The Border Patrol as Illegal Alien Taxi Service

Taxi_cartoon.gif

Your tax dollars at work.

Border Patrol Lets Some Illegals Go -- Over and Over Again

Josefa Gonzalez Loya has sneaked across the Mexican border at least 128 times in the past eight years. And each time, the Border Patrol has been nice enough to give her a lift home.

Gonzalez and a group of other women and children--all Indians from the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca--have no interest in staying in the United States. All they want to do is panhandle outside El Paso businesses, using the children as lures.

At the end of a productive day, they wait for the Border Patrol to come pick them up and drive them back to the border.

But I Thought DC and Chicago Were Gun Free Zones

So why do the police need assault rifles? Weird.

D.C. to arm police with assault rifles

The Metropolitan Police Department has joined other major U.S. cities in arming patrol officers with assault rifles to protect them against criminals with high-powered weapons, weeks after being released from a federal program that monitors the use of excessive force.

"We want to be as accurate as possible and have more stopping power," Assistant Chief Patrick Burke said yesterday...The Chicago Police Department is making similar plans and the City of Miami Police Department is already using such weapons.

"We need to be equally equipped with the firearms that are being used against the police," said Monique Bond, a Chicago police spokeswoman. "If officers cannot protect themselves, they cannot protect residents." [Wait, wait, you mean guns in the hands of the right people is a good thing and protects people!?!?!? Is it possible?!?!]

Last month, Chicago had one of the most violent crime waves in recent history — 36 shootings in which nine people were killed and an AK-47 assault rifle was used to shoot up a plumbing-supply store...

Now just wait one second. We're talking about "gun violence" and guns are illegal so what are the police talking about!? Uh, and what is this about police not being able to protect the citizens? I mean, is it possible that "gun violence" is out of control because law-abiding citizens aren't allowed to protect themselves?

I can already feel a headache coming on I'm so confused.

McCain Begins Pathetic Pander for Illegal Alien Vote

sombrerobeach.jpg

McCain, once again, is more concerned with the votes of Foreign Nationals and their supporters than he is with Independent Conservatives. Yes, there may be 20 million illegals, but at least not all of them will be voting in November, especially with the USSC upholding the constitutionality of voter ID laws. We ICONS, however, will be voting and we also happen to be American citizens. It still amazes me that he feels we will at some point just automatically fall in line.

He's wrong. When wishing everyone a happy Cinco de Mayo yesterday, he announced a Spanish website for his campaign (and we all know that American citizens don't know how to speak English, nor should we encourage them to), and his intention to speak at La Raza's (The Race) conference in July.

McCain reaches out to Latinos for votes

He acknowledged that his party's image has taken a beating among Latinos as a result of the "tenor" of the illegal-immigration debate during the primaries. McCain said he couldn't gauge the political impact of Arpaio's roundups of illegal immigrants and other criminals in largely Hispanic neighborhoods. But he ultimately blamed U.S. government inaction for forcing local officials to enforce the law...McCain never fully abandoned his support for other reforms, saying that the government needs to demonstrate that it can fix the border mess before it can expect the American public to consider allowing in temporary workers and implementing other proposals that are seen as benefits for immigrants.

"I believe that the majority of Hispanics share our view that the border must be secured, and the border must be secured first," McCain said. "But they also want us to have an attitude, which I think most Americans do, that these are God's children and they must be taken care of, or the issue must be addressed, in a humane and compassionate fashion. And I will continue to carry that message with the priority that we must secure our borders first." [...]

Elias Bermudez, founder of the Phoenix-based advocacy group Immigrants Without Borders, is a McCain supporter who believes that, as president, McCain and his Democratic allies on Capitol Hill could deliver landmark immigration-reform legislation within the first 100 days of his administration.

As I've said, McCain can screw this up, and to remind people like us of his obsession with establishing a new slave class, at the expense of the Rule of Law and this nations' sovereignty, is the beginning of that screw-up.

Nothing Like a Dirt Biscuit!

My favorite man, Mark Steyn, takes his saber pen to the issue of ethenol. You know, that genius plan of the Left to put food into cars in the name of Climate Change, only to cause a worldwide food shortage and the starvation of people in countries across the globe. Well, I suppose with fewer people that helps solve the Climate Change problem, too, since it's all brought on by pesky humans. Now if we could just get Al Gore to stop eating as much, maybe Italy wouldn't be having pasta riots.

Feed your Prius, starve a peasant

At least five people have been killed in food riots in Port-au-Prince. Prices have risen 40 percent since last summer and, as columnist Deroy Murdock reported, some citizens are now subsisting on biscuits made from salt, vegetable oil and (mmmm) dirt. Dirt cookies: Nutritious, tasty and affordable? Well, one out of three ain't bad.

Unlike "global warming," food rioting is a planetwide phenomenon, from Indonesia to Pakistan to Ivory Coast to the tortilla rampages in Mexico and even pasta protests in Italy.

So what happened?

Well, Western governments listened to the ecowarriors and introduced some of the "wartime measures" they've been urging. The EU decreed that 5.75 percent of petrol and diesel must come from "biofuels" by 2010, rising to 10 percent by 2020. The United States added to its 51 cent-per-gallon ethanol subsidy by mandating a fivefold increase in "biofuels" production by 2022.

The result is that big government accomplished at a stroke what the free market could never have done: They turned the food supply into a subsidiary of the energy industry. When you divert 28 percent of U.S. grain into fuel production, and when you artificially make its value as fuel higher than its value as food, why be surprised that you've suddenly got less to eat? Or, to be more precise, it's not "you" who's got less to eat but those starving peasants in distant lands you claim to care so much about.

Yes, of course, please link through and read the whole thing.

Rice Warned Carter Over Hamas

But, just like everyone else on the international scene, he ignored her and went about his business.

Rice says Carter was warned against meeting with Hamas

KUWAIT CITY (AP) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Tuesday the Bush administration explicitly warned former President Jimmy Carter against meeting with members of Hamas, the Palestinian faction that controls the Gaza Strip and which is regarded by the U.S. as a terror group.

Rice, attending a regional meeting on Iraq's security and future, contradicted Carter's assertions that he never got a clear signal from the State Department. Rice told reporters that the U.S. thought the visit could confuse the message that the U.S. will not deal with Hamas.

"I just don't want there to be any confusion," Rice said. "The United States is not going to deal with Hamas and we had certainly told President Carter that we did not think meeting with Hamas was going to help" further a political settlement between Israel and the Palestinians.

The fact that there is a discussion at all, approved by us, between Israel and a terrorist organization is pathetic. But, of course, Carter and everyone else, continues to be played by these beasts.

Carter said top Hamas leaders told him during seven hours of talks in Damascus over the weekend that they are willing to live next to Israel [well heck yeah, it's so much easier to kill Jews when you're right next to them!], but a top Hamas official said the group would never outright recognize the Jewish state...

Carter won no specific concessions from Hamas. He defended his trip during remarks Monday in Jerusalem. He said he failed to convince the top Hamas boss, Khaled Mashaal, that he could gain international goodwill if he stopped rocket fire on Israel for one month.

"I did the best I could," Carter said. "They turned me down, and I think they're wrong."

Hey, Khaled, if you just stop murdering Jews for a month, and then go right back to it, everyone will feel so much better! And isn't it nice that Carter feels the need to make sure everyone knows that the keep-killing-innocent-people agenda of Hamas is "wrong." Because, you know, I'm sure Carter feels it's important for people to not think that killing Jews is a good thing. I suppose because in his depraved world to kill or not kill Jews is a such a funky gray moral area.

Obama: Don't Think, Be Happy

Maybe this explains the previous post's polling revelation.

From a day or so ago, but too priceless to let go. Mr. Obama apparently expects his supporters, and everyone else for that matter, to stop that pesky critical thinking about what he actually says and stands for and just be happy about the more vapid, esoteric 'importance' of his candidacy.

Some too 'obsessed' with what we say

PHILADELPHIA — You know a candidate is really feeling the heat when he starts complaining about the kitchen.

You know a candidate is having problems when he starts complaining about the process.

Wednesday night, in a debate here, Barack Obama complained a number of times about the presidential campaign process and how some people spend way too much time “obsessing” about some of the things he and others have actually said...

“I think what’s important is to make sure that we don’t get so obsessed with gaffes that we lose sight of the fact that this is a defining moment in our history,” Obama said.

He also said: “For us to be obsessed with this — these kinds of errors — I think is a mistake. And that’s not what our campaign has been about.”

That's right--it's been about empty, shallow rhetoric, unthinking emotionalism and reliance on mass hysteria.

Freedom Tower Plans Found In Trash

freedom-tower-1.jpg

We can thank a homeless man for finding them and turning them in. These plans, as you can imagine, are confidential and reveal the nature of the Freedom Tower schematics. Considering we're speaking about a new building that terrorists would also want to destroy, there's a reason these support and constructions details are supposed to be secret.

That homeless New Yorker should be given a new life, help for whatever has made him homeless, medical care for addiction, money, a free apartment, whatever he needs as a thank you for coming forward with this.

Report: NYC Freedom Tower plans found in trash

NEW YORK - A homeless man has come forward with two sets of confidential ground zero blueprints that he says were dumped in a Lower Manhattan trash can.

The man brought the Freedom Tower plans to the New York Post, which says the 150-page schematic is marked: "Secure Document — Confidential."

The documents are dated Oct. 5, 2007. They contain plans for each floor, the thickness of the concrete-core wall, and the location of air ducts, elevators, electrical systems and support columns.

You Small Town, Bitter, Ignorant Reactionary Rednecks, You

It's interesting what we learn about the Obama's when they open their mouths, isn't it? Make no mistake--one of the hallmarks of Marxists is their disdain for people in general. Barack Obama has judged you and declared you Stupid and Shallow. Barack Hussein Obama has determined that your faith in God, your commitment to the founding principles of this great nation, including the Second Amendment, and your love of this nation and her sovereignty, are simple refuges for the depressed, bitter and ignorant.

What should you take from his comments? That Barack Obama is a self-righteous, MalNar Snob who is stupid enough and In Love with HImself enough to not know what not to say or even to realize how pathetic he is.
Combine his tripe with the Missus' declaration that we're also mean and a bunch of failures, well, I'd say we need to make very sure these freaks don't get anywhere near the White House. Ever.

Obama has already apologized, sorta. But let's start from the beginning. Here's Politico's coverage of The Messiah's description of you Stone-Agers in the Midwest:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Wow, so what have you people been doing out of work for 25 years? Oh yeah, getting angry, and in your stupid shallowness perhaps wanting revenge because Big Brother abandoned you, you're buying guns, getting faith, and deciding you don't like the Mexicans. Sure.

What Happens When You Put Food Into Cars

ethanol.jpg

The price of food goes up because supply can't meet demand, much like oil. The only difference is, if the price of oil goes up, the price of gas goes up, and one can choose to use less gas, and use alternatives. When the price of food goes up there aren't any alternatives. The wealthy, of course, can pay more, but the less well off don't have as much flexibility.

One of the more dramatic headlines in the last couple of days has been the rising price of corn, a result of 'climate change' hysteria. It is the fault of a world so willing to goose-step into line with frantic and ridiculous leftists who worship Al Gore as they pander to his non-existent and yet implacable enemy.

Skyrocketing corn prices hit ethanol profits

The continuing surge in the price of corn, which is punishing households with higher food prices, is cutting the profits of American ethanol producers and playing havoc with an industry that was blamed for causing the grain shortage.

The price of a bushel of corn soared above $6 on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange last week, pushed higher by news that American farmers were planting less corn...Expensive corn is hurting the livestock industry, which in turn will raise the price of meat, Rich Feltes, senior vice-president of commodity research for MF Global, said. “Hog producers are liquidating sows, the farmers are operating in the red,” he said.

The skyrocketing cost of corn is rebounding on the ethanol industry, which is taking an ever larger proportion of the US corn harvest to manufacture road fuel.

Treason Now Gets You Only 10 Years In Prison

Maybe even less. Selling out our nation's security to a Communist pit ultimately bent on destroying the Free World is a crime which should get you hanged. Apparently not these days, even when spying for China, one of the most depraved, genocidal nations on Earth.

Former Pentagon official pleads guilty in China spy case

A former Pentagon official pleaded guilty in court Monday to an espionage charge over the disclosure of secret data to an alleged Chinese agent in the US. Gregg Bergersen said he was unaware that the Taiwan-born businessman was passing the information to China. Mr. Bergersen, a weapons systems policy analyst who resigned his job last week, could face up to 10 years in prison.

The leaked data concerned US weapons programs for Taiwan, which China has threatened to regain by force, if necessary. Taiwan is a potential flash point for US-China rivalry in East Asia, and US military support for Taiwan is an irritant to Beijing. In turn, Taiwan has flagged China's steady buildup of missiles capable of hitting Taiwan. US military officials have warned that China and Russia have stepped up military spying activities in recent years, focusing on advanced weapon technology...

In two separate developments this week, a judge in California agreed to postpone until next May the trial of a Chinese-American engineer charged with stealing military and aerospace trade secrets on behalf of China, the Associated Press reports, and a federal court sentenced a Chinese-born engineer working on a Navy warship to 24 years in jail for trying to pass "sensitive data" to China, Bloomberg reports.

Despite all this, including the poisoned and tainted food and medicine with which China has been flooding our nation, as well as dangerous and defective toys for children and weakened steel for our buildings, President Bush still plans on traveling to China to enjoy the Olympic games while boosting the image of that pit as a civilized nation.

No wonder they have contempt for us as they try to issue Death by a Thousand Cuts.

Thinking Is Hard!

thinkingishard.jpeg

That's the reason, at least, an illegal alien has given to explain her opposition to her workplace requirement she speak English on the job.

...Expecting a baby in May, Rios expressed concern about speaking out publicly against the policy. However, she said she felt compelled to do so because she believes it is unfair.

"This is my first language -- Spanish -- and it's hard for me sometimes when I'm speaking. I have to stop and think what I'm going to say in English," Rios said. [Yeah, that's called "learning another language."]

She said supervisors have been cracking down and told her she could not say "hola," but "hi."

Hmm, yeah, that "thinking" part when it comes to saying hello. Now that's a back-breaker! I wonder if she's planning on buying extra diapers when she as the baby--you know, some for the infant and some for herself?

Merck's 'Singulair' May Cause Suicide

Well, death will certainly cure your asthma. That happens, you know, when you stop breathing entirely. Amazing, isn't it, how the FDA is always too late closing the barn door, not only after the horse gets out, but kills itself? Yeah, let's put people like this in charge of even more of our health care!

FDA: Merck drug may have suicide link

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Food and Drug Administration says it's investigating a possible link between the allergy drug Singulair and suicide.

FDA said it is reviewing reports of mood changes, suicidal behavior and suicide in patients who have taken the drug. Singulair was drug maker Merck's best-selling product last year.

In the past year Merck has updated the drug's labeling four times to include information on tremors, anxiousness, depression and suicidal behavior reported in some patients.

Singulair had sales of more than $4 billion last year.

Monica Need Not Apply

craigmugshot.jpg

Just when you thought it was safe to go to back into the bathroom.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Idaho Senator Larry Craig is currently seeking intern applications for the summer term, which runs from May to August. The application deadline is March 15, however if more time is needed for the application process, please contact Senator Craig's office for an extension.

"Interns have the chance to be an essential part of a working congressional office," said Craig. "They participate in the legislative process as well as ensure that constituent services run smoothly. For those interested in politics, it is an incredible opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at how our government functions while serving the people of Idaho."

Exposed: McCain, Not Romney, Supported Iraq Benchmarks Tied to Withdrawal

We can now add "hypocrite" in addition to liar and liberal to McAmnesty. A full year ago McCain was actually demanding benchmarks for the Iraqis tied directly to whether or not we continue our engagement there. Romney, on the other hand, simply suggested that we have specific accomplishments defined for the Iraqis. McCain specifically wanted benchmarks to exist tied directly with whether or not we finish the mission. (HT Kevin).

McCain exposed the lie of his "Straight Talk Express" when he twisted Mitt Romney's expectations about the surge and Iraq. Who of us can forget that Florida surprise tactic against Romney, as McCain lied and accused him of supporting benchmarks for withdrawal from Iraq? Even after all major news outlets like Time and CNN condemned him for it and exposed McCain's spin for what it was, he dug in and repeated the lie in the debate. Now we know, in fact, he was speaking about himself.

McCain considers setting benchmarks for Iraqis (January 2007)

WASHINGTON — Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., one of the most stalwart supporters of the war in Iraq, said Thursday that he might propose that the Iraqi government meet certain benchmarks for the United States to continue its engagement. Fellow senators and independent political scientists said McCain's thinking reflected growing concerns within the Republican Party about the course of the war, and also might mark a turning point for the likely 2008 presidential contender, whose previous unconditional backing of the war may have hurt his prospects.

McCain said Thursday that he hadn't yet decided on precise benchmarks. "They'd have to be specific, and they (Iraqi government officials) would have to meet them," he said.

Asked what penalty would be imposed if Iraq failed to meet his benchmarks, he said: "I think everybody knows the consequences. Haven't met the benchmarks? Obviously, then, we're not able to complete the mission. Then you have to examine your options."

McCain repeated his smear about Romney and continued to lie about his own record as late as yesterday.

McCain, Romney spar before Super Tuesday (January 2008)

But McCain, the Arizona senator who has strongly backed President Bush's Iraq policy, accused Romney of hedging after public support for the war waned.

"I was on the front lines with my friends saying we not only can't withdraw but we've got to have additional troops over there in order for us to have a chance to succeed," he said.

Yeah, it's an express to somewhere, certainly not the truth.

For those of you who didn't catch it, or forgot that exchange during the debate where Juan "Benchmarks" McAmnesty lied and spun about Romney's record, here it is. Bryan at Hot Air also has excellent commentary on McCain's contemptible position.

When Homicide Bombers Get Sloppy

I love these Good News homicide bomber stories. It just confirms that God does indeed have a sense of humor. At some point even the Islamists freaks will have to admit that Allah isn't 'willing.'

Suicide bomber falls down stairs

A WOULD-be suicide bomber fell down a flight of stairs and blew himself up as he headed out for an attack in Afghanistan, police say.

It was the second such incident in two days, with another man killing himself and three others on Tuesday when his bomb-filled waistcoat exploded as he was putting it on in the southern town of Lashkar Gah...

The would-be attacker tripped as he was leaving a building apparently to target an opening ceremony for a mosque that was expected to be attended by Afghan and international military officials, said Sakhi Mir.

Oops.

'Green' Scourge: Fluorescent Bulbs

Surprise: Just as England decided it would completely ban conventional light bulbs, we're finding the supposedly environmentally and human-friendly fluorescent bulbs are more dangerous and damaging than conventional bulbs ever were. According to experts, fluorescents cause migraines, exacerbate skin conditions and provoke seizures. Oh yeah, and with that mercury in them, they're also a Hazardous Waste.

Maybe this news will get Algore another Nobel Peace Prize. After all, if the plans to stop Global Warming kill off a good section of humanity, All-Mans-Fault-Global-Warming, by default, will be slowed or stopped. Yeehaw!

BBC: Low-energy bulbs 'cause migraine

The Migraine Action Association says members have told them how fluorescent bulbs have led to attacks. Concerns have already been raised by epilepsy charities about an increased risk of seizures from energy-saving bulbs..."These bulbs do trigger migraines for some of our members - it's either the flickering, or the low intensity of the light, causing eye strain.

"We would ask the government to avoid banning them completely, and still leave some opportunity for conventional bulbs to be purchased."

BBC: Low-energy bulbs 'worsen rashes'

Fluorescent bulbs can exacerbate skin rashes in people with photosensitive skin conditions, experts said...Health conditions which can involve some form of light sensitivity, include the auto-immune disease lupus, the genetic disorder Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP), certain forms of eczema and dermatitis, photosensitivity, and porphyria.

BBC: Low-energy bulb disposal warning

Low-energy bulbs contain small amounts of poisonous mercury and are classed as hazardous waste.

If one breaks, the room should be aired and the pieces removed in a sealed bag without using a vacuum cleaner.

The agency says householders need to be given more information about where to take the bulbs for safe recycling.

Citibank and The Selling Out of America to Brutes

The big news today was the bailout of Citigroup by Islamist 'kingdom' Abu Dhabi. While many of us are extremely disturbed by the continuing selling out of American infrastructure to the Islamist world, the Financial Times shed some light on what the 'investment' really means.

'Putting off day of reckoning'

Sixteen years ago, the largest bank in the US was on the ropes, its balance sheet crippled by bad debts, especially on commercial real estate and Latin American loans.

Citicorp, as it was then known, turned to a top client in the Middle East for help, securing a $600m investment from Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia for convertible shares paying a cumulative annual dividend of 11 per cent.

Now Citigroup, its balance sheet threatened by bad residential real estate loans and related securities, has once again turned to a top client in the Middle East.

his time it is receiving a $7.5bn cash infusion from the investment arm of the Abu Dhabi government for convertible stock yielding 11 per cent...Prince Alwaleed has earned a 10-fold return on his original investment even after Citi's nearly 50 per cent share price decline over the last year.

Now, Citigroup is without a long-term leader, following the departure this month of Chuck Prince as chief executive.

It faces serious risks that its mortgage-related losses could rise even further. More broadly, there is a commonly held belief that Citigroup, in its current form, is simply too big and complicated to be run successfully.

Most of us are already concerned with the apparent Islamist effort to takeover a great deal of American infrastructure. Most of us are already rightly concerned about allowing oppressive, tyrannical nations to have such control over us. Take a look, as an example, of what our own CIA says about the United Arab Emirates, of which Abu Dhabi, is the capitol:

The Dangerous Hypocrisy of Condi Rice

From the Wall Street Journal, a blunt assessment of the absurdity of the Annapolis Conference for Jew-Haters, Terrorists and Their Appeasers, with a special, and more than appropriate swipe at the rank hypocrisy of Condi Rice. Her actions, and this summit, only give aid and comfort to the beasts of the world.

Condi's Road to Damascus

Remember Nancy Pelosi's spring break in Damascus? Condoleezza Rice apparently does not. When the House Speaker paid Syrian strongman Bashar Assad a call back in April, President Bush denounced her for sending "mixed signals" that "lead the Assad government to believe they are part of the mainstream of the international community, when in fact they are a state sponsor of terror." Today, said sponsor of terror will take its place at the table Ms. Rice has set for the Middle Eastern conference at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

Only at Foggy Bottom would Syria's last-minute decision to go to Annapolis be considered a diplomatic triumph. The meeting is supposed to inaugurate the resumption of high-level negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians, with a view toward finalizing a deal on Palestinian statehood before the administration leaves office. On a deeper plane of geopolitical subtlety, it is supposed to bring Israel and the Arab world together in tacit alliance against Iran...

Put simply, there is nothing the U.S. can offer Mr. Assad that would seriously tempt him to alter his behavior in ways that could meaningfully advance U.S. interests or the cause of Mideast peace. Yet the fact that Ms. Rice's Syria policy is now a facsimile of Speaker Pelosi's confirms Mr. Assad's long-held view that he has nothing serious to fear from this administration.

So look out for more aggressive Syrian misbehavior in Lebanon, including the continued arming of Hezbollah; the paralysis of its political process; the assassination of anti-Syrian parliamentarians and journalists; the insertion of Sunni terrorist cells in Palestinian refugee camps, and the outright seizure of Lebanon's eastern hinterlands. Look out, too, for continued cooperation with North Korea on WMD projects: Despite Israel's September attack on an apparent nuclear facility, the AP reports that North Korean technicians are back in Syria, teaching their Arab pupils how to load chemical warheads on ballistic missiles. And don't hold your breath expecting Syria's good behavior on its Iraqi frontier to last much longer.

In the meantime, our friends the Saudis want to make sure they don't have to touch any Jews at this thing.

Bush Invites Terrorists to Annapolis

It's no longer enough for us to be sitting down for lunch with terrorists in the Middle East, now we're inviting then into this nation directly. The absurdity of Bush and Rice still agitating for a so-called Palestinian state after what happened with the Gaza Strip is indescribable. To say nothing of negotiating with Fatah, having been voted out of power and then literally kicked out of Gaza by Iran's death squad Hamas.

Yeah, let's bring 'em all to Annapolis and chat.

Doubts cloud U.S. talks set on Mideast
Abbas and Olmert will meet with Bush next week, but who else will attend is uncertain, as is the agenda.

The Bush administration announced Tuesday that it would hold a stripped-down international conference next week to begin negotiating the core issues that divide the Israelis and Palestinians, the first formal attempt to revive peace talks in seven years.

U.S. officials issued invitations to 49 nations and international organizations for the three-day gathering, to be attended by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The talks are aimed at building support for the wider peace negotiations and laying the groundwork for a Palestinian state in the next 14 months, before President Bush leaves office.

Mind you, what matters here to Bush isn't whether this is a ludicrous waste of time; the only thing on his mind is getting something, anything done before he leaves office.

The prime sponsors -- Bush, Abbas and Olmert -- are seen as weak leaders with feeble domestic support. And despite consultations throughout the year, the Palestinians and Israelis have committed themselves to little more than to continue talking about the issues.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the chief force behind the effort, began the year hoping that Palestinians and Israelis could inject new interest into a stalled process by opening discussions of how an eventual Palestinian state would look...But the negotiating teams that began trying in early October to work out a crucial "joint statement" for the peace conference failed to agree on anything after 10 sessions -- neither the principles that would underpin the negotiations, a timetable or a mechanism for monitoring compliance with certain obligations.

Classic Bush and Rice--running around in complete darkness trying to look busy, accomplishing nothing while making things worse. Like giving terrorists around the world one more piece of evidence that if you survive long enough as a mass murdering terrorist you, too, will be treated like a Stateman in the United States.

Spitzer Caves, Drops Plan for Illegal Alien Licenses

What an absolutely pathetic man. Having to manage politicians like they're children is getting old. I do wonder how much Hillary had to do with this. After her absurd debate performance on the issue, it's safe to say this is the last thing she wanted hanging around during her pseudo-campaign season.

Spitzer will drop license plan for illegal immigrants

A humbled Gov. Eliot Spitzer -- facing an insurrection from New York Democrats -- is ditching his controversial plan to grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants that provoked a massive national backlash.

Spitzer will announce he's "scrapping the plan" after a meeting of the state's congressional delegation on Capitol Hill this morning, according to his spokeswoman, Christine Anderson. The license proposal had proven to be a political albatross for Democratic supporters, especially Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was grilled on the issue during a debate in Philadelphia late last month.

Spitzer is expected to tell the delegation that "immigration is a federal, not a state issue," said one congressional source familiar with the governor's thinking.

That explanation is virtually identical to Clinton's statements on the issue
-- and gives the Democratic front-runner a ready-made answer when the topic is inevitably raised at tomorrow's Democratic debate in Las Vegas.

In other words, it's Hillary who will give all illegal aliens driver licenses, so don't you worry your pretty little Metro Sexual head Eliot. After all, Hillary now owes you--you've given her the perfect non-answer about this issue, too. "It's a federal issue." Okay, and so what re you going to do about it?

Wait, I suppose that depends on what the meaning of "illegal" is. Is.

UPDATE 11/14:

As expected, Spitzer had his press conference today, all the while complaining about how all us ignorant rubes ruined his plan to make the world better.

You want a textbook example of what "arrogant SOB" means? Listen to the news coverage is this man's press conference. Priceless.

Who Should Have Won the Nobel Prize

From the Daily Gut and the Wall Street Journal. Reminders both of what really matters and why the Nobel Prize Committee simply reinforced it's laughable irrelevance in a world where so many are fighting and dying to create a better world. Instead, they recognize the Goracle and a bunch of UN scientists who promote a Bogeyman for fun and profit.

For perspective about what and who really matters here is the Daily Gut's take on who really deserves a Peace Prize.

FRIDAY'S GREGALOGUE: IRENA SENDLER

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded this morning, and I'd like to congratulate Irena Sendler. Sendler was a former history teacher who rescued 2,500 children during the Holocaust and was a top contender for the wondrous prize. Back during the early 1940's, Sendler was a Catholic social worker who had gone into the Warsaw ghetto to rescue Jewish kids who were destined either to starve there, or die in death camps. She would sneak the kids past Nazi guards, sometimes hiding them in body bags, or would provide them with false documents - inevitably getting them to Polish families for adoption, or hiding them in convents or orphanages. She also made a list of the children's real names, put them in a jar and buried them, so that some day she could dig them up and find the kids to tell them their true names. The Nazis captured her and beat the crap out of her, but she later escaped, and she went into hiding. She's now in her late 90's , living in a nursing home in Poland...

And here's a few of the many excellent suggestions from the WSJ of some people who might have been slightly more worthy than the man who complains about the weather and how the evil human race and our very existence is the problem.

Not Nobel Winners

In Olso yesterday, the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize was not awarded to the Burmese monks whose defiance against, and brutalization at the hands of, the country's military junta in recent weeks captured the attention of the Free World.

The prize was also not awarded to Morgan Tsvangirai, Arthur Mutambara and other Zimbabwe opposition leaders who were arrested and in some cases beaten by police earlier this year while protesting peacefully against dictator Robert Mugabe...

Or to Wajeha al-Huwaider and Fawzia al-Uyyouni, co-founders of the League of Demanders of Women's Right to Drive Cars in Saudi Arabia, who are waging a modest struggle with grand ambitions to secure basic rights for women in that Muslim country.

A reminder about what really matters, and what really does not. Al Gore and the Nobel Peace Prize Committee obviously fit into the "do not" category.

Disturbing the Dead to Placate Islam

Apparently it's not enough for the living to denigrate their lives by pandering to the Islamist Death Cult. Now the English want to destroy an historic graveyard, dig up 350,000 and re-open it as a graveyard for Muslims.

The higher irony with this story--considering the goals of the Islamist Death Cult and if the civilized world doesn't stop its inaction and pandering, it's Christians and Jews who are going to need more graveyard space.

Anger over plan to dig up 350,000 bodies in historic London cemetery for Muslim burial site

It is a peaceful resting place for 350,000 souls - an historic graveyard which now serves as a nature reserve. But plans are afoot to dig up the ancient graves at Tower Hamlets Cemetery - and reopen it as a 21st century burial site.

Officially it would be known as a "multi-faith" cemetery but it is likely that it would principally answer calls for a Muslim graveyard in the largely-Asian East London borough...

The local newspaper has been bombarded with letters from historians and nature lovers declaring: "There is no way we'll allow them to dig up our ancestors."

But the Labour-controlled council's environment spokesman Abdal Ullah appeared to be in no doubt about the feasibility of the plan when he said: "To preserve the respect and dignity for everyone, I think most of the graves would have to be cleared out and we'd start afresh."
