russian flag

Lots of Tweeps seem to think so.

Russian athletes may be lacking at the Rio Olympics – but it appears the country’s flag will be on the chest of every athlete in Team USA at the Opening Ceremony.

On Friday, designer Ralph Lauren and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) unveiled the parade uniform American athletes will wear as they enter the Maracanã Stadium on August 5.

The Polo Ralph Lauren outfit consists of a navy blue blazer, with a striped T-shirt and white jeans – and is based on an ‘all-American palette of red, white and blue.’

The company released a promotional image of Team USA’s Ryan Lochte, Jordan Burroughs, Melissa Stockwell, Conor Fields, April Ross and Haley Anderson wearing the preppy outfits.

But it didn’t take long for people to point out that the only three bars of the striped T-shirt visible under the jacket and the order – white, blue and red – are the same as those of the Russian flag….

Revenge for 1980 Lake Placid Miracle on Ice? Or the reset button worked! Sort of.

My concern is why we have to have a giant Polo logo? I understand Ralph Lauren designed it, but sheesh!

Just for an experiment, I went to the Team USA main page:

    http://www.teamusa.org/

I see no reference to the uniforms, at all.

Here’s the RL website offering the garb.

    http://www.ralphlauren.com/teamusa/made-in-usa?ab=en_US_OLYMPIC_Feature_slot_1_Explore

    The shoes are $350.

So I couldn’t find ‘the deal’ that RL made with ‘Team USA’. Now if they were given FREE, then having the logo on everything, that’s an acceptable, but tacky, trade-off.
