Time and the other media shills are going after Romney for stressing the economy, then Romney is on the right track, no matter what Noonan says. I seem to recall she had a leg tingle after she crucified Sarah back in 2008. How’s that hopey changey thingy working for you, Peggy?
Right from the get-go, this ‘Map’ is bogus…Texas ‘leaning’ Romney?
You’ve got to be kidding!
El Presidente’ is going to get his girly-man beret handed to him down here by at least 20 points in the General.

If you squint your eyes and look real close, you can make out three peaceful, harmonious, SEPARATE countries. 😉 Each coast should establish a sovereign, separate country of their own, and the rest of us can reduce the size, scope, and spend of our fed gov’t and return to the freedoms and liberties that our founding fathers enjoyed.
News outlets would lose a lot of money if they don’t keep the game close. I think “the map” is much worse news for Obama than anyone is willing to say. It would explain the “runaway train” dynamic we see from Obama as he and Holder move with break-neck speed toward their radical agenda. He is a man with nothing to lose because he’s already lost everything.
A newspaper’s job is to sell ads and it does so by “creating” a need for people to buy the paper to read the latest. A TV news organization does the same thing. They have to keep it “close”.
Remember ’80? Carter was going to win, according to the “learned” fools and idiot of the media.
Living in Missouri, I wouldn’t put this state as a toss-up this year, but rather “lean Romney”. In 2008, MO bucked the national trend and although by a mere 6,000 and some votes, went for McCain/Palin.
St. Louis & KC are now the toss-up areas after being blue for many years, but the rest of the state has most certainly turned an even deeper shade of red.
The Obama bumper stickers around STL County where I live are few and far between. Not that a great deal of Romney stickers are showing up; people are prepared to vote for him, but they’re not going to be cheerleading it seems.
The news that Sen. “Air” Claire McCaskill won’t be going to the Dem convention isn’t a surprise. But, coupled with the lack of ad buys in MO from Obama’s campaign, the writing is splashed all over the wall. MO isn’t a swing state this time around.
