Well, they don’t really hate Lucy.

Just the creepy statue.

Via Washington Times: Lucille Ball statue freaks out hometown; residents want ‘monster’ replaced

Residents of Lucille Ball’s hometown in upstate New York town are organizing fundraisers to remove a “frightening” looking bronze statue of the “I Love Lucy” actress.

The 400-pound-life-size bronze statue was erected in 2009 after being privately commissioned.

But many residents have taken offense to sculptor, Dave Poulin’s interpretation of the actress’ face and have formed a Facebook group called “We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue” to organize online fundraising efforts to replace the statue….

“I think it looks like a monster. That is just my opinion,” the Facebook group founder said. “When you see it at night, it is frightening.”

But Celoron mayor Scott Schrecengost told the local Post-Journal that replacing the statue would be very costly….

All of us who loved “I Love Lucy” immediately recognize the bottle she is holding in the statue:

It’s Vitameatavegamin! 🙂

Grotesque, looks amateurish and tinker toyish, like it was farmed out to a family member. No likeness at all. A waste of bronze and the heat to melt it.

Horrible ugly statue. Get rid of it.

Seem to be more problems with artists and statues nowadays. FDR’s statue had casters added to the back of his chair to show that his chair is a wheelchair, and his cigarette holder is not pictured. There were comments and protests about MLK Jrs. Memorial involving the white stone and that the statue is as if he is encased in a wall not standing alone free. There is controversy over the proposed Eisenhower Memorial. On the positive side, with a few changes the statue could become Michelle and be placed outside the Obama library.

Hey Ricky – this looks nothing like Lucy! The only clue – the Vitametavegamine bottle. Ethel and Fred didn’t recognize her either 😉

I think the artist tried to recreate the look Lucy gives after tasting the Vitameatavegamin. But obviously failed. Love that clip! Still hilarious!! 🙂

I agree!! The statue is indeed creepy. A statue featuring Lucy sitting on a bench (with ample room for photo ops!) in Palm Springs is a far better likeness. Impossible to pass by without snapping pix!!

Shifra– the Lucy video clips are PRICELESS!! Thank you for the wonderful trip down memory lane. Made my day!!

Stupid question: Where were all the complaints when this ‘statue’ was erected in:

    2009

That would be at least FIVE YEARS AGO…So, in my opinion, the people b***hing about it now blew their chance to do anything about it. And if the complainers are so upset, why not have a kickstarter and get this thing taken down and melted?

I love Lucy, but this is Zombie Lucy. For all the happiness she gave and still gives, she deserves better.
