Wait.
If I say Barack Obama probably got into Harvard Law School because of affirmative action, that makes me a racist?
Ok, got it….
Via NewsBusters: MSNBC Pundit Suggests Ben Carson an Affirmative-Action Case Who Drank the GOP’s ‘Kool-Aid’
According to MSNBC pundit Michelle Bernard — best known at NewsBusters perhaps because of her insistence that there is a “war on black boys” in America — savaged newly-announced GOP presidential aspirant Dr. Ben Carson tonight by alleging his success is all owed to “affirmative action.” She also suggested that he’s a disgrace to his enslaved ancestors and to the black community in Baltimore, where he’s lived throughout his career as an acclaimed neurosurgeon….
She’s defining Affirmative Action as quota admission. No, it’s outreach to areas that were traditionally skipped over, often because of race, ethnicity, religion but not necessarily. Even accepting her definition for argument’s sake, the position of you can’t advocate against policies that benefit you, is a denial of free will/freedom.
Indeed, I could not have said it more eloquent and true myself Alain. Similarly to how Tammy brought to us the story of the human trafficking baby incidents from the 1960s, as you say there were areas that were traditionally skipped over (it was ingrained policy to be cruel to different classes).
Alain is correct, in as that is what it was supposed to be… but that didn’t last long. It quickly became quotas. By the time I started job hunting in the early 70’s, it was fully and blatantly quotas… I had personel managers tell me, “We can’t hire you, you’re the wrong color!”
Carson, however … affirmative action or not, he turned into one helluva good BRAIN SURGEON!! Not the greatest politician, tho.
Journalism to liberals means politicalism. In other words don’t tell the truth just spew concepts that are viewed through the prism of division and fragmentation.
Bernard is acknowledging the elephant in the room, but only under selective circumstances. When a class of people is pushed to the front of the line for reasons other than merit, then it’s reasonable to look upon those people with a particularly skeptical eye. If you had your choice between trusting your life to a surgeon who had been held to a high standard and one who had not, what would you do? Our cultural obsession with racial “fairness”, backed up by coercive enforcement, has the perverse side effect of adding a rational element to what would otherwise be irrational racism. This creates a vicious circle, as the racism that has been artificially nurtured by visibly inequitable policies is then used to justify even more of the same.
Could not have said it better myself; great point.
Carson is the antithesis of the premise that black men are more likely to commit crimes because of single-parent homes and poverty.
