For some inexplicable reason, the Feds have now decided to go after the beer industry.

And even if you are not a big beer drinker, this will negatively impact all of us:

The Feds are proposing to institute new regulations on the “spent grains” (barley, wheat and other grains that are left over after being soaked in hot water) that the breweries sell to farmers, who are able to obtain feed for their livestock at reasonable cost.

Via Fox News: Regulation Nation: Breweries fight back against new government grain rules

….For centuries, brewers have given or sold the leftover grain from the brewing process to local ranchers and dairy farmers for cattle feed. But new regulations proposed by the Food and Drug Administration threaten to end that relationship.

“The whole brewing community was shocked about it,” said Josh Deth, co-owner of Revolution Brewing in Chicago, Ill….

Deth said the regulations would make it far too costly for him to prepare the grains to be passed along to farmers. The only remaining option would be sending it to a landfill, which would cost more than $100,000 a year.

The new Fed regulations would mean higher costs for farmers, who would lose an excellent source of cheap feed for their livestock….

And those higher costs would be passed down to consumers, as higher food prices.

My God! How in the world did we ever get along without the government? An over-reaching, oppressive government helped precipitate the American Revolution. I think we will be seeing more civil disobedience, a la #bundyranch, in the near future. We, the American people, are fed up with this crap!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_Safety_and_Modernization_Act
Following 9/11, Bush got Congress to pass the 2002 Bioterrorism Act which gave the FDA new authority/powers based on, credible evidence. Obama got Congress to pass the Food Safety and Modernization Act in 2010 which greatly expanded FDA authority and changed the basis to, reason to believe. The 2010 vote was a lame duck session vote: Senate by ‘unanimous’ voice vote on Dec. 19 and the House by 215-144 on Dec. 21, 2010. I don’t know the party makeup of the vote, but the House did change hands in Jan. 2011, so might not have passed if not for lame duck session.

Regardless, this article points out that there is an exemption in the FSMA law that should apply here. http://www.forbes.com/sites/wlf/2014/04/17/fdas-proposed-regulation-of-brewers-spent-grains-is-all-wet/
“…FSMA Section 116 exempts activities at facilities which “relate to the manufacturing, processing, packing, or holding of alcoholic beverages.”…”

So a law that was originally meant to deal with terrorist poisoning of food supply, amended to (ostensibly) deal with China poisoning of pet food, is being used to; increase cost of meat, potentially put cattle and pig farmers out of business, make beer more expensive (smoke that pot and take oxycotin), while doing nothing to improve food safety and the activity is exempted in the first place.

I think this is just an Obama attack on the American West. To me, it ties into the Bundy ranch situation. Obama has declared war on the West as a bastion of liberty loving conservatives and he wants to do everything possible to make them subservient to a distant federal master.

I guess you could at least say these liberals are creative…in a diabolical sorta way. I’m still waiting to wake up from this nightmare.

The real target is the cattle producers. Just gotta stop all of that global warming caused by cow flatulence! Not to mention getting rid of all of those cattle grazing on federal lands.
