One of the Best Moments in Baseball History

32 years ago Friday, Rick Monday saved the American flag from being burned at Dodger Stadium. It is another beautiful weekend as it was so long ago, and while baseball has changed, our commitment to the flag and all she stands for has not. (HT Ed at Hot Air).

Freedom Tower Plans Found In Trash

freedom-tower-1.jpg

We can thank a homeless man for finding them and turning them in. These plans, as you can imagine, are confidential and reveal the nature of the Freedom Tower schematics. Considering we're speaking about a new building that terrorists would also want to destroy, there's a reason these support and constructions details are supposed to be secret.

That homeless New Yorker should be given a new life, help for whatever has made him homeless, medical care for addiction, money, a free apartment, whatever he needs as a thank you for coming forward with this.

Report: NYC Freedom Tower plans found in trash

NEW YORK - A homeless man has come forward with two sets of confidential ground zero blueprints that he says were dumped in a Lower Manhattan trash can.

The man brought the Freedom Tower plans to the New York Post, which says the 150-page schematic is marked: "Secure Document — Confidential."

The documents are dated Oct. 5, 2007. They contain plans for each floor, the thickness of the concrete-core wall, and the location of air ducts, elevators, electrical systems and support columns.

The Brits Want Thatcher Back

MTPhoto.jpg

So, the Germans elect conservative, pro-America Merkel, the French elect conservative, pro-America Sarkozy and now the English want Margaret Thatcher back.

And the Left wants you to think the world hates us, as Obama and Clinton keep talking about 'repairing our image with the world.' I like it the way it is, thank you very much.

Margaret Thatcher 'would win election today'

Margaret Thatcher at her peak would sweep to power in a general election held today, according to an opinion poll for The Daily Telegraph.

The YouGov survey emphatically confirms the enduring political appeal of the country's first woman prime minister, who left office undefeated 18 years ago.

Baroness Thatcher comfortably surpassed Tony Blair when people were asked who they would pick to lead the country at the height of their powers if they had the choice. David Cameron, the Conservative leader, trailed far behind both - but was still ahead of Gordon Brown.

Almost two thirds of Tory voters said they would prefer Lady Thatcher to the current party leader...the Thatcherite legacy continues to shape Britain. It shifted the political axis from state-centred collectivism to private enterprise and the free market, forcing Labour to abandon old-style socialism.

Brava. And the world thanks and owes you a debt of gratitude, Lady Thatcher.

Charleton Heston Has Died

heston3.jpg

He was one of the good ones, a man reminding us of an era when being proud individualists and being an American First was what defined us. We're working to bring that back and we can point to men like Heston, John Wayne and Ronald Reagan for inspiration on our journey.

Charleton Heston, 83, Actor Played Larger-Than-Life Figures

Charlton Heston, the Oscar-winning actor who achieved stardom playing larger-than-life figures including Moses, Michelangelo and Andrew Jackson in historical epics and went on to become a best-selling author, a contentious Hollywood labor leader, an unapologetic gun advocate and darling of conservative causes, has died. He was 83.

Heston died Saturday at his Beverly Hills home, his family said in a statement. In 2002, he had been diagnosed with symptoms similar to those of Alzheimer's disease.

With a booming baritone voice, the tall, ruggedly handsome actor delivered his signature role as the prophet Moses in Cecil B. DeMille's 1956 Biblical extravaganza "The Ten Commandments," raising a rod over his head as God miraculously parts the Red Sea...

"I don't seem to fit really into the 20th century," Heston said in a 1965 interview. "Pretty soon, though, I've got to get a part where I wear pants with pleats and pockets."

Heston stunned the entertainment world in August 2002 when he made a poignant and moving videotaped address announcing his illness.

A few days after his dramatic announcement, Heston would sit down for an interview in his beloved Coldwater Canyon home, which he always said "Ben-Hur" had built, and faced the uncertain future with brave resolve and a sense of humor.

"The world is a tough place," he said with a chuckle. "You're never going to get out of it alive."

Late in life, Heston's stature as a political firebrand overshadowed his acting. He became demonized by gun control advocates and liberal Hollywood when he became president of the National Rifle Assn. in 1998...

A 'darling' for us, indeed, but the loss of a man who fought for everyone's civil rights is a loss for all, whether some understand that or not. Thank you Mr. Heston, and God rest your soul.

Nancy Reagan Endorses McCain

Ron and Nancy

I miss them.

Some may say this is to be expected considering he has an (R) after his name, but the truth is she doesn't have to endorse anyone and yet she did. While I respect this endorsement more than others, McCain still needs to somehow find the will, the courage, the discipline, the respect, whatever you call it, to speak directly to us, Independent Conservatives, and explain why we should vote for him. For me, Mrs. Reagan's endorsement is nice, but not enough.

Nancy Reagan to Endorse McCain

Former first lady Nancy Reagan planned to endorse John McCain for president on Tuesday, as the Arizona senator continued to collect the backing of leading Republicans who might help him win over critical conservative voters...In a statement before the event, Reagan said she typically waits until after the GOP convention to announce her support but she decided to do so now because it is clear the Republican Party has chosen its nominee.

"John McCain has been a good friend for over thirty years," Reagan said. "My husband and I first came to know him as a returning Vietnam War POW, and were impressed by the courage he had shown through his terrible ordeal. I believe John's record and experience have prepared him well to be our next president."

Texas Teen Second Woman To Receive Silver Star

mlbrown.jpg

Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown is the second woman since World War II to be awarded the Silver Star.

And for some reason, the out-of-touch, some in uniform some not, still argue women shouldn't be in combat. In this instance, a woman in combat saved the lives of five fellow troops. Now tell me again what the problems are with women on the front lines?

Woman Earns Silver Star in Afghan War

CAMP SALERNO, Afghanistan (AP) — A 19-year-old medic from Texas will become the first woman in Afghanistan and only the second female soldier since World War II to receive the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest medal for valor.

Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers after a roadside bomb tore through a convoy of Humvees in the eastern Paktia province in April 2007, the military said. After the explosion, which wounded five soldiers in her unit, Brown ran through insurgent gunfire and used her body to shield wounded comrades as mortars fell less than 100 yards away, the military said.

Pentagon policy prohibits women from serving in front-line combat roles — in the infantry, armor or artillery, for example. But the nature of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, with no real front lines, has seen women soldiers take part in close-quarters combat more than previous conflicts.

The military said Brown's "bravery, unselfish actions and medical aid rendered under fire saved the lives of her comrades and represents the finest traditions of heroism in combat."

Brava Monica. Brava. And a heartfelt thanks to the Brown family for raising such a remarkable young woman.

A Father's Instinct

I declare this man Father of the Year.

Sheriff: Man killed motorcyclist who followed daughters

A man is facing a murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed a motorcyclist who followed his daughters home from a department store.

Richard Harold Gear, 45, claimed he was acting in self-defense when he shot Bryan Joseph Mough around 6:45 p.m. Monday as Mough drove his motorcycle past Gear's house, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said.

The daughters, ages 17 and 19, had called their father on a cell phone to tell him they were being followed, Berry said. As they arrived home, Gear was waiting at the end of his driveway with a pistol, Berry said.

Mough, 21, drove past the house, turned around and made another pass. Gear fired his .40-caliber semiautomatic gun two or three times, hitting Mough once in the back, Berry said...Gear's daughters and Mough apparently left the parking lot of a Target in nearby Athens around the same time Monday evening, Berry said. Tempers flared as the drivers headed west toward Bogart.

Gear's daughters told investigators Mough cut them off, they made obscene gestures at him and Mough ran into their car at one point, Sheriff Berry said. "There is evidence of a collision between Mough's motorcycle and the vehicle operated by Gear's daughters," Berry said, adding authorities do not yet know who initiated contact.

UPDATE:

Ironically, this thread has generated a lot of comments from newbies who condemn me for supporting a man who in this initial story seems to be defending his daughters. These same people who decry my lack of sensitivity then threaten to kill me, wish someone would kill me, or at the very least, rape me. Impressive. Obviously all of those people are banned. This blog is a place for opinion, and the Comments section is the perfect place for people to challenge that opinion and post their own. Threatening to kill me does not constitute having an 'opinion.' It just makes you a shallow, reactionary hypocrite. You do lose just a tad of credibility when you issue threats of violence because I lauded a father apparently defending his daughters. If the story ends up being different, we'll have it here.

In the meantime, we have have the initial coverage above, and we have the following story in Comments from MobileData. I'm sure we'll hear more depending on what the sheriff does.

Sheriff: Man allegedly shot at teens in 2006

Oconee County investigators are taking a fresh look at 2-year-old allegations a Bogart man fired a gun at a group of teens, after he shot and killed a motorcyclist in front of his house this week.

Authorities didn't charge Richard "Ricky" Harold Gear at the time because they couldn't prove he fired a gun, and witnesses were "less than truthful" about what happened, Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said Wednesday.

The sheriff's office will reinvestigate that shooting in light of Gear's claim that he acted in self-defense when he shot 21-year-old Bryan Joseph "B.J." Mough on Monday after Mough argued with Gear's daughters in traffic and followed them home...

"This case, like most cases, generates a lot of comments from the public," the sheriff said. "We're still working hard on it, and we're going to follow all leads to their logical conclusion."

Gear's daughters, 17 and 19, called their father Monday night to tell him that someone was following them; when they arrived home, Gear was waiting at the end of the driveway with a .40-caliber semiautomatic pistol, Berry said.

Mough drove by the house, turned around, and Gear shot two or three times as the motorcycle made a second pass, according to Berry.

Maldives Boy Scout Saves His President

Boy Scout saves Maldives president

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - A quick-thinking Boy Scout foiled an assassination attempt on the president of the Maldives on Tuesday, grabbing an attacker's knife as the man leapt from a crowd and lunged at the leader, an official said.

President Maumoon Gayoom was unhurt, but his shirt was ripped as the attacker tried a second time to stab him before being overpowered by security guards, government spokesman Mohammed Shareef said.

"One brave boy saved the president's life," he said.

Mohammed Jaisham Ibrahim, wearing his blue Maldives scout uniform with a blue kerchief, was standing in the crowd to greet Gayoom on Hoarafushi, one of the 1,190 coral islands in the Indian Ocean that make up the Maldives.

The attacker hid a knife in the Maldivian flag as he awaited Gayoom's arrival, then lunged at the president, Shareef said.

Ibrahim reached out and grabbed the blade, and he was cut on the hand, according to the government.

"There was blood on the president's shirt, but it was not his but the boy's," Shareef said.

Wow.

Armed Customer Stops Robbery

This, folks, is what happens when the law-abiding have guns.

Customer pulls gun, stops robbery

It was a busy night Monday at Buck's IGA on the 3000 block of South Meridian Street. "Charlie," who didn't want his image or name used with this story, was in line to check out.

A man police later identified as Dwain Smith reportedly ran into the store wearing a ski mask and yelling. Cashier Dianna Brooks repeated what she says she heard. "I heard the guy say 'give me all your money' [...] Charlie says he responded immediately. "When I heard it I automatically took mine (gun) out." And Charlie says he was ready to act. "If he had raised it (gun) up yes I would have shot him."

"He was turning against the other woman. He didn't actually see me coming up at first and then when he did, he turned around and I yelled at him to put down his weapon," Charile explained...

Charlie says was face to face with the suspect. "He just stare and looked at me for a minute. I cocked it back and then, all of a sudden, he laid it down on the counter and put all the money down." [...]

When police arrived, Charlie had the suspect on the floor. "(I) just held him until the police got there. (I) put my foot in his back and the gun to his head."

Bravo.

Ambassador John Bolton My Guest Today on KABC

boltonaei.jpg

Ambassador John Bolton will join me at the top of the 3pm PT (6pm ET) hour today about the Bhutto assassination. Right after the ambassador Claudia Rossett comes on to share her perspective.

boltonbook.jpg

Ambassador Bolton also has a new book out. We'll discuss "Surrender Is Not an Option: Defending America at the United Nations and Abroad." Here's a summary:

With no-holds-barred candor, the straight-talking former ambassador to the United Nations takes readers behind the scenes at the U.N. and the U.S. State Department and reveals why his efforts to defend American interests and reform the U.N. resulted in controversy. A veteran of three Republican administrations and a nominee for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, Bolton shows how the U.S. can lead the way to a more realistic global security arrangement for the twenty-first century and identifies the next generation of threats to America...

In this revealing memoir, he candidly recounts his appointment in 2005 as Ambassador to the United Nations, his headline-making Senate confirmation battle, which resulted in his recess appointment, and his sixteen-month tenure at the United Nations. Bolton offers keen insight into such international crises as North Korea's nuclear test, Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons, the genocide in Darfur, the month-long negotiation that produced the controversial end of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, and more. Recounting both his successes and frustrations in taking a hard line against weapons of mass destruction proliferators, terrorists, and rogue states such as North Korea and Iran, he also exposes the operational inadequacies that hinder the U.N.'s effectiveness in international diplomacy and its bias against Israel and the United States. At home, he criticizes the pernicious bureaucratic inertia in the U.S. State Department that can undermine presidential policy.

Tancredo To Drop Out of Presidential Race

The man who single-handedly brought the illegal immigration debacle into the national spotlight will announce tomorrow he is dropping out of the presidential race. I've met Tom on a number of occasions, and he's been a guest on my show many times. Regardless of whether or not you agree with his politics, I can tell you he's a great guy. He truly cares about our nation and I know whatever he chooses to do, he'll make a difference.

Tom Tancredo to Drop Out of Presidential Race

Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo plans to drop out of the race during an announcement Thursday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa, GOP sources close to the campaign have told FOX News.

Tancredo, who has aggressively pushed his anti-illegal immigration message throughout the GOP primary race, has not been able to break through in the polls against his better known competitors. He and California Rep. Duncan Hunter typically poll in the single digits behind Texas Rep. Ron Paul in national surveys.

Tancredo would not personally confirm whether he will pull out of the race.

“I will neither confirm nor deny that report,” Tancredo told FOX News. But he added, “I wouldn’t have a press conference if I didn’t have anything to say.”

Another stalwart on illegal immigration, Rep. Peter King of New York, endorsed Fred Thompson this week. The question now becomes, who will Tom endorse? My guess is Thompson as well.

Tom has also announced he will not run for another term in the House. This does leave open, however, a run for the Senate. Let's hope he does, because no matter who is elected president in '08, illegal immigration will remain an issue, and we're going to need as many allies on the issue as possible in Congress.

The Woman With a Gun Who Saved Hundreds

assam.jpg

Hero Jeanne Assam

The woman security officer who took shooter Matthew Murray at the New Life Church has been identified. What a perfect example of how firearms, and God, are an excellent defense in the face of an armed beast.

Heroic church guard: 'It was just me, the gunman and God'

"It was just me, the gunman and God," said the heroic church security guard who stopped a hate-fueled rampage by shooting a gunman dead Sunday.

Jeanne Assam, 42, a member of New Life Church, said she remained calm and focused by putting her faith in God during the intense, ear-splitting gunfight in Colorado Springs.

Armed with a handgun, she calmly confronted Matthew J. Murray, 24, who was armed with an assault rifle, two handguns and 1,000 rounds of ammunition, police said.

"It was scary," the former Twin Cities patrol officer said this afternoon at a Colorado Springs news conference. "I'll never forget the guns were so loud."

"But ... God was with me and I asked him to be with me. And he never left my side," she said.

Brava to Ms. Assam for staying focused and calm, stopping what would have been an even more horrific massacre. May God rest the souls of those murdered by Murray on Sunday.

Other updates include more information about Murray's motive. Rev. Boyd's comments that the attack was "random" appears now to not be the case.

Man Suspected Of Colorado Shootings Was Thrown Out Of Missionary School

December 10, 2007)—The man suspected of the deadly shootings Sunday at a missionary training center in a Denver, Colo. suburb and a megachurch in Colorado Springs was thrown out of the missionary school, court documents show.

The suspected gunman is identified as Matthew Murray, 24, who was shot and killed by a female volunteer security guard at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs after killing two teenage sisters and wounding the girls’ father and two other people.

Documents show Murray sent hate mail to the missionary center after he was kicked out of the school about three years ago.

Hero Paul Tibbets, Pilot of Enola Gay, Dies

Paul Tibbets

Then-Colonel Paul Tibbets with the Enola Gay

Paul Tibbets, the man who helped to end World War 2 by piloting the plane the dropped the bomb on Hiroshima has died at the age of 92. Tibbets remained throughout his life a man who knew the importance of his act, and had no regrets. Thank you General Tibbets and may God rest your soul.
Pilot of plane that dropped A-bomb dies

Paul Tibbets, who piloted the B-29 bomber Enola Gay that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, died Thursday. He was 92 and insisted for six decades after the war that he had no regrets about the mission and slept just fine at night.

Tibbets' historic mission in the plane named for his mother marked the beginning of the end of World War II and eliminated the need for what military planners feared would have been an extraordinarily bloody invasion of Japan. It was the first use of a nuclear weapon in wartime.

And they had reason to fear. You know how we cringe, appropriately, at the over 4,000 troops lost since the liberation of Afghanistan and Iraq. In the one month battle for the Japanese island of Okinowa, the United States and our allies (the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) suffered these stunning casualty numbers:

12,513 dead or missing,
38,916 wounded,
33,096 non-combat losses,
79 ships sunk and scrapped,
763 aircraft destroyed

12,513 dead in one month. For one island. Yes, invading Japan would have been a human bloodbath beyond comprehension. The dropping of the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki saved truly countless lives, on both sides.

Here is a clip from the video "Atomic Cafe" featuring Paul Tibbets and his recounting of his mission piloting the Enola Gay.

Atlas Shrugged: A Movie??

Ayn Rand

A post by Maynard

Are all you boys and girls familiar with Ayn Rand? She's best known for her amazing novels, first The Fountainhead and then Atlas Shrugged. I read them during my formative years, and they put subversive ideas into my head. Rand's philosophy is worthy of contemplation, whether or not you ultimately agree with it. Her books are important because her voice is unique.

People feel strongly about Ayn Rand. Mention her name and you'll often get a knee-jerk reaction, either very positive or very negative. Personally I'm in the positive camp, but with a caveat that will offend True Believers. Rand was a genius, but her vision was warped by personal limitations. She brilliantly illuminated the sadistic and suicidal inclinations inherent to leftist ideology. Her books contain savagely accurate depictions of the social and legal coercions through which we forfeit our joys and bind each other in pacts of mutual misery. However, her concept of a better world was flawed. The heroes of her drama work together in ways that such driven, prickly people would not do in real life. Indeed, this is the core political problem that we who favor individual liberty face: The collectivists have a natural tendency to organize and act in unison, whereas we are inclined to go our own ways. Their job is to herd sheep; we try to herd cats. Ours is an uphill battle.

It's also worth mentioning that Rand was strongly atheistic. She believed — and I would argue with this philosophical premise — that all knowledge could be objectively obtained. It's clear to me that objectivity is inadequate; we must seek a transcendental philosophy in order to pursue meaning. And we are not, nor can we ever be, objective creatures. We are fundamentally subjective in some essential ways. Herein lies an argument that we can pursue endlessly, so I'd better put it aside.

Not surprisingly, it turns out that Ayn Rand's personal life was clouded by turmoil. She was doomed either to dominate people close to her (as she did with her husband) or drive them away (as she did with Nathaniel Branden).

(My comments about Rand's personal life may be considered controversial by some. For further reading, check out Barbara Branden's fascinating biography, The Passion of Ayn Rand.)

There are reports of an Atlas Shrugged movie under development. Of course, since Hollywood is a rumor-plagued and rumor-driven community, rumors don't necessarily mean anything. But the linked article gives some interesting background and discussion on the circumstances surrounding this project.

On Tammy Radio: Jim Brossard, The Vet Who Cut Down The Mexican Flag

renoflag.jpg

Thanks to Jim, that Mexican flag is down, and the Stars and Stripes is back to her rightful place.

UPDATE: Finally more national attention. Here's video of Jim on Fox's Neil Cavuto show.

In an act of great patriotism, Jim Brossard, Vietnam vet and bus driver in Reno, Nevada, took personal action when he saw a Mexican flag flying over the Stars and Stripes, which is in fact a federal crime. Jim decided that couldn't stand, so he cut the Mexican flag down. It is this sort of individual act, simple and right, symbolic and actual, that has kept Old Glory flying throughout our history. We salute Jim, and thank him from the bottom of our hearts.

Here is Channel 4 KRNV's original coverage of the incident, and click here for video of Jim and the situation at Breitbart.

I noted on the air today that Ahmadinejad is a symptom and a distraction from the real issue--the reaction of Americans to this sort of situation. America has defeated worse tyrants and we'll defeat this one, our true concern must be defeating the American Left who will always be any enemy's Fifth Column.

John Bolton is a reminder that we have good men out there who are determined to be heard and will speak the truth, clearly and without apology. Thank goodness. Video HT to another good man, Charles at LGF. It's 7 minute piece but an excellent discussion assessing the last couple of days.

What Makes America Different

Are people like Randy Pausch, a Carnegie Mellon University computer-science professor. Professor Pausch is dying of cancer, and recently participated in the "Last Lecture Series." Pausch's choice of topic, his hope and optimism is an inspiration and a reminder of what makes our nation different--the nature of Americans. It's a reminder to us about what really matters, the importance of being grateful, and the beauty of the lives we have. Click the link for the complete story and video of his lecture. (HT to MIchelle via Powerline).

A Beloved Professor Delivers The Lecture of a Lifetime

...They had come to see him give what was billed as his "last lecture." This is a common title for talks on college campuses today. Schools such as Stanford and the University of Alabama have mounted "Last Lecture Series," in which top professors are asked to think deeply about what matters to them and to give hypothetical final talks. For the audience, the question to be mulled is this: What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance?...

At Carnegie Mellon, however, Dr. Pausch's speech was more than just an academic exercise. The 46-year-old father of three has pancreatic cancer and expects to live for just a few months. His lecture, using images on a giant screen, turned out to be a rollicking and riveting journey through the lessons of his life...

Congressional Trailblazer Jennifer Dunn Dead at 66

DunnPic.jpg

Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn

In addition to the unexpected death of Representative Paul Gillmor of Ohio, it is now being reported that former Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn of Washington has died after suffering a pulmonary embolism.

Dunn, a Republican, was considered a fiscal conservative but a social moderate, and her political career was marked by a number of firsts for women. Jennifer Dunn was the sort of principled person rarely seen in congress. We certainly could use of few more women (and men) like her right now.

Former Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn dies at 66

Jennifer Dunn, a former six-term member of Congress, former chairwoman of the Washington State Republican Party and one of the state GOP's most respected members, died Wednesday, her family announced. She was 66.

A statement issued by the office of her son, King County Councilman Reagan Dunn, said, "Jennifer collapsed from a pulmonary embolism in her Alexandria, Va., apartment and never regained consciousness. She passed peacefully surrounded by family." [...]

As her son noted, Ms. Dunn's political career was a series of firsts: first woman to head the state Republican Party, first freshman woman to win a place in the House Republican leadership team, and subsequently the highest-ranking Republican woman in caucus leadership as vice chairwoman of the House Republican Conference.

She was solidly conservative, but mainly on fiscal issues and much less so on the religious right's agenda of social issues. She was quietly pro-choice on abortion...Her legislative work included the Amber Alert program; tax relief, particularly elimination of the estate tax; expansion of free and fair international trade; welfare reform; overhauling the tax code; high-tech policy; and retirement security.

But for all her legislative and political triumphs, what Jennifer Dunn was most proud of was her family. She delighted in talking of the successes of her sons, Bryant Dunn, Reagan Dunn and Angus Thomson.

Survivors include her husband, Keith Thomson; two sons, Bryant Dunn and Reagan Dunn; a stepson, Angus Thomson, and two grandchildren.

An editorial in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer notes this:

Dunn was serious about the role of a legislator in a democracy championing positions from tax policy to technology issues. Welfare reform was fashioned by Dunn in a subcommittee in 1996 -- a bill that she called "a fabulous, fabulously successful piece of legislation."

When she retired from Congress, Dunn said, "While I never took a pledge on term limits, I do believe that our nation is better served if from time to time we senior members step aside to allow individuals with fresh ideas to challenge the status quo in Congress."

Dunn died too young -- and had much left to contribute to society. Her voice will be missed.

Indeed.

Richard Jewell, Hero But Falsely Accused As Olympic Bomber, Dead

Richard Jewell

Richard Jewell has been found dead in his home at the age of 44. Jewell was in fact a hero by noticing the suspicious backpack left in Olympic Park, giving people enough warning and moving them out of the way, saving countless lives. Yet, even in today's headlines, the fact that the FBI let leak that he was a (convenient) suspect forever tragically overshadowed his heroism.

Richard Jewell, Wrongly Accused in Atlanta Olympics Bombing, Dead at 44

ATLANTA — Richard Jewell, the former security guard who was erroneously linked to the 1996 Olympic bombing, died Wednesday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Jewell, 44, was found dead in his west Georgia home, GBI spokesman John Bankhead said. "There's no suspicion whatsoever of any type of foul play. He had been at home sick since the end of February with kidney problems," said Meriwether County Coroner Johnny Worley.

Last year, Jewell have the AP an interview which detailed the damage done to the man because , IMHO, the FBI gave the media a suspect in an attempt to quell the fears of the Olympics-attending public. Jewell was that sacrificial lamb and another travesty of the Clinton/Reno Department of Justice.

How You Can Help The Burned Iraqi Boy

youssif.jpg

Youssif, before and after the attack.

The story of the boy set on fire by "masked men" in Iraq was heartbreaking. While CNN and other new outlets euphemise the attackers, the brutal, mindless torture bears all the hallmarks of al-Qaida,

The good news today is, thanks to a children's burn charity, Youssif is going to get a second chance, and you can help make the difference.

Help is on the way for Youssif

The Children's Burn Foundation -- a non-profit organization based out of Sherman Oaks, California, that provides support for burn victims locally, nationally and internationally -- has agreed to pay for the transportation for Youssif and his family to come to the United States and to set up a fund so you can donate. The foundation says it will cover all medical costs -- from surgeries for Youssif to housing costs to any social rehabilitation that might be needed for him. Surgeries will be performed by Dr. Peter Grossman, a plastic surgeon with the affiliated-Grossman Burn Center who is donating his services for Youssif's cause.

Officials are still trying to get the appropriate visas for his travels. Youssif could be in the United States for up to a year for the various treatments he needs.

When informed of the news in Baghdad, Youssif ran around his house, saying, "Daddy, daddy, am I really going to get on a plane?!"

Youssif's father was also cheered by the news. "I feel like I am going to fly from happiness," his father told CNN's Arwa Damon, who reported the story on what happened to Youssif.

Here's the Children's Burn Center site if you would like to make a donation. Under "Honor/Memorial Gift Information" there's a drop down menu for Youssif's fund.

Anti-Jihad Squirrels Nabbed by Iran

angrysquirrel.jpg

After all my reporting of Jihadi Squirrels, we finally have proof that just because all Jihadi Squirrels are squirrels, does not mean all squirrels are Jihadis.

Iran-US Face-Off goes Sci-Fi: Spy Squirrels and Godly UFOs

According to IRNA, the official Islamic Republic news agency, the national Police chief has implicitly verified the news about the confiscation of a number of squirrels, equipped with eavesdropping devices, on the Iranian borders. He has declined to give any more details, but, reportedly, when asked about the confiscation of 14 spy squirrels, he stated, “I have heard about it, but I do not have precise information”. IRNA adds, “These squirrels were equipped by foreign intelligence services, but were captured two weeks ago by the Police”.

Yes, the most thankless job in war--"Spy," the nameless and faceless, obviously even without the benefit of even being human, these brave rodent-ish like creatures have risked all to make it clear that some squirrels won't put up with their entire species being hijacked by a few crazy violent freaks who dream of Squirrel World Conquest.

Now if only squirrels we know, in every day life, would come out and be as vocal against those who give all squirrels a bad name. But for now, we'll have to just imagine who these brave souls are. Er, were. (HT Hot Air).

Your Daily Reagan

A quote with special resonance for today.

"Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith. "

Our Senate Heroes

sessions.jpgvitter.jpg

demint.jpg

Senators Sessions, Vitter and DeMInt

Now that we finally have some closure on this debacle, there are a few heroes who now deserve a great deal of thanks. Calling is one thing, but you may want to actually send a snail-mail card. With emails these days, it's rare to receive a hand-written note. However you choose to thank them. let them know you're grateful for their standing up against what must have been incredible pressure, Dems and Repubs alike.

The men who we could count on from the outset, who were vocal when they did not have to be, and stayed vocal, are: GOP Sens. David Vitter of Louisiana, Jim DeMint of South Carolina and Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

senator_mccaskill.jpg

And as a Democrat I'm thrilled I can point to Claire McCaskill the Democratic Senator from Missouri . She was always reasonable and steadfast. She appeared on Lou Dobbs speaking articulately against the bill. She was vocal and public when she did not have to be. Reid will make her pay for that. You should see McCaskill as another hero, a senator who stood up for what is right despite the pressure she was placed under. Make sure she knows she's not alone and you appreciate the stand she took.

Here again is the Senate page with all contact information, including snail mail addresses. Make sure the heroes, and any other senator you want to thank, hears from you.

Your Weekend Reagan

reagan22new.jpg

"The house we hope to build is not for my generation but for yours. It is your future that matters. And I hope that when you are my age, you will be able to say as I have been able to say: We lived in freedom. We lived lives that were a statement, not an apology."

Your Daily Reagan

reagansatranch.jpg

The President and Mrs. Reagan at the front door of the ranch house.

With how late I've been, maybe I should call it Your Evening Reagan! I just get caught up in so many things, I turn around and the next thing I know it's dark outside. I hope you don't mind. I promise to make a concerted effort to post the Reagan before Tammy Radio.

Today, for your Daily Reagan I'm posting the link to the Young America Foundation's page for the Reagan Ranch and their new Reagan Ranch Center. I can't tell you how moved I was by my visit to the ranch. If you haven't done so already, get to know the YAF. They are helping to keep the legacy of President Reagan alive for all of us.

House Repubs Offer Anti-Amnesty Bill

When it comes to the Amnesty Bill and the contempt with which the senate and White House have exhibited for us, I know it seems like we've been in a wormhole somewhere. So thank goodness we have a sign that not every in Washington has been replaced by a Pod Person. This action, plus the passing of Rep. and presidential candidate Tom Tancredo's anti-sanctuary city amendment, it seems like we just might have people in congress who haven't abandoned the principles of our great nation.

Now, let the games begin!

House Republicans introduce their own immigration bill
The measure, a rebuke to Bush, would bar amnesty for illegal immigrants and require legal-status checks for all workers.

In a sharp rebuke to President Bush, House Republicans today introduced their own immigration reform and border security bill, a tough measure that would bar illegal immigrants from gaining legal status, require employers to check the legal status of all workers and make English the nation's official language.

The Secure Borders First Act stresses operational control over the border as one of its core principles. The bill would reject "amnesty" and insist that the administration do more to enforce existing laws.
