Is POTUS trying to reassure Israel?

Or, is this just another “compulsion to confess” ?

Via Yahoo: Obama says a weakened Israel would be ‘failure’ of his presidency

US President Barack Obama has said that a weakened Israel would be a “fundamental failure of my presidency,” affirming solidarity with the long-time ally despite recent differences over the Iran nuclear deal.

Obama said while Israel has reason to be concerned about foe Iran, he defended the framework agreement on Iran’s nuclear program that negotiators drew up last week.

Obama made the comments to The New York Times in a 45-minute video interview on Saturday that was posted on Sunday.

“I would consider it a failure on my part, a fundamental failure of my presidency, if on my watch or as a consequence of work that I’ve done, Israel was rendered more vulnerable,” Obama said.

He said he would consider it “not just a strategic failure, I think that would a moral failure,” adding that no disagreements between Israel and the United States can break their bond….

And, if you just watched the POTUS-Tom Friedman interview clip, here is a “palate-cleanser:”

If you believe what he says, then you believed “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.”

As Tammy often says: when it comes to politicians, look at their actions. I heard a statement by Obama (in passing) this weekend: “Iran is going to know, if they mess with Israel, we’ll be there.” I felt a shiver go down my spine. Remember, words mean something. So, what does “we’ll be there” mean with this POTUS? If we look at his actions, it could mean we’ll drop some MRE’s when the bomb goes off in Israel. I shudder to think what he means. Time will tell. I pray Bibi doesn’t intend to sit around to find out. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Obama gives 2 independent qualifiers; “if on my watch or as a consequence of work that I’ve done”. The first qualifier is easy to dismiss, Israel won’t be seen to be weakened until the next Presidency so not his watch. Regarding the 2nd qualifier who determines that? If P5+1 and/or UN accept Iran Agreement doesn’t that make it work that ‘all’ have done not just him? If Iran cheats on the Agreement, can’t he say that wasn’t work that he did, they cheated, if they followed the Agreement everything would be fine. And/Or can’t he say that the next President should have seen the cheating and fixed, it’s the next President’s fault. Hitler marched into Poland when Chamberlain was still Prime Minister. Iran won’t act until Obama is out of Office. Plenty of political muddy water can go over history’s dam by then.
