[Video] Watch a US Nuclear Submarine Emerge from the Ice
by Tammy on March 22, 2016A magnificent thing. Via PopSci. X almost marks the spot. The USS Hartford’s aim was just a little off, and as the nuclear attack submarine surfaced through the ice of the Arctic circle, the view from the aircraft overhead shows a giant X carved into snow just to the side of the vehicle. The Arctic is fortunately an empty place, and precision surfacing isn’t really the point of the vehicle. Instead, it was there as part of the ICEX military exercises, practice for the coldest war of all. By breaching the ice, USS Hartford (and its compatriot, the USS Hampton, shown above) joins a long tradition of nuclear submarines in the Arctic circle. The USS Nautilus was the first to...

Mummified Prehistoric Puppy Found, Scientist Wants to Clone
by Tammy on March 20, 201612,400 years old. They’ve determined this pre-historic Sydney is in fact a dog, not a wolf. But it does worry me about the their desire to clone. There’s a reason why certain creatures aren’t here anymore, and we should keep it that way. What do you think? Via the Telegraph. The remains of a 12,400 year old puppy have been found in permafrost in Siberia. This has given scientists and important and fascinating opportunity to examine a well-preserved Pleistocene canid for the first time. The puppy is thought to be the sibling of another whose remains were found in 2011. It is believed the creature was killed in a landslide, and then became mummified. The previous kind was in a...

Mystery Repeating Radio Signals Detected in Deep Space
by Tammy on March 4, 2016This is the first time we’ve ever encountered signals like this. We think we know everything, but really, we know essentially nothing. Via Telegraph. E.T phoning home may be a Hollywood invention but now astronomers claim to have detected repeating radio signals from outside the solar system. The possibility of alien life somewhere in deep space remains a tantalising prospect for scientists as they continue to scan the galaxy for potential messages, or radio bursts, sent from intelligent life. And now researchers at Cornell University say they have discovered repeated 10 millisecond-long “fast radio bursts” (FRBs) after sifting through archive data caught by the Arecibo telescope in Puerto Rico. “We’re showing that whatever battery drives FRBs, it can recharge in...

January 24,1984: Steve Jobs Introduces Macintosh
by Shifra on January 24, 2016Doesn’t it seem like yesterday? Via CBS News: January 24th, 1984, 32 years ago today … the day Apple delivered on a promise it made in a Super Bowl commercial just two days earlier…. At $2,500, consumers found that original Macintosh too expensive for what it could actually do. Sales fell short of expectations. And in little more than a year, Jobs was effectively forced to leave the company…. On the verge of bankruptcy in 1997, Apple brought Jobs back — and what followed was a seemingly endless succession of successful Apple products, continuing up to Jobs’ death in 2011 — and beyond…. By the way, the early 1984 Macintosh computer had 0.13 MegaBytes of memory. The iPhone 6S, introduced...

One Of These Days To The Moon Alice
by Pat_S on October 30, 2015A group of eight female Russian astronauts is in training for a trip to the moon. They were interviewed before entering a research facility to study their psychology. Some feathers have been ruffled by the institute director’s sexist remark about the women living with each other for several days. All-female Russian crew starts Moon mission test “I’d like to wish you a lack of conflicts, even though they say that in one kitchen, two housewives find it hard to live together,” he added. The Russian media questioned the astronauts about hair washing and living without men or makeup. Unfortunately for the staunchest feminists, one of the astronauts said: “I don’t know how we’ll survive without shampoo. Because even in this...

World’s First Head Transplant Possibly In 2017
by Pat_S on September 15, 2015Two surgeons, one Italian and one Chinese, say they could perform the procedure within the next two years. The surgical team performed almost 1,000 head transplants on mice since 2013. None of the mice lived for more than a day. A 30-year old Russian man with a rare spinal muscular disease will be the volunteer. First Head Transplant May Happen In China By 2017 Russian-born Valery Spiridonov, 30, volunteered for the surgery. Spiridonov suffers from Werdnig-Hoffman disease, which is a type of spinal muscular atrophy that is characterized as an incurable and progressive wasting ailment. Via WSJ: Erik Sorto has been paralyzed from the neck down for 13 years, but recently he lifted a bottle of beer to his lips and took a drink by himself. How did he do it? With a robotic arm controlled by his mind.

Guess Who Scored Higher On Science Quiz: ‘Warming Mongers’ Or Skeptics?
by Shifra on February 23, 2015Climate Change alarmists love to portray anyone who questions their “facts” as ignorant flyover-country anti-science morons who still believe the earth is flat. So, they will not be too happy with the following: Via Investor’s Business Daily: Are Global Warming Skeptics On Wrong Side Of Science? ….the findings of a study show that global warming skeptics score better on climate science questions than those who believe man is causing the planet to warm through the combustion of fossil fuels. A paper that will appear in the journal Advances in Political Psychology says that, on average, skeptics got 4.5 questions right while the followers of the faith averaged four correct answers. This doesn’t mean skeptics are more informed; it just means...

Feds Developing Technology To Determine Body Mass Index From Our Photos
by Shifra on September 15, 2014Looks like Mooch’s fingerprints, all over this one: Via Free Beacon: Feds Developing Technology to Detect Obesity from Your Picture The federal government is developing a body mass index (BMI) detector intended to be available to every American “anywhere and anytime,” according to a grant awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The detector is expected to rely on the analysis of facial and body imagery…. “Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of the ratio between an individual’s weight and height, which is an important parameter to characterize human bodies into four categories, i.e., underweight, normal, overweight, and obese,” the grant states. “A high BMI value is associated with a higher risk for conditions such as type 2 diabetes,...

Ancient Mummy Statue Turns Its Back to the Crowds
by Patricia on June 24, 2013An ancient statue in the Manchester Museum spins away from the crowd during the day and is still at night. Interesting that once the 4,000-year-old statue of Neb-Senu has rotated and faces away from the crowd entering the museum it seems to have completed its rotation. From FoxNews: An ancient statue created as an offering to the Egyptian god of death has stumped the Manchester Museum in England after a time-lapse video taken over a week-long period shows the artifact slowly spinning. The strange occurrence was first noticed by the statue’s current caretaker, Campbell Price, who reset the relic back to its original direction after finding it askew, only to discover the statue returned to the wrong direction again the...

No Support For Bras
by Pat_S on April 13, 2013After years of study a scientist (a Frenchman believe it or not) concluded bras do more harm than good to women’s breasts. Professor says bras are useless …medically, physiologically and anatomically” breasts gained no benefit from their weight being supported in a bra” Dedicated to his work, Professor Rouillon has been examining breasts professionally since 1997. What he calls his initial results after all these years is that the bra is a “false need” and women should stop wearing them. Evidently further study is required. He said a principle observation was that the nipple would lift 7mm in a year towards the shoulder in those women not wearing a bra. The breast would also become firmer and stretch-marks faded. He...

by Tammy on March 23, 2013** In honor of saving the planet by recycling, I’m bumping up this post from last year and updating certain links 😉 ** Competitive Enterprise Institute: “Supporting the freedom needed for humans to innovate so that our lives on earth are longer, healthier, and more enjoyable” Sure, a combination of hippies and leftists want everyone to embrace the Stone Age with “Earth Hour” on Saturday at 830pm your local time, but we here in the normal world celebrate Human Achievement! I especially like enjoying what planet Earth has given us in the form of coal by worshipping electricity and all the products it powers. All at once. Won’t you join me in turning on everything in your house/apartment/shack all at...

TSA Removing Naked Machines From Largest US Airports
by Tammy on October 20, 2012All that controversy, all that fighting, all that radiation, all that taxpayer money and they’ve been “quietly” removing them for the past several weeks. These bastards put us through so much for so long. Infuriating. Keep in mind, there will now be different, supposedly less naked, more cartoon figure machines in their place. Click through and read the whole thing. Via Mashable. You know those x-ray body scanners that not only expose you to radiation but reveal your nakedness to security agents? That unsettling experience will be a thing of the past at many major airports, because the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been quietly removing them, according to ProPublica. Over the past few weeks, the TSA has quietly removed...
