UPDATE: Sanders defeats Clinton in Indiana primary

The numbers are still coming in but this is not close, and a strong victory for Trump.

As I mentioned in Tammy Radio today, I think Cruz’s comments about Trump would not help him, and in fact have hurt him in the long run. The failed teaming up with Kasich also didn’t help.

In my opinion, people need to move from the #NeverTrump effort (which has obviously failed) and put their energies into a #NeverHillary project.

Fox News projects Trump wins Indiana primary, Democratic race too close to call

DEVELOPING:

Polls have now closed in all counties in Indiana, where Fox News can project that New York businessman Donald Trump will beat Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the Hoosier state’s Republican presidential primary, according to Fox exit polls and early vote tallies.

The victory significantly improves Trump’s chances of amassing the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the Republican presidential nomination this summer in Cleveland.

With just nine states remaining in the nominating process, the stop-Trump wing of the Republican Party appears to be rapidly running out of options.

On the Democratic side, it is too early to project a winner in the contest between former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Indiana Exit polls explain a lot and explain the Trump victory, details from CBS News:

Early exit polling data finds a majority of Indiana GOP primary voters are angry or dissatisfied with the federal government: 34 percent said they were “angry” and 50 percent said they were “dissatisfied.” (Only 14 percent said they were “satisfied” with their government.)

And outsider status is important to Indiana’s voters: 59 percent said they want the next president to “be outside politics,” compared with 36 percent said it was more important to “have political experience.” More than half of GOP voters, 53 percent, said they felt “betrayed” by the Republican Party.

I think it is Trump’s job to show us how he is somehow not the establishment (something I find hard to believe), let alone conservative.

I voted for Trump today, and I’m glad he won easily. I kept coming back to the fact that he is self-funded and not owned by big contributors expecting favors later. I also like how he has championed a new strategy towards “free trade” agreements which have economically devastated my hometown in north central Indiana. Trump also will give Hillary a very tough fight in this race, a much harder fight than we have been used to in the last few presidential elections. I’m looking forward to an exciting campaign and hope differences can be put aside in order to defeat Hillary.

It’s time for all of us to be #neverhillary. I agree with Tammy! How about #hellnohillary?

Just finished the evening podcast, where my main message is that we have 6 months to the general election. We’ve got the space and time to see what everyone does. I’m grateful the general election isn’t tomorrow allowing all of us to be able to do our best! Whew what a wild ride!

I’m a Cruz supporter and while I find it hard to vote for a over pompous ass who acts like a 4 year old on a temper tantrum when losing, I find the idea of Prez H Clinton far more disturbing. So while i can’t stand Trump I will pull the vote for Trump over the she-beast. I even understand Ted losing it on Trump. When for years you try to maintain principles and doing what you believe is right and fair while everyone around is slamming you 24 hrs a day and for not playing the game. It does get to you knowing that you stand for the right principles but no one wants principles when it comes to flash and ratings and political favors.

But now oh boy, it’s now time for all the die hard Trump fans to step it up and stick Donny’s pricey shoes and suit to the fire and demand that he follows through on his speech and prove it and don’t dare come to us if he flops and acts like a regressive leftist.

    Congratulations to Donald J. Trump!

Sen. Cruz fought hard, but similar to the Senate, failed to Influence people, which is a cornerstone to Leadership.

Trump already has that Leadership quality.

I’m with Tammy on this point: The GOP candidate will be better than the Crook or the Kook.

Trump not immediately agreeing to not run 3rd party in response to B.Baer’s question, established him as the outsider in the race. And we voters want an outsider. Republican Senators running for election this year need to positively say that they will ensure Trump has the support he needs to build the wall and secure the border. Not passively say, we will work with him on immigration. Ryan too.

Many people feel their time has come after years of being expected to choose the lesser of two evils. Now they argue Hillary is the reason we should vote Trump. Others, me included, feel the two evils this time are the worst ever and no choice at all. Different evils, but bad just the same. I’ve been dreading Hillary for 20 years but to vote for Trump is a crime against conscience. It’s up to those who brought these candidates to this point to persuade positively. Failure to do so does not put the onus on non-voters for the consequences.

Eight years suffering under Obama now to be followed by four risky years with Hillary or Trump. Five years from now we will know if we purged the discredited old politics for better or worse. We don’t have forever to get it right.

PamelaRice had a comment over at the Navy Seal post which I responded to. Here’s her comment, and then mine, over there at this link https://tammybruce.com/2016/05/wh-doublespeak-navy-seal-was-killed-in-combat-but-not-in-a-combat-mission.html

I know we come sometimes from different places, but I can’t stress the point ebough that I made on the podcast last night: The general is in 6 months, we all have time to step back and watch and listen. I think that would be extremely valuable, even just when it comes to alleviating some of the stress and exhaustion. We need to not just make it through the election, but whoever is elected, we know our work as citizens will just begin.

After Cruz bowed out last night I was too disappointed to even look at twitter, this blog or listen to radio/TV. I saw nothing but dark days ahead for us (even though I know better). I needed to unplug and take a breather, even if it were only for a few hours. Woke up this morning and listened to TROTS podcast. I will vote for Trump (I still don’t trust him) and by the end of this whole process may even enthusiastically support him. Now that the nominee is pretty much settled we need to focus on State and local elections. While our attention has been sucked into the black hole circus of this primary the left has been hard at work. The conservative, Marlin Stutzman, lost to Mitch’s boy, Todd Young, in Indiana’s senate race. We can not loose our focus – because the Mitch McConnells and John Boehners of our country are still hard at work and have not lost their focus. Time to lace up our boots ya’ll!

Excellent commentary Pamela. And you remind us of the importance of all the other races. I know there will still be people at the end who will refuse to vote for Trump, but if people *stay home* it means they also abandon all the ‘down ticket’ races.
So the first priority is to vote for all! But we musn’t forget everyone else running. We all agree the goal is to get this wonderful country back on her feet. We can only do that through a reformation and a Congress that understands and supports what we need to do to get that done. Influence, influence, influence! And one day at a time 🙂 xxoo
