The Toxic Cocktail Of Islamism
by Pat_S on April 28, 2013Tony Blair was asked on Meet The Press if he thought President Bush was correct to categorize the Iraq war as part of the war on terrorism. David Gregory suggested history would judge the war to be a war of choice that turned into a misadventure. Blair’s response strikes to the heart of what is happening within the Muslim world and its impact on the rest of the world. He speaks about a toxic cocktail of religion, politics, ethnicity and tribalism. Blair warns that the perverted, violent ideology that is causing such turmoil in the Middle East and elsewhere has to be stopped. He did not suggest how or even if there is any willingness on the part of Western...

No Support For Bras
by Pat_S on April 13, 2013After years of study a scientist (a Frenchman believe it or not) concluded bras do more harm than good to women’s breasts. Professor says bras are useless …medically, physiologically and anatomically” breasts gained no benefit from their weight being supported in a bra” Dedicated to his work, Professor Rouillon has been examining breasts professionally since 1997. What he calls his initial results after all these years is that the bra is a “false need” and women should stop wearing them. Evidently further study is required. He said a principle observation was that the nipple would lift 7mm in a year towards the shoulder in those women not wearing a bra. The breast would also become firmer and stretch-marks faded. He...

Profile of Pope Francis
by Pat_S on March 13, 2013Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been selected as the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church. He is described as a humble man who chose to live in a simple apartment instead of the archbishop’s palace. He is an intellectual, a champion of the poor and “social justice”, yet one who held the line against liberalizing currents among the Jesuits. From the National Catholic Reporter …someone who personally straddles the divide between the Jesuits and the ciellini, and more broadly, between liberals and conservatives in the church. Bergoglio has supported the social justice ethos of Latin American Catholicism, including a robust defense of the poor. “We live in the most unequal part of the world, which has...

SEIU Celebrates “Our Comrade” Hugo Chavez
by Pat_S on March 9, 2013We all know the SEIU (Service Employees International Union) is an ardent supporter of Barack Obama. Interesting to note that New York SEIU 1199 organized a candelight procession on Friday night as “A Celebration and Procession For Our Comrade Hugo Chavez”. SEIU Organizes Hugo Chavez ‘Celebration And Procession’ To Honor ‘Our Comrade’ Wibailoutpeople.org was one of the few website which still posted the SEIU announcement detailing the “celebration and procession” for the deceased Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez. A memorial vigil was held Wednesday at the Venezuelan consulate in Manhattan, but the union march is raising eyebrows. From the Facebook event page. TSA Makes Last Minute Deal For $50 Million For Uniforms
by Pat_S on March 6, 2013The sequestration cuts allegedly caused TSA agents to be furloughed causing delays at various U.S. airports (also allegedly). Those lucky TSA agents who kept their jobs are doubly graced. In an eleventh hour deal TSA spent $50 million for new uniforms. Part of the money is going to Mexico. Cuts Be Damned! TSA Orders $50 Million in New Uniforms The Transportation Security Administration made an eleventh-hour deal to buy $50 million worth of new uniforms for its agents — sealing the deal as the nation braced for the budget-smashing sequester, CNS News reports. And incredibly, as the nation continues to struggle with the outsourcing of manufacturing to countries outside the United States, it turns out the uniforms will be partially...

On Rep. Hewett’s Odd Remarks: Waiting For The Other Shoe To Drop
by Pat_S on March 4, 2013There may be a snake under his desk but there will be no female interns in his office if Connecticut State Rep. Ernest Hewett (D) has his way. Criticism Of Hewett’s Inappropriate Remark Intensifies, But He Won’t Quit Asked about the lawmakers’ comments later Friday, Hewett denied he has a history or a problem. For example, he said, “I purposely will not have female interns. My intern now is a male. I want to keep it like that. I’ve had female interns in the past that sit in my office all day. I thought it was totally weird and I didn’t want another. “As a matter of fact, I went four, maybe six years without having an intern at all...

Hunter College Students Play “Abortion Battles”
by Pat_S on February 28, 2013Placing balloons under their shirts, students duel using a plastic fork to “abort” the ‘baby’. The crowd gets into the frenzy with one onlooker urging, “Kill that baby, kill that baby!” ‘Abortion Battles’ Video Shows New York College Students Pretending They’re Killing Unborn Fetuses “Ready, set, go,” she says, and the showdown begins. The faux-pregnant students try to pop one another’s balloons with plastic eating utensils in a crude mockery of abortion. One student loses, garnering hysterical laughter from students, and the game resets with new contenders. “Ready, set, battle,” the girl says, and the revelry starts all over again. “Kill that baby, yo, kill that baby. Kill that baby,” a student, who appears to be taking the video, yells...

Norwegian TV Airs Wood Burning Marathon
by Pat_S on February 16, 2013The Viking Age is a tough act to follow for excitement in Norway. Watching a 12-hour marathon of wood burning is what goes for entertainment these days. Norway’s NRK broadcasts 12-hour wood burning programme Norwegian public TV is broadcasting a hot program, if you like to watch wood burn for 12 hours that is. The NRK woodathon features firewood specialists providing commentary and advice on subjects such as chopping, stacking and burning the wood. The transmission, entitled Hel Ved, also features music and poetry. The head of programming at NRK, Rune Moeklebust, described it as “slow but noble television”. “We’ll talk about the very nerdy subjects like burning, slicing and stacking the wood, but we’ll also have cultural segments with...

Nooooooo! Knut The Polar Bear’s Hide On Display In Museum
by Pat_S on February 15, 2013This is too ghoulishly exploitative for my taste. Let us remember adorable Knut as he was in life. Knut the Polar Bear Becomes Museum Display Adorable in life, still attracting admirers in death: Knut the polar bear’s hide has been mounted on a polyurethane body and is going on display in a Berlin museum. The museum dismissed criticism of the decision to display Knut, saying it gives everyone an opportunity to see him. He warmed our hearts with his life and broke our hearts with his death. Rest in peace dear little Knut.

UN Legally Enforceable Treaty Reducing Mercury Emissions Adopted
by Pat_S on January 20, 2013Reversing the policy of the G.W. Bush administration, the U.S. Joined 140 nations adopting the first legally binding treaty to reduce mercury emissions. A signing ceremony will be held in Japan later in the year after which it will take 50 nations to ratify. Fifty percent of mercury emissions come from volcanoes. Some anthropogenic sources are thermometers, the infamous CFL light bulb, dental fillings, facial cream, small scale gold mining, cement production and coal-burning power plants. The hat making industry long ago dispensed with mercury after learning the use of mercury-based compounds resulted in mad hatters. Some countries have already banned mercury-containing thermometers. The CFL light bulb probably won’t wind up in the dust bin of history. For one thing...

Magic Beans And The Giant
by Pat_S on December 12, 2012In the world of fairy tales, Jack, an impetuous boy, obtained magic beans that led to an encounter with a giant. Jack not only slew the giant, he took the giant’s treasure including the hen that laid golden eggs. In real life, the giants usually win and keep all the gold. We shall see if that holds up next year when the Supreme Court hears the case of Bowman vs Monsanto. The corporate giant Monsanto sells genetically modified soybean seeds that are resistant to Roundup, an herbicide manufactured by Monsanto. Monsanto makes a lot of money selling the seeds and they have a patent on them. The farmer who buys the seeds is obligated to buy new seeds for every...

Leathernecks
by Pat_S on November 19, 2012Libs may think twice about cutting the defense budget when they hear about this. Forget about the Halls of Montezuma and, for sure, the shores of Tripoli. What better use of a few good men and women than babysitting turtles? There are about 500 “threatened” tortoises living in the Mojave Desert. The Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms is engaged in The Desert Tortoise Head-Start Facility project to protect the young tortoises from predators. It’s a $100,000 a year program funded by the Defense Department. Marines protecting threatened desert tortoises The slow-growing tortoises may need a year or more before they’re big enough to be released into the desert. … The tortoise is threatened by development, off-road...

Sacrificial Cow Kills Man At Palestinian Muslim Slaughter Feast
by Pat_S on October 27, 2012We’re not doing Cow Tales on a regular basis but this one warrants our attention. Panicking cow kills Palestinian in Muslim feast A panicking cow killed a Palestinian man who was trying to slaughter the beast on Saturday during the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha, a Gaza health official said. I’m trying to picture this. In addition to the death, Gaza heath official Ashraf al-Kidra said that 150 other people were hospitalized in the Gaza Strip with knife wounds or other injuries caused by animals trying to break away. It is a rough neighborhood over there.

Mayor Bloomberg: Roads Were Not Built For Cars
by Pat_S on October 26, 2012This may be a surprise to Barack Obama, but roads were not built for business. They were built for pedestrians, then horses, then bicycles. And that’s the end of it as far as Mayor Bloomberg is concerned. Cars are just clogging up roads creating traffic jams for mass transit. Stop it. Bloomberg says mass transit, cyclists ‘more important’ than drivers who clog roads Speaking at a transportation conference at New York University, Bloomberg said people often forget streets weren’t made for cars. “The streets were there to transport people,” he said. “They are not for cars … One of the original ways was walking.” Mass transit is the only way to stop the economy-crushing gridlock that plagues urban centers, he...
