10-year-old gives birth in Idaho; Suspected illegal immigrant charged with rape

A 37-year-old man is charged with raping a 10-year-old girl who gave birth last month in Idaho.

"St. Anthony Police said they were notified of the young girl's pregnancy by medical personnel after she went in for treatment at a doctor's office," KIFI-TV reports on its website.

One day later, the ABC affiliate says the young mother delivered a 6-pound girl at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg, Idaho.

KIDK-TV says Guadalupe Gutierrez-Juarez, a suspected illegal immigrant, is being held at the Fremont County Jail. He's due in court next week to face rape charges.

Oh, I also want to know what sort of parents force a 10- year-old (that's a fourth-grader folks, 9 when raped) to carry this pregnancy to term. They, too, should be arrested for child neglict and endangerment.

Last week we endured the story of Muslim beasts in Yemen and the 8-year-old "bride" travesty. Her parents facilitated the abuse of the girl, and the 28-year-old to whom she was given thought it was all fine and dandy too. But it doesn't stop there. Here is another story of the use and abuse of children in the name of Islam. If Muslims had any real concern about Islam and the image in the co-called Prophet Muhammad, they might be taken a little more seriously if they dealt with the psychopaths who murder in the name of Muhammad and in instances around the world, enslave children.

Boy flees Islamic school that makes beggars of African kids

DAKAR, Senegal - On the day he decided to run away, 9-year-old Coli awoke on a filthy mat...It was still dark as he set out for the mouth of a freeway with the other boys, a tribe of 7-, 8- and 9-year-old beggars...

There are 1.2 million Colis in the world today, children trafficked to work for the benefit of others. Those who lure them into servitude make $15 billion annually, according to the International Labor Organization.

It's big business in Senegal. In the capital of Dakar alone, at least 7,600 child beggars work the streets, according to a study released in February by the ILO, the United Nations Children's Fund and the World Bank. The children collect an average of 300 African francs a day, just 72 cents, reaping their keepers $2 million a year.

Most of the boys — 90 percent, the study found — are sent out to beg under the cover of Islam, placing the problem at the complicated intersection of greed and tradition. For among the cruelest facts of Coli's life is that he was not stolen from his family. He was brought to Dakar with their blessing to learn Islam's holy book.

In the name of religion, Coli spent two hours a day memorizing verses from the Quran and over nine hours begging to pad the pockets of the man he called his teacher...Not all Quranic boarding schools force their students to beg. But for the most part, what was once an esteemed form of education has degenerated into child trafficking. Nowadays, Quranic instructors net as many children as they can to increase their daily take.

Read the whole story and learn a little bit more of the beasts who dare to condemn others, and the world, including our president and the Pope actually argue that this sort of society should be treated as civilized and like all others. Shameful.

Sheriff: Man killed motorcyclist who followed daughters

A man is facing a murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed a motorcyclist who followed his daughters home from a department store.

Richard Harold Gear, 45, claimed he was acting in self-defense when he shot Bryan Joseph Mough around 6:45 p.m. Monday as Mough drove his motorcycle past Gear's house, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said.

The daughters, ages 17 and 19, had called their father on a cell phone to tell him they were being followed, Berry said. As they arrived home, Gear was waiting at the end of his driveway with a pistol, Berry said.

Mough, 21, drove past the house, turned around and made another pass. Gear fired his .40-caliber semiautomatic gun two or three times, hitting Mough once in the back, Berry said...Gear's daughters and Mough apparently left the parking lot of a Target in nearby Athens around the same time Monday evening, Berry said. Tempers flared as the drivers headed west toward Bogart.

Gear's daughters told investigators Mough cut them off, they made obscene gestures at him and Mough ran into their car at one point, Sheriff Berry said. "There is evidence of a collision between Mough's motorcycle and the vehicle operated by Gear's daughters," Berry said, adding authorities do not yet know who initiated contact.

Ironically, this thread has generated a lot of comments from newbies who condemn me for supporting a man who in this initial story seems to be defending his daughters. These same people who decry my lack of sensitivity then threaten to kill me, wish someone would kill me, or at the very least, rape me. Impressive. Obviously all of those people are banned. This blog is a place for opinion, and the Comments section is the perfect place for people to challenge that opinion and post their own. Threatening to kill me does not constitute having an 'opinion.' It just makes you a shallow, reactionary hypocrite. You do lose just a tad of credibility when you issue threats of violence because I lauded a father apparently defending his daughters. If the story ends up being different, we'll have it here.

Sheriff: Man allegedly shot at teens in 2006

Oconee County investigators are taking a fresh look at 2-year-old allegations a Bogart man fired a gun at a group of teens, after he shot and killed a motorcyclist in front of his house this week.

Authorities didn't charge Richard "Ricky" Harold Gear at the time because they couldn't prove he fired a gun, and witnesses were "less than truthful" about what happened, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said Wednesday.

The sheriff's office will reinvestigate that shooting in light of Gear's claim that he acted in self-defense when he shot 21-year-old Bryan Joseph "B.J." Mough on Monday after Mough argued with Gear's daughters in traffic and followed them home...

"This case, like most cases, generates a lot of comments from the public," the sheriff said. "We're still working hard on it, and we're going to follow all leads to their logical conclusion."

Gear's daughters, 17 and 19, called their father Monday night to tell him that someone was following them; when they arrived home, Gear was waiting at the end of the driveway with a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol, Berry said.

Mough drove by the house, turned around, and Gear shot two or three times as the motorcycle made a second pass, according to Berry.

Boy Scout saves Maldives president

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - A quick-thinking Boy Scout foiled an assassination attempt on the president of the Maldives on Tuesday, grabbing an attacker's knife as the man leapt from a crowd and lunged at the leader, an official said.

President Maumoon Gayoom was unhurt, but his shirt was ripped as the attacker tried a second time to stab him before being overpowered by security guards, government spokesman Mohammed Shareef said.

"One brave boy saved the president's life," he said.

Mohammed Jaisham Ibrahim, wearing his blue Maldives scout uniform with a blue kerchief, was standing in the crowd to greet Gayoom on Hoarafushi, one of the 1,190 coral islands in the Indian Ocean that make up the Maldives.

The attacker hid a knife in the Maldivian flag as he awaited Gayoom's arrival, then lunged at the president, Shareef said.

Ibrahim reached out and grabbed the blade, and he was cut on the hand, according to the government.

"There was blood on the president's shirt, but it was not his but the boy's," Shareef said.

Wow.

Child molester inmate dies after choking on hot dog

ATWATER, Calif. (AP) Prison officials say a convicted child molester and kidnapper died last month after choking on a hot dog.

Forty-five-year-old Frederick Fretz was serving a 20-year sentence at the federal penitentiary in Atwater.

Prison spokesman Jesse Gonzalez says medics tried to remove the hot dog from Fretz's throat before taking him to a Merced hospital. He was pronounced dead on Dec. 19.

According to The Orlando Sentinel, Fretz pleaded guilty in 2005 to kidnapping an 11-year-old boy from Marion County, Fla.

I haven't had one in years, but tomorrow I will enjoy a hot dog from the famous Pink's Hot Dogs. While we can't reverse the damage he did, I will salute the fact that God apparently believes, as do I, that child molesters deserve the death penalty.

Five-Year-Old Boy Feels 'Very Well' After Having Peach-Sized Brain Tumor Removed

NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y. — A 5-year-old Peruvian boy rushed to Long Island for surgery to remove a peach-sized brain tumor said he felt "very well" less than a week after the procedure.

Sebastian Jimenez Pina praised the doctors who treated him -- and the congressman who helped get him to them -- at a news conference Wednesday at Schneider Children's Hospital, where he underwent the operation Dec. 27.

"The hospital and the doctors were very good," the boy said in Spanish.

His physicians, Dr. Mark Mittler and Dr. Mark Atlas, said Sebastian would have died quickly without the surgery. It removed the tumor protruding from his right temple and two other, smaller ones on his head.

Yeah, and I bet you we waterboarded that little boy ahead of time to make sure he said nice things about the doctors.

Ex-Guantanamo detainees freed in London

LONDON (AFP) — Two British residents just released from the US-run Guantanamo Bay prison camp were let out on bail Thursday pending extradition hearings in London, while another was freed without charge.

Jamil El Banna, 45, who spent more than four years in the camp, was detained on a European arrest warrant after arriving back Wednesday night with two other British residents from the detention centre in Cuba.

"I'm tired. I want to go home and see my children," said the long-bearded El Banna, who is wanted by authorities in Spain. Later television pictures showed him hugging his children after returning by taxi to his home. [Awww, how special considering so many men aren;t able to hug their children because they were blown up by his bosses in al-Qaida...] ...

The hearings at City of Westminster Magistrates Court were told that Spanish authorities alleged that El Banna and Deghayes were members of an Al-Qaeda cell called the Islamic Alliance...

Meanwhile, Melanie Cumberland, a lawyer for the Spanish authorities, told the court that Deghayes was "a highly committed member of Al-Qaeda" and was "willing to participate in terrorist activities."

One of the financial guarantors for the men was said to be the human rights activist and actress Vanessa Redgrave. She declined to comment on the financial backing but said outside court she was "very happy" to be able to help El Banna's family.

"Guantanamo Bay is a concentration camp. It is a disgrace that these men have been kept there all these years and today Jamil will be back home and justice has been done," she said.

Funny, it's apparently the one "concentration camp" ever in the world where the detainees gain an average of 20 pounds each, as they fight over which DVD to watch and who will be on what soccer team.

And here, for a piece with Sixty Minutes, she insists she's not a Jew-hater, despite, as one example, that little dance she did with the PLO and a Kalashnikov rifle. Funny, she insists she wants to fight fascism everywhere, yet condemns America defending herself and supports those who were captured on the Afghanistan battlefield, and whom even the Spanish believe are al-Qaida terrorist operatives.

Or, as is usually the case, we have to look at what people, like Redgrave, do not what they say. There we find the truth of the matter.

They're marketed as the all-American girls, each representing a different period in American history. But CBS 11 found the American Girl dolls that teach our heritage aren't really American.

Susan Mobley has purchased several American Girl dolls over the years for her daughter, Heather. But the Mobleys recently discovered these dolls are only American in name. If you look closely, you'll see a tag on the box that says "Made in China."

"To have an American Girl doll made in China sounds like a contradiction, does it not?" said Dr. Daniel Howard, professor of Marketing at the SMU Cox School of Business.

He says it's all about cost. It's more expensive to manufacture the dolls in the U.S., which means the price of the $87 dolls would be even higher.

"I believe that there are many American consumers who would pay it simply for the knowledge, simply for the comfort of knowing that this doll was made in the good ol' U.S. of A," Dr. Howard said...

If that's not enough, check out the patronizing response the reporter got after contacting American Girl about the absurdity of their product being made in China:

"Like the majority of the world's toys, American Girl products are manufactured in China, in addition to 18 other countries. All the design and conception work is done at the company's headquarters in Wisconsin."

Yeah, 18 countries other than the United States. So hey, what's the problem? All the Arty-type work is done in Wisconsin. It's just the boring blue-collar manufacturing jobs we ship out to a communist pit that's at war with us.

We shouldn't be surprised by this. "American Girl" is made by Mattel, which has had the largest recall of toys in the world, with 9.5 million units recalled because of dangerous or shoddy work done in China.

And never, never, forget that it was Mattel that apologized to China after the massive recalls.

Teachers and Staff Told Thanksgiving is for "Mourning"

Killing off a nation's heroes and stomping out tradition are essential strategies in the Left's efforts to destroy this nation. Make no mistake--attacking Thanksgiving and Christmas are part of that effort of destruction.

Now, Multiculturalists in the Seattle school district have sent out a missive explaining how Thanksgiving for "Native" Americans isn't necessarily a good thing because it represents "500 years of betrayal."

Yeah, I get it--I, too, mourn not returning to the mid-Western plains, sleeping on the ground, in the tee-pee, during November, as you plot about how to scalp your enemy. It's obvious how much much better that is than pesky Civilization. To say nothing of having absolutely no room in your wigwam for all those scalps.

School says Thanksgiving is for 'mourning'

Seattle school officials are telling teachers that Thanksgiving actually is a time of "mourning" since it represents "500 years of betrayal."

The message to all "staff" in the Seattle Public Schools comes from Caprice D. Hollins, the director of "Equity, Race & Learning Support," and other officials including Willard Bill Jr. of the "Office of Native American Education."

"With so many holidays approaching we want to again remind you that Thanksgiving can be a particularly difficult time for many of our Native students," the letter said.

The school letter refers educators to a website, Oyate, run by an outside organization that promotes Indian culture, and recommends teachers explore it.

"Here you will discover ways to help you and your students think critically, and find resources where you can learn about Thanksgiving from a Native American perspective," the letter said. "Eleven myths are identified about Thanksgiving, take a look at No. 11 and begin your own deconstruction."

"Fact: For many Indian people, 'Thanksgiving' is a time of mourning, of remembering how a gift of generosity was rewarded by theft of land and seed corn, extermination of many from disease and gun, and near total destruction of many more from forced assimilation. As currently celebrated in this country, 'Thanksgiving' is a bitter reminder of 500 years of betrayal returned for friendship," the website describes.

Gee, last time I checked, hostilities really got off to a great starts when Indians decided they could be bribed and joined the British during the Revolutionary War. Yeah, hooking up with the enemy and shooting at us also really mucks up the 'friendship' thing.

Fugitive accused of raping child caught

LAS VEGAS - A fugitive accused in the videotaped molestation of a 3-year-old girl was arrested quietly during a traffic stop, telling the officer, "I'm tired of running," police said.

Chester "Chet" Arthur Stiles, 37, was scheduled for a hearing Wednesday. He was pulled over late Monday in Henderson for not having a license plate and admitted his identity after police said his license looked suspicious, authorities said..."This is an answer to our prayers, actually," Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo said. "He should be off the street. In our opinion, he is a predator."

Stiles, who had been portrayed by authorities as a dangerous, knife-wielding survivalist, provided an expired California drivers license with a photo that Dye said looked "suspicious."

"The picture on the license didn't quite match the gentleman in the vehicle," Dye said.

After further questioning, the officer said Stiles revealed his true name. Dye said Stiles cooperated and didn't resist...

Too bad.

Child beggars have proliferated in Mecca and Medina, some maimed by traffickers to draw the sympathy of Muslim faithful who flock to Islam's holiest cities in Saudi Arabia during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. "Organised African gangs deliberately mutilate these child beggars before sending them into Saudi Arabia," Mecca police spokesman Abdul Mohsen al-Mimaan was quoted as saying..."These Africans practice the trade of children who have an arm or a leg amputated or whose body is burned with incendiary materials," Mimaan said...

The interior ministry announces almost daily arrests of beggars. Over the past five months, 15,000 of them, including around 2,700 Saudis, have been rounded up.

Officials fear the children could be exposed to sexual exploitation or sickness. [Sexual exploitation? In the holiest of all Islamic cities?! It's a lie! A lie!!!!]

But the scourge is not unique to Saudi Arabia.

According to a study by the Imam Mohammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh published in the Saudi daily Okaz, more than 80,000 "street children" can be found at any one time in the six oil-rich Gulf Arab monarchies -- Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Around 16,000 of those are on the streets of Bahrain, Oman and the UAE...

An official Saudi study recently cited in Okaz said that "more than 24,000 children of 18 nationalities, but particularly Yemenis, are thrown onto the streets of the kingdom, chiefly in Mecca and Medina, during Ramadan." [...]

According to the study compiled by the Imam Mohammad bin Saud Islamic University, 69 percent of child beggars in the capital Riyadh are Saudis aged six to eight. Economic and social factors, such as "the breakup of the family unit, domestic violence and poverty," are mainly to blame for pushing children to the streets, the study says.

Ex-girlfriend tells how child rape suspect met girl

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- An intense manhunt was under way Monday for Chester Stiles, a 37-year old man whom police say is a suspect in the videotaped rape of a 3-year-old girl four years ago.

Also Monday, Stiles' former girlfriend told CNN she believes she put him in contact with the girl. Tina Allen said she is "disgusted" and "mortified" at her role in bringing them together... Allen said she and Stiles had been in an on-again, off-again relationship for 10 years and that he was good with her children.

"He said he'd been in the Navy and, you know, I was looking for a strong guy to represent to my sons what I thought they needed to be," Allen said. Allen took Stiles to a crowded apartment where her son and daughter lived. Also living in the apartment were a family friend and her 3-year-old daughter, who allegedly was victimized by Stiles.

"I'm disgusted. I'm ashamed, embarrassed, mortified," Allen said. "I regret every, every step I ever took; I feel bad for the baby."

Girl Seen on Sex Tape Found Safe

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A young girl who was seen being sexually assaulted in a homemade videotape has been found and is safe with relatives and sheriff's officials, an investigator said Friday.

"We found the victim. She's safe," Nye County sheriff's Detective David Boruchowitz told The Associated Press.

Widespread media accounts of the case led to the crucial tip that helped find the girl, Boruchowitz said. He did not provide details of her identity, where she lives or how she was located, but a news conference was planned later Friday.

A man being sought for questioning, Chester Arthur Stiles, remains at large, said Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo.

"For us, he is a person of interest. We want to talk with Mr. Stiles about the identity of the female victim," DeMeo said in a telephone interview with the AP.

7:46pm PT: PC has begun. They're thanking all those involved with tips, etc that led to the discovery of the girl. "Successful resolution" regarding the girl. She is "safe and okay." The mother has been cooperating.

Explaining they released the name of the victim in the event people/parents did not recognize the photo itself.

They've asked that photographs of th elittle girl be removed from media now that she has been found. I had posted her picture in this post, and have removed it.

Crime took place in Las Vegas, not in Nye County. The family lives in Las Vegas. The mother even recognized the room in which the attack occurred.

The police received tips even from prisoners who recognized Stiles and gave them info on the predator. They seem to be now handing those over to one of the detectives involved, especially after a question re the fact that they looked around the world for the girl, and she was right under their nose.

7:59pm PT: The sheriff has told Chester Arthur Stiles to turn himself in. Inexplicably, the sheriff says he hopes that the little girl will grow up without being harmed. After being raped. At the age of five. When you do remember things.

This is why child molestation/rape should be a capital crime. Stiles has a warrant out for his arrest on another charge of lewd behavior with a child under the age of 14. If we executed these bastards they wouldn't get out of prison, and they wouldn't steal the lives of the little girls.

Here are a few more details about Stiles from today's coverage.

The girl, now 7, was shown in a sex video made four years ago, Detective David Boruchowitz said at a news conference Friday night.

She was found Friday with family in Las Vegas after thousands of tips poured in, thanks to an appeal by police to the news media to show the girl's picture. CNN and other news organizations did so until the child was found, when DeMeo asked them to stop showing the picture.

"The mother has cooperated with us," DeMeo said. "We believe that the mother was not aware of anything that went on with this young girl," he said. "It was very sad for her to find this out."

A former Las Vegas animal trainer, Chester Arthur Stiles, 37, a resident of Pahrump, Nevada, has been identified as a suspect and is being sought in the case, DeMeo said. Pahrump is about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.

Stiles was a distant friend of the girl's family, DeMeo said...Someone close to Stiles has described to investigators that Stiles is a "survivalist type" and always carries a weapon, Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett.

Dueling Extremes: Burqinis vs. Floozies, and a plea for Self-Imposed Propriety

I was checking out this "Opus" comic (take a look, if it's still there), and I was curious about the reference to a "burqini". What might this be? The strip names a website, www.ahiida.com. Yes, there it is, the burqini collection! Finally, a line of swimwear for Muslim women! And from Australia, no less.

A little web research traced the lineage of this apparel back to the 2005 Cronulla Beach (Australia) riots, in which racial tensions between Muslims and non-Muslims turned violent. I'm vague on the details, but the flashpoint seems to have involved a lifeguard whose swimsuit was regarded as immodest.

This incident inspired an Australian woman to invent the "burqini".

Mrs Zanetti, 38, said it had taken her a year to persuade Muslim women in Sydney that swimming "is not a sin". Now sales of the "burqini", which retails for about £65, have soared, largely through word of mouth.

Meanwhile, back in America, I noticed Susan Estrich's FoxNews editorial, "Little Girls in a Sick Society":

When my daughter was younger, I used to despair every time we went clothes shopping. The outfits in the “girls department” weren’t for girls, they were for little women, cut for little women’s bodies, designed to reveal what was not yet there, or not appropriate for showing, even if it was.

Slut-wear is the only word for it; bad enough for women, horrendous for little girls. Now, when I go to the mall, I notice whole stores devoted to selling nothing but that, aimed at the pre-teen set.

So at one extreme we have a culture so structured that it's regarded as sinful for women to swim. And at the other end, young girls are rushed into sexualized roles.

These are not ideologies that can coexist in close proximity. Clearly we're doomed to ongoing culture clashes if our "multicultural" aspirations are to mainstream and normalize both extremes.

But that's the practical aspect. It seems to me the underlying, and troubling, philosophical question is whether mankind is worthy of the freedoms we enjoy in the West. Must we be enslaved or subservient in order to be good? Without a suffocating social structure, are we doomed to descend into hedonism?

The human creature cannot survive in a state of anarchy. Either we are restrained from within (i.e., by personal conscience and moderate social conventions), or from without (i.e., by church and/or state in positions of coercive authority). I'd prefer to live in a world of the former rather than the latter. But sometimes I wonder if my dream is unrealistic.

Good for him. Support in England seems to be increasing. That might have a little something to do with that little fact that the Portuguese authorities have admitted having no concrete evidence implicating the McCanns in the disappearance of their daughter.

It's time to boycott Portugal for the depraved belief that their tourist industry is more important the lives of the entire McCann family.

Branson helps missing UK girl's parents

LONDON - Richard Branson, chairman of Virgin Group, pledged $200,000 on Sunday to help the British couple declared suspects in the disappearance of their young daughter to clear their name, a spokeswoman said.

Branson has also contacted several other wealthy Britons to encourage them to contribute to a legal defense fund for Kate and Gerry McCann, a spokeswoman said. The McCanns, both doctors, have been accused as suspects in the disappearance of Madeleine, who was 3 when she vanished during a family vacation in Portugal on May 3.

"If he can help a little bit to take the burden off the family and extended family in this small way, then that's all to the good," the spokesman said, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with Virgin practice. Branson had already contributed to a $2 million fund set up to help find Madeleine.

Additionally, stories with details of the incompetence of the Portuguese police are also now being told. This investigation has been screwed up from the beginning, no doubt allowing key evidence to be lost. Accusing the McCanns is one more indication of the utter failure of the police to comprehend and solve this case. Outrageous.

You know, as opposed to actual, real, not-made-up stories for public consumption that have absolutely no basis in reality, but are meant to save your tourist trade...that sort of Not Concrete Evidence. Notice though what the BBC headline is, while the real news is buried at the end of the story--that of the Portuguese press reporting the growing belief that there's no concrete evidence against the couple at all.

McCann dismisses overdose claim

The father of missing four-year-old Madeleine McCann has dismissed a French press report that his daughter died from an overdose of sleeping pills.

Gerry McCann said the accusation by France Soir newspaper was "ludicrous"...Portuguese press have also reported that detectives may not have any "concrete" evidence to charge the couple as DNA traces of Madeleine in the holiday apartment and a rental car did not prove anything conclusive.

This is London, from the Evening Standard, actually runs with the actual news headline. They note it's the police who have admitted not having 'concrete evidence' implicating the McCanns. Senior sources admitted there was "nothing concrete" to bring a prosecution.

A source at the Policia Judiciara said today: "There are lots of indications but without more elements it is impossible to determine what has happened in the almost four hours vital to the case from 6pm [on 3 May, when Madeleine vanished].

The Framing of Kate and Gerry McCann Continues, and Falters

The latest, which shouldn't surprise anyone: Portuguese police are now distancing themselves from the heretofore unrefuted claim that blood found in a McCann rental car was a match for Madeleine. I predict we will see prosecutorial misconduct and corruption with this case rivaling the Nifong/Duke travesty of justice.

Here are just two more examples of exactly what we're dealing with here when it comes to the framing of Gerry and Kate McCann.

Maddie blood evidence not certain: Portuguese police

PORTIMAO, Portugal (AFP) — It is not certain that traces of blood found in a car rented by Kate and Gerry McCann match that of their missing daughter Madeleine, the director of the Portuguese judicial police said as they prepared to report to prosecutors on Tuesday.

"None of the results of the analyses allows one to say with certainty that the blood comes from X or Y," Alipio Ribeiro said on Portuguese public television station RTP.

"Not with mathematical precision," he said, in reference to claims by some British media outlets that the results were a perfect match with Madeleine's DNA.

In other words, they can't determine if the blood 'evidence' they've found belongs to a male or a female, let alone to a specific person.

But even with this comment on the record by the director of the Portuguese police, this headline appeared just 45 minutes ago from the UK Press Association in Google News:

DNA in car 'matches Madeleine's'

A sample taken from the boot of the hire car used by Madeleine McCann's parents is a "99% match" for the missing girl's DNA, a report claims.
The dramatic claim comes as Portuguese police prepare to hand their file on the case to the public prosecutor for him to consider whether to bring charges against her parents.

Tests returned from the Forensic Science Service (FSS) in Birmingham on a specimen taken from the McCanns's Renault Scenic showed it was a full match of Madeleine's DNA, unnamed sources told Sky News.

A claim now directly refuted by the Portuguese police, but seemingly irrelevant in the increasing hysteria to persecute this family.

I'm now just waiting to see if the English will resort to lighting torches on fire, hunt the McCanns down, chase them up a windmill, to which they will then set fire.

But before any Frankensteinian plans are laid out, the British, and the world, should consider this little gem about the lead Portuguese detective in the McCann case:

Controversial past of policeman leading the McCann investigation

Despite the recent furore surrounding Kate and Gerry McCann being made suspects in their daughter's disappearance, Goncalo Amaral – head of the Policia Judiciara's investigation – has himself been charged over the alleged assault of a woman whose daughter disappeared in similar circumstances to Madeleine three years ago.

Earlier this year, Mr Amaral and four colleagues were made suspects ( arguidos) in the beating of Leonor Cipriano during an interrogation following the disappearance of her daughter Joana, who vanished from a village seven miles from Praia da Luz.

In June, Mr Amaral and his colleagues were charged, three with torture, a fourth with omission of evidence and a fifth with falsification of documents. It is unclear which offence he was charged with.

Madeleine went missing in May. These charges were brought against detectives in June, one month late,r and yet Amaral remained in charge of the McCann investigation.

I personally find it interesting that we have detectives involved in another case of a missing little girl, where they were charged with torture of the mother, omission of evidence and falsifying documents in an effort to get a conviction. We should wonder, what would have happened to Kate McCann had the world not been watching? Has anyone questioned this detective about his whereabouts when Madeleine went missing?

Obviously, it's good the McCanns are back in the UK, despite the hysteria rising there. It is imperative whatever is in the police file in Portugal, which is now being given to Portuguese prosecutors, be released to the public immediately. One way or the other, we'll find out exactly what's been driving this.

Remember the railroading of the Duke lacrosse players and the presumption from the beginning that they must be guilty and the prosecutor must have evidence we were unaware of. Well, he did--exculpatory evidence he hid. If that can happen in the United States, imagine what happens in Portugal.

Courtesy of the inept police in a tiny tourist town in Portugal, the following TIME Magazine headline is pretty typical of worldwide news coverage about allegations against the parents of missing 4-year-old Madeleine McCann. I have two words for you: Richard Jewell.

Could Kate McCann Be a Murderer?

...But as Kate McCann submitted to a second lengthy interrogation by police in the past two days, it became clear that the couple themselves were now the focus of the investigation...They have been named arguidos, official suspects under Portuguese law. This means police have evidence they believe could point to the couple's involvement, but neither McCann have been arrested or charged with a crime.

Philomena McCann, the sister of Gerry McCann, told Britain's Sky News that the Portuguese police were suggesting that her sister-in-law accidentally killed Madeleine, hid the body and then disposed of it. "I've never heard anything so ludicrous in my life," she told Sky News.

First, here is a BBC story with all the background and the process and timeline of the so-called investigation.

This is not the first time a government decided their was something more important than the truth or the quality of someone else's life. The now deceased Richard Jewell was a genuine hero, having saved numerous lives during the Olympic Park bombing, but because the Feds were more concerned with putting Olympic visitors at ease, they decided sacrificing Jewell's reputation was worth it.

I believe we have the same situation here with Portugal and the McCanns. A completely botched investigation into Madeleine's disappearance on May 3rd, now they're faced with becoming the pariah Aruba of Europe. How better to fix that and "solve" the case than to malign and make suspect the parents themselves.

Very often I remind people that women are more than capable of killing, including their own children. Andrea Yates is an excellent example of that sort of beast. With the McCanns I believe we have a very different situation. Imagine the horror of your child being abducted only to then be accused of killing her yourself.

The latest news is the McCanns are leaving Portugal. Who can blame them? Frankly, they should get out asap. It seems obvious they would leave, which also allows Portugal to leave the stink of suspicion on them without ever solving the crime, and without needing to prove themselves. Just think Duke. I'm sure Nifong, as an example, would have preferred his victims to leave and not fight back, but obviously in this instance the victims are in a foreign country. Leaving that pit is the reasonable thing to do.

As this story unfolds, here's is some other relevant coverage. In the midst of this, Madeleine is still missing. I'm sure the McCanns will do everything they can once home to continue the fight, including to clear their name. The McCann family has a website dedicated to finding Madeleine. From the WaPo, some additional information about what is being claimed about the McCanns:

Traces of blood discovered by British sniffer dogs in a car rented by Gerry and Kate McCann have led Portuguese police to believe that 4-year-old Madeleine McCann was killed and not kidnapped, according to family members and friends...Police have focused their investigation on the McCanns since British dogs specially trained to detect blood and corpses indicated the presence of both in various key sites, according to friends of the McCann family and media accounts in Portugal and Britain.

One dog detected traces of blood in a Renault car rented by the McCanns 25 days after Madeleine's disappearance, as well as on its key chain. Family friends said police interrogators, during lengthy questioning sessions with the McCanns on Thursday and Friday, said DNA testing at a British forensic lab showed that the blood belonged to Madeleine.

Two British newspapers on Saturday reported that a dog trained to sniff out corpses reacted strongly to Kate McCann's clothing and to Madeleine's favorite toy, a pink "Cuddle Cat" that Kate McCann now carries with her regularly.

Various media reports said Kate McCann, a general practitioner, told investigators that she had come into contact with six dead bodies shortly before her one-week family holiday to Portugal.

The mother of missing toddler Madeleine McCann says she fears Portuguese police are trying to frame her after she was named as a suspect...During her interview — conducted shortly before she was named an arguido, or formal suspect, Friday — Kate McCann reportedly broke down in tears.

"Police don't want a murder in Portugal and all the publicity about them not having paedophile laws here, so they're blaming us," she told the paper.

"The Portuguese police are running out of budget for this investigation and want it to end." [...] Kate McCann told the newspaper that officers had removed her copy of the Bible because they thought a crumpled page referring to a dead child suggested she may have a guilty conscience.

"I mean how ridiculous is that? My faith is sorely tested," she adds. Gerry McCann, who was also named as a suspect Friday, says the couple had thought they were "in our worst nightmare but now it just keeps getting worse and worse."

UPDATE:

New reports indicate the McCanns must get out of Portugal as the authorities may be preparing to arrest them. Despite earlier reports that the blood found in the rental car was Madeleine's, other reports now claim it's impossible to determine of the blood even belongs to a male or female.

FORENSIC EVIDENCE 'A BLUFF'

Forensic evidence against Kate and Gerry McCann is inconclusive and is being overplayed by Portuguese detectives.

Blood spots found in their rented car were microscopic and the quality so poor that experts could not even say whether they came from a boy or a girl. The revelations add to concern that Portuguese police are trying to “bluff” a confession from the McCanns, who strenuously deny killing their daughter Madeleine...

Senior detectives in the Algarve are preparing to press charges against the McCanns, both 39, as early as tomorrow and will attempt to keep the couple behind bars until the trial...The couple have been in close contact with the Foreign Office, who have offered them full support. Scotland Yard detectives are concerned about the quality of forensic evidence and what weight to attach to it.

A Portuguese-speaking Yard detective has been working closely with police in Portugal and feeding information back to senior officers in London.

A source said: “The Yard believes if this had been handled properly from the outset there would have been a lot more forensic evidence to work with. “The room where Madeleine was taken should not have been rented out and there should have been a lock down at the complex until police had checked guests. The crime scene was trampled all over.” Kate’s uncle yesterday insisted: “She has nothing to fear. She has nothing to hide.”

The McCanns return to England. Thank goodness.

Emotional return for McCanns

Kate carried one of their two-year-old twins, Amelie, while Gerry held onto Sean, who was fast asleep on his father's shoulder, the little boy blissfully unaware of the media attention focused on his parents as they stepped on to British soil.

Kate McCann looked tired and drawn as they stood before a gathering of journalists at the foot of the steps. Gerry was prompted by an airport representative to read the words he had prepared for the waiting press...

But he emphasised that, although the decision to return to their home in Rothley in Leicestershire was tough, it didn't mean they were giving up their search for Madeleine...The couple then had to buckle the twins into seats in a car waiting next to the plane on the runway. There were an uncomfortable few moments as Mrs McCann, her hands shaking, tried to complete the regular task, as clicking cameras peered down on the mundane activity.

Despite being formal suspects in the Portuguese investigation and after many hours of police questioning in recent days, there are no bail conditions.

They have been allowed to keep their passports and the McCanns' spokeswoman, Justine McGuinness, said their departure had been agreed by the Portuguese authorities.

I'm sure it was. Well, at least I know where I won't be visiting any time soon. Let's all add Portugal to Aruba as places with corrupt systems and unsafe for families.
