Crossing out Lies and writing Truth on a blackboard.

With the war raging between Israel and Hamas, there has been a shocking rise of virulent anti-Semitism on American college campuses. Much of this seems to be based on sympathy with the “Palestinian freedom fighters who are resisting the Israeli occupation.”

The following is a must-read by Chloe Valdary, published in Tablet Magazine.

Every word is a gem.

Here are highlights, but do read the entire piece:

To the Students for Justice in Palestine, a Letter From an Angry Black Woman

The student organization Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is prominent on many college campuses, preaching a mantra of “Freeing Palestine.” It masquerades as though it were a civil rights group when it is not. Indeed, as an African-American, I am highly insulted that my people’s legacy is being pilfered for such a repugnant agenda. It is thus high time to expose its agenda and lay bare some of the fallacies they peddle….

• If you support a racist doctrine of Arab supremacism and wish (as a corollary of that doctrine) to destroy the Jewish state, you do not get to claim that the prejudices you peddle are forms of legitimate “resistance.”

• ….If your idea of a righteous cause entails targeting and intimidating Jewish students on campus, arrogating their history of exile-and-return and fashioning it in your own likeness you do not get to claim that you do so in the name of civil liberty and freedom of expression….

• You do not get to champion a system wherein Jews are barred from purchasing land, traveling in certain areas, and living out such an existence merely because they are Jews—and claim that you are promoting equality for all. You do not get to enable that system by pushing a boycott of Jewish owned businesses, shops, and entities—and then claim that you are “against apartheid.” That is evil….

• You do not get to pretend as though you and Rosa Parks would have been great buddies in the 1960s. Rosa Parks was a real Freedom Fighter. Rosa Parks was a Zionist.

Coretta Scott King was a Zionist.

A. Phillip Randolph was a Zionist.

Bayard Rustin was a Zionist.

Count Basie was a Zionist.

Dr. Martin Luther King Sr. was a Zionist….

You see, my people have always been Zionists because my people have always stood for the freedom of the oppressed. So, you most certainly do not get to culturally appropriate my people’s history for your own. You do not have the right to invoke my people’s struggle for your shoddy purposes and you do not get to feign victimhood in our name. You do not have the right to slander my people’s good name and link your cause to that of Dr. King’s. Our two causes are diametrically opposed to each other….

Ms. Valdary, if only you could get that excellent point across to Obama. (And don’t forget Sammy Davis Jr.) Well done.

  2. TigerAim says:

    Most excellent piece indeed!

  3. Maynard says:

I understand the men of good will may differ, but I throw up my hands at the Twilight Zone divergence of universes. It’s impossible to have a rational discussion.

As a supposedly-rational human being, I am convinced that the phenomenon of anti-Semitism is fundamentally supernatural. There is no possible rational explanation for why the Jews are so pervasively hated, across so many cultures and eons, accused of so many conflicting crimes. Jews caused the evils of communism, Jews caused the evils of capitalism, Jews are peaceniks, Jews are warmongers, Jews don’t belong with us, Jews don’t belong in their homeland…It never ends, and it never makes any sense, except in the most superficial way. (This is not to say that Jews or Israel is above criticism…you know what I mean.)

Our Judeo-Christian tradition would have it that God set Abraham and his descendents and followers on a path that would bring light to the world. Anti-Semitism is the most fundamental manifestation of a world in rebellion against God. For anyone that doesn’t think this is what we’re seeing (I mean in the big picture, not in this incident or that incident)…well, how would you explain it? You can’t.

  4. Squirrel says:

Excellent smack down. Like Maynard states above, I do not understand the hatred for the Jews.

I am hoping that in 2016, we elect a President that has Israel’s back.

  5. Maynard says:

On a related note, this WaPo editorial makes the point that John Kerry is a step down from Hillary Clinton, and that’s saying something. “The one thing everyone in Israel seems to agree on: John Kerry blew it”.

…The Jerusalem Post’s Herb Keinon noted that Kerry’s ability to unite Israelis was really what was quite remarkable:

It takes a certain artistry to irritate and annoy not only the Israeli left and the Israeli right at the same time, but also both Jerusalem and Ramallah.

US Secretary of State John Kerry has found that artistry.

And there’s also Krauthammer’s article, “Clueless in Gaza”.

  6. Dave says:

Maynard you are correct, anti-Semitism is without a doubt, supernatural.

  7. […] Chloé has  a brilliant and devastating piece in Tablet, which decries the misuse and distortions of the real, historical racism experienced by blacks in this country by pro-Palestinian student groups (via Tammy Bruce). […]

  8. Foreverautumn says:

Most of the 1st-century Christians were Jews, all of the original apostles and disciples were Jews, the apostle Paul was a Jew, and Christ Himself was a Jew. The New Testament makes no coherent sense without the Old Testament (for which we have Judaism to thank). Without Judaism, there would BE no Christianity. Anti-Semitism makes no sense. But then again, we ARE talking about intellectual snobs and liberals who FEEL a lot more than they think.

Thanks for an excellent post, Shifra. Brava, Chloe Valdary who presents the clearest framework in this article for why Blacks should support Israel. In addition, here is a Pro-Israel video from Ms. Valdary.

The “supernatural” hatred of the Jewish people (as Maynard suggests, and I agree) can’t be explained rationally, although we do know why it exists. Tammy tells us all the time, its jealousy. A supernatural jealousy. After all, the Jews are God’s chosen people.

Good article. The more voices for truth and freedom the better.

Anne Frank was captured by the Nazis, 70 years ago, Aug. 4, 1944. She would be 85 today. Her family hid to avoid being taken. Hamas builds tunnels to enable kidnapping. http://www.strategyinformer.com/member/15924/blog/14621

Good article & good comments. It is the age old struggle between good & evil, but we know who wins in the end.
