Wow, this is obviously a man to watch. Every day we must look for men and women who are not afraid and Ball seems like he’s one of them. He’s speaking regarding the passage of New York’s new gun control law, pushed by their governor Andrew Cuomo and pulls no punches. (HT to @AdamSBaldwin on Twitter)

The New York Senate on Monday passed the first sweeping new gun measures since the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn., last month. The bill will be taken up by the New York assembly this morning and is expected to pass easily into law.

The bill includes a strict assault weapons ban and will also entail additional restrictions on ammunition and gun sales. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo unveiled the proposal on Monday after weeks of negotiations with lawmakers, and waived the typical three-day waiting period to get the bill passed immediately.

i don’t know why , but i thought ball lost in november..i’m glad he didn’t, but i’d just caution everyone to look at his voting record. is he REALLY a conservative?

  3. Shifra says:

    Bravo, State Senator Ball!

But I would not worry about Gov. Andrew Cuomo becoming POTUS: His New Yawk accent is too thick, and, as Tammy astutely pointed out, it is against the Laws of Nature for an Italian man to be so ugly. And, although it was not his fault, he divorced his Kennedy-wife after she cheated on him with his friend. Sweet… And while his live-in girlfriend, Sandra Lee, is perfectly nice, this is not exactly a portrait of a “perfect” family, and maybe would not play so well in the heartland. Also, Cuomo apparently thinks that shouting at your audience is a good way of scoring points:

I live here in Putnam County, NY… we were the ones who refused to give out gun owners names!.
Greg Ball is our guy here, and OUR SMALL COUNTY,( TOUCHING WESTCHESTER), VOTED 10 POINTS OVER OBAMA… RED!!!.
I am right here in the middle of all this…Greg Ball is the real deal.

Greg Ball needs to be in the US Senate. That is all.

Like in Chicago, when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns! Uh-oh…

Too bad there’s only one of him.

Unexplainably this brought tears to my eyes. The power of “speaking truth to power”. As a sister in law of a shcizophrenic, I know all to well the frustatration of dealing with the bureauacracy of mental illness. They speak of the rights of the mentally ill, but what of the rights of those that love them and can do nothing to help because we are handcuffed by political correctness and “compassion”. Thank you Senator for your powerful words. – cactuswren

This is a man who need to be brought to the national stage. He is exactly the kind of person we need, passionate, strong, not afraid to speak his mind. I think some of the people in Washington can learn from State Senator Ball. Not to mention the fact he is a great speaker. He is arguably a better speaker than the DB, same style without the “uh” “um” “well”. Bravo.

Here is another outspoken NY Republican:

Defiant NY Republican – Assemblyman Steve Katz – ‘There will be more than 7 bullets’ in my wife’s gun

At some point — and some will say we’re now at that point (and some will say we’re long past that point) — we must defend our liberty with acts of civil disobedience. If or when it comes to that, I’d like to see this as an organized act, and not just a brawl or a tantrum. Let the record show that decent, reasonable, productive citizens are being fined, jailed, beaten into submission for no good reason by bullies. At the end of the day, we outnumber the goons they’ll send against us. But we must pick and choose our battles carefully. They will do what they always do, which is call us every filthy name in the book, and accuse us of deserving abuse; it must be made self-evident to all with eyes to see that they are acting as tyrants.

    • SheVee says:

Steve Katz is genuine… Greg Ball not so much.

Ball is my area’s State Senator and I used to be a huge supporter. But over the years, he has promised much and delivered little, especially pertaining to illegal immigration which is what he first ran on. He also lies and visciously attacks anyone who runs against him in the primary. Steve Katz was a recent victim of such treatment by GB. Ball also has some skeletons in his closet; i.e., a former girl friend who filed an order of protection against him.

So before you annoint him the next conservative saviour, Google his name and see what comes up. It can’t ALL be hooey.

At the moment, however, he’s saying & doing all the right things regarding gun control and looks like a hero. But looks can be deceiving.

      • Dave says:

SheVee…. Where do you live? I’m in Carmel, NY.

You don’t have to answer if you’re uncomfortable..

Compared to whats going on in Westchester, (where I am a Tea Party Member, which down there is an uphill fight… they can barely get 30 ppl to a meeting! But thats Westchester!!), and New York City, which between Cuomo and Bloomberg is totally out of control, I’ll take Greg Ball,
yes he’s done some questionable things but, I also thinks he understands the response he’s been getting all week after that speech.

        • SheVee says:

Hey, neighbor — I’m right next door to you in Brewster!

I agree that compared, to other NY politicians, Greg Ball isn’t bad… but that’s a pretty low bar in this navy blue state. He has aspirations for higher office and this could catapult him to a nomination for US Congress. However, with the sketchy stuff in his background, the national Dem machine will rip him to shreds.

Excellent speech. No histrionics like Cuomo, just reasoned facts and a logical argument with a great dig at the governor. At best, all this gun control rhetoric is designed to make politicians who do nothing to solve real problems look like statesmen. At worst, they are trying to disarm the public so they can better oppress us. They depend on an ignorant electorate who are so bereft of rational thought that they continue to believe more gun laws will keep the bad guys from getting and using guns.

  12. midget says:

Am I right in assuming the new law will exact prejudice on anyone who has ever even been depressed? Then buying a weapon in the future one must put on a happy face or be categorized as a nut job. As a New Yorker, I agree with SheVee.

  13. ReardenSteel says:

God bless Greg Ball. Anyone willing to stand in any house or senate chamber and speak the truth without hesitation gets a “Hell Yeah!” from me. Calm, articulate, and RIGHT! I turned 50 this year, and what happened to my country makes me want to cry. The truth is all we have left to save the Republic. Never be afraid to speak it. Never.
