The Audacity of Not Keeping His Mouth Shut

wright.jpg

Wright at the National Press Club

I know I'm not the only one not impressed by Obama's oddly late repudiation of Jeremiah Wright. After all, he knew of the “divisive and destructive,” “ridiculous,” “outrageous” and “wrong” paranoid and hate-based Wright comments long ago. When he first addressed the issue he further embraced Wright in the famous Gramma-Under-the-Bus speech. Now, when Wright had the audacity of not keeping his mouth shut, Barry decides that he can disown a man he suddenly realized his father-figure for all his adult life "gives comfort to those who prey on hate."

My question is this: If Barack Obama had no idea what his father-figure's intentions and beliefs were after two-decades plus of knowing him, how can we trust this man to be able to assess the intention of men like Ahmadinejad and Jong-Il? One of two things is happening here: Either Obama truly is clueless and completely unable to judge people, or he feels a kinship with those who are bitter, angry and hate this nation. In his own life we have his bitter and recriminating wife, Wright, and unrepentant terrorist Ayers. On the international scene Obama has already expressed an interest in establishing talkative, friendly relationships with the world's monsters.

In the meantime, word is slipping out from Wright's friends that he didn't intend to hurt Obama, he was just hurt and lashing out in the moment. I guess that makes everything okay. But it does make us question if it's a good idea to have a man in the White House who has such a vengeful and hateful father-figure in the wings always ready to strike out. Really, is this a soap opera we need in the White House during a time of war?

Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church said he has been speaking to both men as the events of the past 24 hours unfolded. He counseled Obama Tuesday morning, and while CBS 2 talked to him Tuesday evening, Rev. Wright called his cell phone. "I don't think he had any intention to hurt Barack. He loves Barack," Pfleger said. "I think the pain and the moment took over." That moment was in a place Pfleger called "a lion's den" – The National Press Club.

Yeah, the pain of not having the Man Who Would Be President be subservient and respectful to you? All of these people are reaping the rewards of living in a world of contempt and bitterness. What do they want from each other? Emotional healthy response from each other?

Whether his problem is a pathological inability to see bad people for who they are (and good people for that matter, too. His issue is very probably a Malignant Narcissistic lack of empathy, an inability to comprehend the feelings and motives of others), or identifying sympathetically with those who hate this country, we and he are in trouble.

Clinton Tax Returns Released

bill-uae.jpg

Clinton with the Emir of Dubai, arguably his most important employer?

We're just starting to get some information, and let's just say there are more questions than answers.

Most had thought the Clinton's made $50 million since Billy Jeff left office. Not so. The Clintons' joint return more like $109.2 million in the last 7 years.

More soon...

OK, the return for 2007 isn't a return at all--it's a "summary." And they've actually asked for an extension of time to file for 2007. How strange when you have a team of people doing your taxes for you. It's not as though Hill and Bill sit around the kitchen table trying to figure out their taxes after working a 10 hour day and helping the kids with homework. They have released a summary of returns for years past, however, with the Clintons' joint returns reveal their making more than $109 million in the past seven years. And to think Hillary complains about the oil companies their their profits!

Most are noting the most interesting thing, the source(s) of $18 million in income left unaccounted for.

One thing we do know, and I've noted many times on Tammy radio, is the cozy financial relationship between Bill Clinton and the Dubai and United Arab Emirates. Back in 2006, Newsmax reported on part of that relationship.

Dubai's 'Boycott Israel' Sheik Funded Bill Clinton

Former President Bill Clinton has accepted at least $1.6 million from the United Arab Emirates, including $300,000 from a Dubai sheik who adamantly backs the country's controversial boycott of Israel.

On Jan. 17, 2002, Mr. Clinton was paid $300,000 to address the Science, Technology and Arts Royal Summit in Dubai at the invitation of Crown Prince and U.A.E. Defense Minister Sheik Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum...Mr. Clinton accepted another $300,000 from the Dubai regime for a speech in 2005. And his presidential library in Little Rock has collected seven-figure sums from several Arab governments participating in the anti-Israel boycott, including Dubai.

In September 2005, the New York Sun reported:

"When the library opened last year, a computer display in the exhibit halls included information on some, but not all, donors. The Saudi Royal Family and the governments of Dubai, Kuwait, and Qatar all gave $1 million or more."

That's just the tip of the iceberg. The relevant question is, how much money have the Clintons received via Bill from the Islamist sheiks of Dubai, and when did they start receiving it?

The Pig Book--How Politicians Are Wasting Our Money

bigpig.jpg

Citizens Against Government Waste has released its annual listing of how politicians are wasting our tax dollars on ridiculous pet projects. And to think its these same people who somehow found the time to take their hands out of our pockets to condemn the oil industry which at least makes their profits fairly and legitimately

Annual 'Pig Book' Sees Steep Rise in Number of Lawmakers' Pet Projects

Another attempt to put a moratorium on earmarks — local pet projects slipped into legislation —- failed Wednesday, a day after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi insisted that an earmark freeze was still a possibility. The House voted against a Republican-backed plan 215 to 199.

Republicans timed their effort to coincide with the release of the annual Congressional Pig Book, distributed by the watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste. The pig book details pork-barrel spending and was rolled out with pig-costumed staffers pushing barrels.

Overall pork barrel spending went up 30 percent in the 2008 fiscal year and the number of pet projects jumped by 337 percent — to more than 11,600. The cost of all the earmarked projects was $17.2 billion

According to the book, the top three lawmakers slipping pet projects into bills are all Republicans on the Senate Appropriations Committee — Sens. Thad Cochran of Mississippi with $892 million; Ted Stevens of Alaska with $469 million and Richard Shelby of Alabama with $465 million.

So the Big Three are Republicans. I think this is a perfect of illustration of what I mean when I say politicians are all the same, and a politician having an (R) after his or her name no longer automatically means they're a conservative.

Some of the more absurd uses of our tax dollars?

$1.9 million for the Charles B. Rangel Center for Public Service at The City College of New York. The project was slipped into the Labor/Health and Human Services spending bill by none other than Rep. Charles B. Rangel, the Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

$188,000 for the Lobster Institute in Maine. This was added by Maine's Republican Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, along with Rep. Thomas Allen. It is said to be a cooperative program of "research and education with the lobster industry." Among other programs, the institute has been working on an underwater "lobster cam" and touts one of its achievements as the creation of lobster biscuits for dogs.

As for the presidential candidates, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton is listed as being named on 281 earmarks, among them $390,000 for jazz music at Lincoln Center. The other Democrat in the race, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, is listed on 52 earmarks, including $1.6 million for the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. The aquarium receives 2 million visitors a year and has 36 corporate backers.

Arizona Sen. John McCain, the expected Republican presidential nominee, did not request any earmarks this year. He issued a statement instead lauding CAGW for issuing the book.

I must say, I'm impressed. Good for him.

Obama's Lack of Respect for the National Anthem

Now makes a bit more sense with the Jeremiah Wright background. If you haven't seen it before, here's video of him refusing to place his hand over his heart for the anthem. It's an easy thing to do, and reflects a very certain respect for this nation. To not engage in such a small gesture of respect is petty and illustrates a remarkable contempt. Interestingly, it also seems he feels the need to protect his gonads from the anthem. Yeah, let's elect this guy.

Obama's Speech

I find him arrogant, pretentious and manipulative. I also now believe he's more comfortable with pretending than with the truth, and I think this speech embodies all those concerns.

Drudge has the full text.
I'll have more soon and of course we'll starts Tammy Radio this morning with my assessment of this attempt to explain how and why we shouldn't care that this man's mentor for his entire adult life is an America-hating racist and how Barack never, never knew.

Yeah, right.

Frankly, I think Michelle Obama should be giving this speech. We'd at least get a peek at the truth.

8:09am PT:

Here's what he just noted which is quite remarkable and at the core of where he stands. So he compares his "white grandmother" to a man who says American created the AIDS virus to genocide black Americans; that God should damn America; that the government funnels drugs deliberately into the black community; that Israel is a dirty word while inferring that Jews had something to do with 9-11. Amazing.

I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

These people are a part of me. And they are a part of America, this country that I love.

Some will see this as an attempt to justify or excuse comments that are simply inexcusable. I can assure you it is not. I suppose the politically safe thing would be to move on from this episode and just hope that it fades into the woodwork. We can dismiss Reverend Wright as a crank or a demagogue, just as some have dismissed Geraldine Ferraro, in the aftermath of her recent statements, as harboring some deep-seated racial bias.

But race is an issue that I believe this nation cannot afford to ignore right now. We would be making the same mistake that Reverend Wright made in his offending sermons about America – to simplify and stereotype and amplify the negative to the point that it distorts reality.

Stunning.

Oh, and now the Reagan Coalition was based in racism. Lovely.

Like the anger within the black community, these resentments aren’t always expressed in polite company. But they have helped shape the political landscape for at least a generation. Anger over welfare and affirmative action helped forge the Reagan Coalition. Politicians routinely exploited fears of crime for their own electoral ends. Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism.

Oh brother. He really must be afraid of losing what's termed the "black vote" when this issue and our rejection of him is actually the one colorblind thing in this entire debacle. Americans reject Jeremiah Wright's statements. That is what crosses racial lines, yet this morning Barack Obama begs people to return to the politics of race, to the division of Identity Politics.

This is nothing less than a Race/Class warfare speech with little bits of Let's-all-come-together-to-change-awful-evil-Amerikkka speech with some Corporations-Are-Evil and Workers-Unite! thrown in. Fascinatingly deeply held positions for a man who claimed to be the candidate who transcended race.

This time we want to talk about the shuttered mills that once provided a decent life for men and women of every race, and the homes for sale that once belonged to Americans from every religion, every region, every walk of life. This time we want to talk about the fact that the real problem is not that someone who doesn’t look like you might take your job; it’s that the corporation you work for will ship it overseas for nothing more than a profit.

The folks at Hot Air are saying the audience was Democrat Super Delegates. The applause was sporadic and weak, strongest when Obama noted his opposition to the war, and certainly no standing ovation.

Obama Compares Wright to Martin Luther King

I kid you not. There is no other way to interpret Obama's choice of analogy here, effectively comparing the exposure of Wright as an America-hating racist and the appropriate excoriation of the man, to the assassination of Dr. King. The following Swamp headline does get it wrong--the comparison is not of OIbama to RFK, it's Wright to MLK, make no mistake.

Obama invokes RFK in distancing self from pastor

PLAINFIELD, Ind. – Sen. Barack Obama invoked Robert F. Kennedy on Saturday as he continued to try to distance himself from controversial statements made by his former pastor that are now widely circulating on the Internet.

"Bobby Kennedy gave one of his most famous speeches on a dark night in Indianapolis, right after Dr. King was shot," Obama said. "He stood on top of a car."

In reality, Kennedy, speaking in nearby Indianapolis on the night of April 4, 1968, spoke from the bed of a flatbed truck.

"He delivered the news that Dr. King had been shot and killed," Obama continued. "At the moment of anguish, he said we've got a choice. We've got a choice in taking the rage and bitterness and disappointment and letting it fester and dividing us further so that we no longer see each other as Americans, but we see each other as separate and apart and at odds with each other...

Saying "the forces of division have started to raise their ugly heads again," Obama began to point to his own former pastor from Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago's South Side.

"I have a dream"="God damn America." Great job Barack Hussein Obama. Great job and simply stunning. Let's hope this is the beginning of the real Obama being exposed, and his undoing.

UPDATE:

Well, it seems Americans are indeed recognizing this for what it is, and rejecting Obama. His national lead among Democrats was 8 points yesterday. It has now plunged by an unprecedented 7 points overnight. Keep in mind, this drop is among his own supporters after a couple of days of Wright's venom being exposed, and Obama's credibility gap on what he knew and when he knew it. This highlights that despite our differences here in America, those differences are slight. Despite all our desire for change, Obama supporters also reject racist Hate America First rhetoric spewing from Barack Obama's 'spiritual adviser' and mentor. Good for them.

Obama and His Racist, America-Hating "Pastor"

obamawright.jpg

The very cozy Obama and Wright.

**Television programming note**: Gateway Pundit is noting that Major Garrett will have Barack Obama tonight on Hannity & Colmes/Fox News to discuss the Wright situation. They also have the full collection of Wright video spew. Perhaps now we know the real reason the Obama campaign has been desperate to paint Hillary and her supporters as 'racist'--to distract from their own ugly, racist underbelly.

After working feverishly to ignore the extraordinary racist, hate-filled comments by Barack Hussein Obama's "pastor", Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., they finally have been forced to admit he exist. Initially, Obama refused to outright condemn comments that ranged from urging black Americans to sing "God damn America," to proposing the theory that America engineered the AIDS virus to genocide people of color and deliberately distributes drugs to me of color, and that America is a terrorist nation. When you hear these remarkably paranoid assertions Michelle Obama's paranoid and America-hating rants make a lot more sense. After all, this is the man who has been Obama's mentor for 20 years, married the Obamas, and baptized their daughters (which means those two bright little girls are exposed to this racist, hate-based insanity.

Ron Kessler, who is associated with the McCain campaign, provided an opinion piece in today's WSJ, the first national newspaper to address this remarkable relationship between the leading Democrat candidate and a hate-monger:

Obama and the Minister

In a sermon delivered at Howard University, Barack Obama's longtime minister, friend and adviser blamed America for starting the AIDS virus, training professional killers, importing drugs and creating a racist society that would never elect a black candidate president.

The Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., pastor of Mr. Obama's Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, gave the sermon at the school's Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel in Washington on Jan. 15, 2006...Mr. Wright thundered on: "America is still the No. 1 killer in the world. . . . We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns, and the training of professional killers . . . We bombed Cambodia, Iraq and Nicaragua, killing women and children while trying to get public opinion turned against Castro and Ghadhafi . . . We put [Nelson] Mandela in prison and supported apartheid the whole 27 years he was there. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God." [...]

As for Mr. Wright's repeated comments blaming America for the 9/11 attacks because of what Mr. Wright calls its racist and violent policies, Mr. Obama has said it sounds as if the minister was trying to be "provocative."

Hearing Mr. Wright's venomous and paranoid denunciations of this country, the vast majority of Americans would walk out. Instead, Mr. Obama and his wife Michelle have presumably sat through numerous similar sermons by Mr. Wright.

Indeed, Mr. Obama has described Mr. Wright as his "sounding board" during the two decades he has known him. Mr. Obama has said he found religion through the minister in the 1980s. He joined the church in 1991 and walked down the aisle in a formal commitment of faith.

The title of Mr. Obama's bestseller "The Audacity of Hope" comes from one of Wright's sermons. Mr. Wright is one of the first people Mr. Obama thanked after his election to the Senate in 2004. Mr. Obama consulted Mr. Wright before deciding to run for president. He prayed privately with Mr. Wright before announcing his candidacy last year.

Mr. Obama obviously would not choose to belong to Mr. Wright's church and seek his advice unless he agreed with at least some of his views. In light of Mr. Wright's perspective, Michelle Obama's comment that she feels proud of America for the first time in her adult life makes perfect sense.

NY Gov Eliot Spitzer Linked to Prostitution Ring

hillspitz.jpg

The other lesson today: Don't keep standing next to men who can't keep their pants on.

We shouldn't be surprised. Don't forget, this is the same man who has such a tenuous grip on right and wrong that he pushed for driver licenses for illegal aliens in New York. That sort of willingness to reward those who break the law speaks to a rather odd view of the issue of crime and and punishment and a stunning hypocrisy. This is especially odd considering Spitzer's history in law enforcement, but then again hypocrisy among politicians of all stripes isn't odd at all. A big part of the story today is that his first statement involved an apology to his family. Isn't it interesting these people only apologize once they've been caught? Sheesh.

Sources: Spitzer to Resign Following Reports of 'Involvement' With Prostitution Ring, Faces Indictment

New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer apologized to his family in an appearance before reporters Monday following reports that he was linked to a high profile prostitution ring.

Spitzer has been indicted in the Southern District of New York in connection to a high-profile prostitution ring and is expected to resign, sources told FOX News.

But Spitzer did not mention resignation in his brief appearance:

"I am disappointed that I failed to live up to the standard I expected of myself. I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family. I will not be taking questions. Thank you very much," Spitzer said.

Spitzer scheduled the abrupt announcement from his office as news reports were breaking that the governor told staffers about his alleged involvement in the prostitution ring...In the affidavit, one prospective hooker refused to work for the company because it didn't pay enough and complained that a friend of hers had sex twice in an hour without getting dinner first. In another wiretapped conversation outlined in the affidavit, Emperors Club employees complained about a hooker who had to leave appointments early to pick up her kids from school, TSG reported.

The club's Web site shows a fee schedule of $1,000 per hour for a three-diamond prostitute and $3,100 per hour for a seven-diamond prostitute. Members of the exclusive Icon Club could reach restricted areas of the Web site and schedule appointments with the highest prostitutes, whose fees started at $5,500 per hour, the press release reads...

Spitzer's popularity has sagged according to recent polls. A January 25 Marist College poll showed 56 percent of registered voters did not approve of Spitzer's job, and he only carried a 35 percent approval rating.

Ha! he has a higher approval rating than the president or Congress! Hillary, in the meantime, has done a Stalin and erased all references to Spitzer, and his endorsement of her, from her website. All gone now!

Barack Channels McCain

Like all other politicians, the man says whatever is necessary to get elected at the time. What a perfect fit he and Hillary are. And what an unbelievably empty suit. (HT Weekly Standard)

Obama stance on Iraq shows evolving view

In July of 2004, the day after his speech at the Democratic convention catapulted him into the national spotlight, Barack Obama told a group of reporters in Boston that the United States had an "absolute obligation" to remain in Iraq long enough to make it a success.
more stories like this

"The failure of the Iraqi state would be a disaster," he said at a lunch sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, according to an audiotape of the session. "It would dishonor the 900-plus men and women who have already died. . . . It would be a betrayal of the promise that we made to the Iraqi people, and it would be hugely destabilizing from a national security perspective." [...]

Yesterday, Obama struck back, declaring that Clinton "doesn't have any standing to question my position on this issue." And he added that, "I will bring this war to an end in 2009, so don't be confused."

He better have someone call al-Qaida then with the surrender docs.

Michelle "Ebenezer" Obama Still Not Proud, Declares America "Mean"

Bah! Humbug!

Scrooge. Angry, miserable, and against happiness. But when did she dye her hair blue?

I think M. Ebenezer Obama is projecting just a tad. But, yeah, let's move her right into the White House. It's only fair. Normally we elect people who like America. Isn't it time to elect a couple who really, really, hate us? Michelle's approach is actually rather amusing, considering her husband keeps complaining about Hillary using the "politics of fear." So what exactly has his wife been spreading around? (HT JammieWearingFool).

The Other Obama

Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents. “We have become a nation of struggling folks who are barely making it every day,” she said, as heads bobbed in the pews.

From these bleak generalities, Obama moves into specific complaints. Used to be, she will say, that you could count on a decent education in the neighborhood. But now there are all these charter schools and magnet schools that you have to “finagle” to get into. (Obama herself attended a magnet school, but never mind.) Health care is out of reach (“Let me tell you, don’t get sick in America”), pensions are disappearing, college is too expensive, and even if you can figure out a way to go to college you won’t be able to recoup the cost of the degree in many of the professions for which you needed it in the first place. “You’re looking at a young couple that’s just a few years out of debt,” Obama said. “See, because, we went to those good schools, and we didn’t have trust funds. I’m still waiting for Barack’s trust fund. Especially after I heard that Dick Cheney was s’posed to be a relative or something. Give us something here!”

"Give us something here!" Says the woman who makes over $300,000 a year as a hospital administrator. Illustrative words spoken by an angry, miserable, ungrateful, hypocritical, entitlement Leftist.

Exposed: McCain, Not Romney, Supported Iraq Benchmarks Tied to Withdrawal

We can now add "hypocrite" in addition to liar and liberal to McAmnesty. A full year ago McCain was actually demanding benchmarks for the Iraqis tied directly to whether or not we continue our engagement there. Romney, on the other hand, simply suggested that we have specific accomplishments defined for the Iraqis. McCain specifically wanted benchmarks to exist tied directly with whether or not we finish the mission. (HT Kevin).

McCain exposed the lie of his "Straight Talk Express" when he twisted Mitt Romney's expectations about the surge and Iraq. Who of us can forget that Florida surprise tactic against Romney, as McCain lied and accused him of supporting benchmarks for withdrawal from Iraq? Even after all major news outlets like Time and CNN condemned him for it and exposed McCain's spin for what it was, he dug in and repeated the lie in the debate. Now we know, in fact, he was speaking about himself.

McCain considers setting benchmarks for Iraqis (January 2007)

WASHINGTON — Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., one of the most stalwart supporters of the war in Iraq, said Thursday that he might propose that the Iraqi government meet certain benchmarks for the United States to continue its engagement. Fellow senators and independent political scientists said McCain's thinking reflected growing concerns within the Republican Party about the course of the war, and also might mark a turning point for the likely 2008 presidential contender, whose previous unconditional backing of the war may have hurt his prospects.

McCain said Thursday that he hadn't yet decided on precise benchmarks. "They'd have to be specific, and they (Iraqi government officials) would have to meet them," he said.

Asked what penalty would be imposed if Iraq failed to meet his benchmarks, he said: "I think everybody knows the consequences. Haven't met the benchmarks? Obviously, then, we're not able to complete the mission. Then you have to examine your options."

McCain repeated his smear about Romney and continued to lie about his own record as late as yesterday.

McCain, Romney spar before Super Tuesday (January 2008)

But McCain, the Arizona senator who has strongly backed President Bush's Iraq policy, accused Romney of hedging after public support for the war waned.

"I was on the front lines with my friends saying we not only can't withdraw but we've got to have additional troops over there in order for us to have a chance to succeed," he said.

Yeah, it's an express to somewhere, certainly not the truth.

For those of you who didn't catch it, or forgot that exchange during the debate where Juan "Benchmarks" McAmnesty lied and spun about Romney's record, here it is. Bryan at Hot Air also has excellent commentary on McCain's contemptible position.

Brokeback Saudi Arabia

bushandsaudi.jpg

Bush with Saudi 'King' Abdullah

President Bush just loves the 'kingdom' that sentenced a gang rape victim to six months in prison and 200 lashes. Loves 'em! Oh sure, the 'King" 'pardoned' her, which only reinforces the idea that getting raped is a crime which requires a pardon.

Oh, and to say nothing of the fact that Saudi Arabia has refused to arrest any of the known al-Qaida financiers, still running around loose in Saudi Arabia.

We were in bed for quite some time with Saddan Hussein and look what that got us. Saudi Arabia is the primary tumor of radical Islam, and all the president wants is some bling and a big wet kiss. Oh yeah, holding up that sword machete, which is very similar to what is used to cut people's hands, arms, and heads off in the Saudi Chopping Center, seems to have thrilled him as well.

Disgusting.

Huckabee's Son Fired From Boy Scouts for Hanging a Dog

davidhuckabee.jpg

David Huckabee. Just don't let him near your pet.

This horrific event occurred supposedly because the dog had mange and was emaciated. Two things which can be cured by medical treatment and that thing called "food." Instead, Mike Huckabee's son decided it would be a good idea to torture the dog to death instead.

A Son’s Past Deeds Come Back To Bite Huckabee

As Mike Huckabee gains in the polls, the former Arkansas governor is finding that his record in office is getting more scrutiny. One issue likely to get attention is his handling of a sensitive family matter: allegations that one of his sons was involved in the hanging of a stray dog at a Boy Scout camp in 1998. The incident led to the dismissal of David Huckabee, then 17, from his job as a counselor at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, Ark. It also prompted the local prosecuting attorney— bombarded with complaints generated by a national animal-rights group—to write a letter to the Arkansas state police seeking help investigating whether David and another teenager had violated state animal-cruelty laws. The state police never granted the request, and no charges were ever filed. But John Bailey, then the director of Arkansas's state police, tells NEWSWEEK that Governor Huckabee's chief of staff and personal lawyer both leaned on him to write a letter officially denying the local prosecutor's request. [...]

The details of the incident remain murky. The Animal Legal Defense Fund got an anonymous fax that summer alleging that David Huckabee and another youth had been involved in the hanging of a stray dog at the camp on July 11. A local animal-rights activist, Joyce Hillard, later contacted the camp director. Notes of Hillard's report to the defense fund read, "Boys confessed & were fired. Dir. is making excuses, saying dog was sic & boys were putting him out of his misery." (The director told NEWSWEEK only that a stray dog was "put down" and that the counselors were fired for violating the Scout credo to be "kind.") The father of the other counselor was quoted by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette in August 1998 as saying that his son found the dog "hung over a limb and choking." David Huckabee did not respond to requests for comment. (In April of this year, he was arrested—and paid a fine—when he forgot to remove a loaded gun from his carry-on luggage at Little Rock airport.) His father told NEWSWEEK that his son did not engage in "intentional torture." "There was a dog that apparently had mange and was absolutely, I guess, emaciated." ...

Yeah, let's put these freaks in the White House.

UPDATE:

A Photographic Reality Check from Wonkette (HT Ashley in Comments). The Huckabee Christmas photo from his days as governor of Arkansas. Really, is this what we want as the First Family? At least Bill and Hill never wore matching suits. I will make no comment about what may be happening to the dog.

huckxmas.jpg

My friend Johnny does have one question--why did Louis Anderson crash the Huckabee Christmas card photo session?

Former Agent: Waterboarding Saves Lives But Should be Banned

So now other people should die so this man can feel morally superior. Lovely.

Ex-CIA agent: Waterboarding 'saved lives'

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A former CIA agent who participated in interrogations of terror suspects said Tuesday that the controversial interrogation technique of "waterboarding" has saved lives, but he considers the method torture and now opposes its use...

Waterboarding begins by placing a suspect on a table with the suspect's feet slightly elevated, said Kiriakou, who was waterboarded several years ago as part of his CIA training. He said he elected not to learn how to perform the technique, which is designed to emulate the sensation of drowning.

Once a suspect is secured on the table, interrogators wrap his or her face in a cellophane-like material, Kiriakou said. "There is a bladder, or a water source, above the head with water pouring down on the mouth, so no water is going into your mouth, but it induces a gag reflex and makes you feel like you're choking," Kiriakou said. Video Watch the ex-agent describe the procedure »

Kiriakou said he lasted only a few seconds during his training because his body felt like it was seizing up almost immediately.

"It's entirely unpleasant," Kiriakou said. "You are so full of tension that you tense up, your muscles tighten up. It's very uncomfortable."

Abu Zubayda lasted a little longer, said Kiriakou, but not much.

The former agent, who said he participated in the Abu Zubayda interrogation but not his waterboarding, said the CIA decided to waterboard the al Qaeda operative only after he was "wholly uncooperative" for weeks and refused to answer questions.

All that changed -- and Zubayda reportedly had a divine revelation -- after 30 to 35 seconds of waterboarding, Kiriakou said he learned from the CIA agents who performed the technique.

The terror suspect, who is being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, reportedly gave up information that indirectly led to the the 2003 raid in Pakistan yielding the arrest of Khalid Sheik Mohammed, an alleged planner of the September 11, 2001, attacks, Kiriakou said.

Let's see, what would make us Better, Morally Superior People? Hmmm....Allowing tens of thousands of innocent people to die horrible deaths at the hands of terrorists so we don't have to endure the 'shame' of 'torturing' bloodthirsty terrorists, or...Savings tens of thousands of innocent lives by making a bloodthirsty terrorist feel 'entirely unpleasant' and 'uncomfortable.'

Gee, I'm gonna have to meditate on that one.

The Dangerous Hypocrisy of Condi Rice

From the Wall Street Journal, a blunt assessment of the absurdity of the Annapolis Conference for Jew-Haters, Terrorists and Their Appeasers, with a special, and more than appropriate swipe at the rank hypocrisy of Condi Rice. Her actions, and this summit, only give aid and comfort to the beasts of the world.

Condi's Road to Damascus

Remember Nancy Pelosi's spring break in Damascus? Condoleezza Rice apparently does not. When the House Speaker paid Syrian strongman Bashar Assad a call back in April, President Bush denounced her for sending "mixed signals" that "lead the Assad government to believe they are part of the mainstream of the international community, when in fact they are a state sponsor of terror." Today, said sponsor of terror will take its place at the table Ms. Rice has set for the Middle Eastern conference at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

Only at Foggy Bottom would Syria's last-minute decision to go to Annapolis be considered a diplomatic triumph. The meeting is supposed to inaugurate the resumption of high-level negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians, with a view toward finalizing a deal on Palestinian statehood before the administration leaves office. On a deeper plane of geopolitical subtlety, it is supposed to bring Israel and the Arab world together in tacit alliance against Iran...

Put simply, there is nothing the U.S. can offer Mr. Assad that would seriously tempt him to alter his behavior in ways that could meaningfully advance U.S. interests or the cause of Mideast peace. Yet the fact that Ms. Rice's Syria policy is now a facsimile of Speaker Pelosi's confirms Mr. Assad's long-held view that he has nothing serious to fear from this administration.

So look out for more aggressive Syrian misbehavior in Lebanon, including the continued arming of Hezbollah; the paralysis of its political process; the assassination of anti-Syrian parliamentarians and journalists; the insertion of Sunni terrorist cells in Palestinian refugee camps, and the outright seizure of Lebanon's eastern hinterlands. Look out, too, for continued cooperation with North Korea on WMD projects: Despite Israel's September attack on an apparent nuclear facility, the AP reports that North Korean technicians are back in Syria, teaching their Arab pupils how to load chemical warheads on ballistic missiles. And don't hold your breath expecting Syria's good behavior on its Iraqi frontier to last much longer.

In the meantime, our friends the Saudis want to make sure they don't have to touch any Jews at this thing.

The Saudis Defend Lashes and Prison for Gang Rape Victim

LauraBushSaudi02.jpg

Laura Bush's friends explain why the 19-year-old rape victim deserves 200 lashes and 6 months in jail.

Saudis back sentence of 200 lashes for gang rape victim

SAUDI Arabia yesterday defended a court's decision to sentence a woman who was gang-raped to 200 lashes. The 19-year-old Shiite woman and an unrelated male companion were abducted and raped by seven men in 2006.

Ruling according to Saudi Arabia's strict reading of Islamic law, a court originally sentenced the woman to 90 lashes and the rapists to jail terms of between ten months and five years. It blamed the woman for being alone with an unrelated man.

But last week, the Supreme Judicial Council increased the sentence on the woman to 200 lashes and six months in prison...The ruling provoked rare criticism from the United States, which is trying to persuade Saudi Arabia to attend a Middle East peace conference in Maryland next week. A state department spokesman told reporters "most [people] would find it relatively astonishing that something like this happens".

What will our punishment be for being so weak-willed, and completely supportive of a nation that does this to women? Shame on Laura Bush as well as the so-called American "feminist" establishment. May they all have nightmares at night.

What's that Smell?

robertsonsmell.jpg

Oh, it's Pat Robertson endorsing Rudy Giuliani.

Pat Robertson Endorses Rudy Giuliani For President

Evangelical Christian leader Pat Robertson on Wednesday endorsed former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has struggled to bridge with conservatives some of his socially moderate policy positions on abortion and gay rights.

The endorsement is a coup for the Giuliani campaign, especially after opponent Mitt Romney recently racked up two major endorsements from social conservatives.

Robertson on Wednesday said Giuliani is the best candidate to handle the War on Terror. He said Giuliani understands the need for a conservative judiciary, and that he is a "true fiscal conservative" who is tough on crime.

"The overriding issue before the American people, is the defense of our population against the bloodlust of Islamic terrorists," Robertson told the National Press Club audience. "Our world faces deadly peril...and we need a leader with a bold vision who is not afraid to tackle the challenges ahead."

Robertson's right and I've been saying that for ages, but this is weird because right after 9/11 Robertson blamed the attacks on people like me--pro-choice lesbian feminists. And just a few years ago he suggested liberal judges were "probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings."

And does this mean Robertson thinks Giuliani deserved to get prostate cancer? And here he is endorsing the man who has the more liberal social views than any other Republican about people like me.

So, gee, do ya think Robertson is simply hitching his horse to the man who appears most likely to win the nomination? Robertson--a rank and cynical opportunist? If Robertson wants to endorse Giuliani, fine. I would be even more concerned if Rudy in some fashion endorsed Robertson and his God-Hates-and-Hurts-People rhetoric. Robertson is like a Fred Phelps Lite who condemns people on television instead of at funerals.

Yeah, I'm afraid that smell isn't going away anytime soon.

UPDATE:

Here's the video of the announcement. Despite the focus of this event being on Robertson, I do like seeing Ted Olson who is with the Giuliani campaign. Another reason to support Rudy.

Newsflash: Oprah Cried for a Whole Half Hour

I'm just wondering how child sexual abuse crying gets timed out at 30 minutes. I suppose when you're really busy, crying for a whole collection of thirty 1-minutes seems like an awfully long time. I do have a feeling, however, that the girls allegedly abused at Oprah's girls' school in South Africa have known, and will know, what it's like to cry for a heck of a lot longer.

'Momma bear' Oprah steps in

Johannesburg - Oprah Winfrey said on Monday she wept for half an hour when she heard a dormitory matron had been accused of abusing students at her school for disadvantaged girls, and promised to "clean house" starting with the headmistress.

The talk show host said officials at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls hid facts from her and told students to "put on happy faces" and not complain to her.

Oprah spoke to reporters in South Africa by satellite from the United States hours after the accused dormitory matron appeared in court near Johannesburg and was granted bail.

Tiny Virginia Makopo, 27, said she was "not guilty" of 13 charges of indecent assault, assault and criminal injury committed against six students aged 13-15 and a 23-year-old fellow dormitory matron.

Oprah said: "When I first heard about it, I spent about a half hour going around my house crying," calling it "one of most-devastating experiences of my life".

Oops, it might not have been whole thirty minutes, just 'about.' Should I now wonder if it was wrong of me to cry longer during one of my 'most-devastating' experiences? I mean, maybe 30 minutes is enough, that way you don't have to miss a whole TV show or a whole lunch hour, you could finish the New York Times crossword puzzle and maybe you can even get 30 more minutes of sleep if you keep your upsetness short.

I'll wait for Oprah's guidance on this issue of compassion, character and empathy. Because, after all, when you watch the clock 30-minutes feels like a lifetime.

Let's Get That Worldwide Islamic Caliphate Up and Running!

In addition to the spread of terrorism worldwide, Arabs and Muslims can now point to another sign of the moral and religious perfection and superiority of Islam.

Yes, practitioners of the Religion of Peace, at war with the horrors and excesses of the Infidel West, maim children then enslave them as beggars to make money during their "holy season." The compassionate and caring Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is also now arresting beggar children as the number of street children in all the obscenely rich Arab Muslim oil nations has skyrocketed in recent years.

Child beggars thrive on Muslim holy season in Gulf states

Child beggars have proliferated in Mecca and Medina, some maimed by traffickers to draw the sympathy of Muslim faithful who flock to Islam's holiest cities in Saudi Arabia during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. "Organised African gangs deliberately mutilate these child beggars before sending them into Saudi Arabia," Mecca police spokesman Abdul Mohsen al-Mimaan was quoted as saying..."These Africans practice the trade of children who have an arm or a leg amputated or whose body is burned with incendiary materials," Mimaan said...

The interior ministry announces almost daily arrests of beggars. Over the past five months, 15,000 of them, including around 2,700 Saudis, have been rounded up.

Officials fear the children could be exposed to sexual exploitation or sickness. [Sexual exploitation? In the holiest of all Islamic cities?! It's a lie! A lie!!!!]

But the scourge is not unique to Saudi Arabia.

According to a study by the Imam Mohammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh published in the Saudi daily Okaz, more than 80,000 "street children" can be found at any one time in the six oil-rich Gulf Arab monarchies -- Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Around 16,000 of those are on the streets of Bahrain, Oman and the UAE...

An official Saudi study recently cited in Okaz said that "more than 24,000 children of 18 nationalities, but particularly Yemenis, are thrown onto the streets of the kingdom, chiefly in Mecca and Medina, during Ramadan." [...]

According to the study compiled by the Imam Mohammad bin Saud Islamic University, 69 percent of child beggars in the capital Riyadh are Saudis aged six to eight. Economic and social factors, such as "the breakup of the family unit, domestic violence and poverty," are mainly to blame for pushing children to the streets, the study says.

Hillary's Retoractive Religion

Saint Hillary

A post by Maynard

Drudge linked to this Washington Post article about Hillary's religiosity. It's a puff piece of historical revisionism. It describes of Hillary's long religious history, and indeed the long religious history of the Democrat party in pursuit of the Christian ideal of "economic justice".

This would all be well and good if the story were "truthy". But anyone who lived through the Clinton presidency knows we didn't hear much in the way of religious rhetoric from co-President Rodham until recently. Neither did Bill Clinton exude any particular religiosi
