Joe Biden (who was the Delaware Senator for 36 years) wonders why anyone would want to do business in Delaware.

And we wonder how such a doofus ends up as VP of the U.S.

Via Weekly Standard: Biden: ‘Why Would a Business Go’ to Delaware?

Vice President Joe Biden inadvertently may have produced the worst public service announcement for a state since Maryland’s Governor William Donald Schaefer referred to the Eastern Shore of his state as the “[outhouse]” of Maryland. Biden recently recorded a White House White Board video to boost the president’s latest plan to spend billions on those ubiquitous “crumbling roads and bridges.” To provide an example, Biden turned his sights on his home state, the “little state of Delaware”:

….Take a look at my little state of Delaware. I’m very proud of Delaware because I know it so well having represented it for so long. There are 6,357 miles of public roads in the state of Delaware. Sixteen percent of them are in poor condition. How does that little state compete? Why would a business go, why would an enterprise get engaged in a place where there wasn’t sufficient rail, or the roads weren’t good, where the bridges were in disrepair? Businesses go where they can increase productivity….

Joe is right that businesses go where they can increase productivity. Two basic ways to increase productivity; increase production at same cost or decrease cost at same production. Relative to the second method, businesses are pursuing that by doing “inversions”, declaring that their business is now based outside the U.S. thereby decreasing their costs by decreasing their tax liability. Obama is against inversions and is considering actions to prevent or even stop them. So Joe, why is the administration against increasing productivity? Or is taxation the Democrats droit de seigneur?

And here we go… Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin intimidated Walgreens into not inverting to Switzerland from Illinois. Walgreens estimated that the inversion would save it approx. $4 billion over 5 years. When it announced that it was staying, Walgreens stock dropped $6 billion in 24 hours. A combined loss of $10 billion. Why would Walgreens do that deal? Here’s Durbin’s money thug quote: “Much of Walgreens financial success was built on programs and infrastructure provided by the U.S. government” and “the future success of Walgreens will continue to depend on U.S. taxpayers and government-funded programs.” … “nearly 25% of Walgreens profits were from U.S-funded Medicare and Medicaid programs.”

Someone should inform Biden what he should already know. Delaware is called “The Corporate Capital of the US.”

  3. strider says:

Maybe the point he’s trying to make by sounding so dumb all the time is that political allegiance is the key to success.

  4. Kitten says:

It boggles the mind. Who keeps letting Uncle Joe out of the attic without his meds?

  5. Chuck says:

Biden wasn’t alone. He was joined by Steny Hoyer at the same conference, whose opening remarks were “First of all, let me tell my friends from Africa, I do not whip people!”

  6. Maynard says:

The irony is that Biden was put on the ticket to balance the young pup Obama with some mature wisdom and gravitas.

    • Squirrel says:

All this time I thought crazy Uncle Joe was put on the ticket to make sure we would never impeach the Dumb Bastard. Thanks for setting me straight, Maynard.

No, No! Biden is just testing you to see if you are alert!
