faith hope and charity

Recently, this headline, from the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, caught my eye: Christian donors to give more than $1M in crisis aid to Ukraine Jews

And it reminded me of an incident that was related to me by a woman whose teenage son had been in Washington DC, one summer, interning for one of the NY Representatives.

The young man, an Orthodox Jew, was wearing a yarmulke (“skullcap”). Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) noticed the young man in the hallway, and struck up a conversation with him.

They exchanged pleasantries for a few minutes. Then Rangel made the following statement:

“I just don’t understand why you Orthodox Jews all seem to have aligned yourselves with the Christian Right. Don’t you know they hate you?”

Looks like someone needs to talk to ol’ Charlie about psychological projection.

(I guess he must have forgotten how Jerusalem and God were booed at the Dem convention.)

Via JTA:

A charity organization funded by Christians has pledged over $1 million in emergency funding for Ukrainian Jews.

Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, founder of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, made the announcement about the extra funding for Ukraine during a trip he concluded on Thursday to the Eastern European nation.

We’re pledging $10 million and possibly $12-13 million just for the Ukraine this year,” Eckstein told JTA. Normally, he said, his organization spends approximately $8 million annually on aid programs for Ukrainian Jews out of $20-25 million it spends on helping Jewish communities in the entire former Soviet Union….

Extra funding is necessary because “local businessmen who used to match donations from outside Ukraine are no longer able to do this,” Eckstein said. In addition, communities are spending thousands of dollars on security, at the expense of religious and cultural activities.

He explained that the revolution which ousted former president Viktor Yanukovych last month following months of rioting and instability has worsened the economic crisis that existed before the upheaval….

I wonder if the Jews really know how much they are truly loved by Christians. We are so grateful for their heritage and as Gentiles cherish that we are “grafted in” to that heritage by our belief in their son Jesus. The hard thing about Christianity is not parting with money but that we are obligated to love the likes of Charlie Rangel. Blehh.

midget: We need to stop letting the Left get away their hateful/lying/destructive memes, such as Rangel’s repulsive comments, as well as “Republicans hate women” “Conservatives don’t care if poor children die of hunger” etc. etc. Enough is enough!

Shifra, but how to undemonize ? For so many years they have “owned the narrative”, as Tammy says, and now it is a given that we “suck”. Not to be racist, but it seems like we are outnumbered by the Indians at Little Big Horn.

You are right on Midget. God called Israel the “Apple of His Eye,” Zechariah 2:8 and promised to bless those who bless Abraham (Israel). “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed,” Genesis 12:3. I feel blessed simply by hearing of such a wonderful donation to the Ukrainian Jews. We as a nation and as individuals need to continue our support.

In the Ukrainian “government are members of Svoboda, a neo-Nazi group.I know not if any Right Sector Nazis are in power, but the point is I see anti-Jewish attacks as the rule, not the exception. Didn’t Obama know the nature of these monsters before supporting them? Oh wait. He probably did 🙁
