Do we make anything in this country anymore? If they can’t get the guns, they will get the ammo.

Breitbart: Ammo Price Surge Expected As EPA Regulations Close Lead Smelter

Because of heightened EPA regulations, Doe Run Company’s Herculaneum lead smelter in Herculaneum, Missouri—the last U.S. smelter of its kind—is closing its doors on December 31, 2013….

Herculaneum’s product is the type of lead used to make components for traditional lead ammunition, and once the smelter closes, such lead and/or ammunition components will have to be imported into the U.S. Ammunition prices are expected to rise, reflecting import costs….

And of course this is much bigger than ammunition. Think of it: America can no longer produce lead. And we do this for the sake of the environment. But what do we accomplish? Do we stop using lead? No, we just import it instead. So we shut down an industry and fire the workers, and China opens up an industry and hires. And then the pollution comes out of China, which has fewer regulations than we do. Bottom line is the planet ends up in worse shape, the American workers end up in worse shape, the balance of payments ends up in worse shape, national security ends up in worse shape. Can anybody point out any good that comes out of this orgy of self-destruction? And yet we pump our fists in the air and congratulate ourselves on another score for saving the planet. Are we insane?

I suppose. And it might likewise be argued that the elimination of animal feed wouldn’t affect the beef supply. Cutting the choke point would logically be expected to impact downstream supply. I don’t want to depend upon China for batteries any more than I want to depend on China for ammunition.

The gentleman from the NSSF makes a legitimate point about ammunition being made from recycled lead, however, that industrial process too will come into the EPA’s sight picture soon enough. The NSSF should always keep in mind the following phrase: “an important first step”; as in “Banning assault weapons is an important first step towards…” , or”Banning 3D printed weapons is an important first step towards…”

I can’t remember the last time a leftist zealot ever said that their regulations were the solution of a problem.

It might be good to invest in both lead and bismuth.
