Filling in for Cavuto, Varney does a great job highlighting the gobsmacking hypocrisy of the NIH director who blames supposed budget cuts for lack of an Ebola vaccine. Watch as Varney details the ridiculous “studies” on which they’ve been recklessly spending our tax dollars.

All these federal bureaucrats should be thrown out on the ears.

Agree with Tammy that Dr. Collins has forfeited the privilege to lead the NIH. Wonder why he made that comment? Couldn’t he have stayed out of the politics and just said that NIH is working hard to defeat ebola? Is he that weak that he succumbed to WH pressure? Guess so. Too bad, his resume and history seem good.

From wikip: …Collins was home schooled until the sixth grade. He attended Robert E. Lee High School in Staunton, Virginia….The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief is a bestselling book by Francis Collins in which he advocates theistic evolution. Francis Collins is an American physician-geneticist, noted for his landmark discoveries of disease genes, and his leadership of the Human Genome Project (HGP)….determined that he should confirm his atheism by studying the best arguments for faith. A pastor directed him to Mere Christianity by C. S. Lewis, which he cites as the main cause of his conversion….

It’s their answer to everything: “We need more money!” Meanwhile, here’s something they won’t spend money on: a grant to study the effect of common sense on the liberal brain. Alas, I fear it would just be another waste of taxpayer money.

NY Post has several good items today (10/17): regarding ebola, this op-ed points out that the FDA sent out stop research orders to two companies this year concerning their anti-ebola drug research. http://nypost.com/2014/10/16/how-the-feds-block-ebola-cures/ Ostensible reason for stop orders is safety concerns. My cynical suspicion relates to the fact that Democrats only want research advances to come from direct gov’t funding, ie, NIH. So if FDA shuts down some private research, who will know. Regardless, combined with Obama not passing the new quarantine regs, it’s suspicious.

Letter to the editor mentions that the NYC Marathon is Nov. 2 and it has many entrants from Africa. NYC Marathon is the world’s largest (50,000 last year) and terrorists liked their Boston Marathon. A pressure cooker full of ebola would be much worse.

And concerning the Ben Affleck-Bill Maher argument over Islam, Andrea Peyser reminds us that Affleck was snubbed for a Best Director Oscar nomination by Hollywood for Argo because it was a pro-CIA anti-Muslim movie. Peyser concludes that this is Affleck making sure that that won’t happen again.
