Tell the GOP How To Get You Back

And no, they don't even need to send you flowers. After three special election loses to Dems, the NRCC Chair Cole noted in a conference call today that they need to take a long, hard look to see if there's <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2008/05/14/nrcc-media-conference-call/"target=blank">a problem with the product. What, so now Republican candidates are made in China? This is 2008. That "long, hard look" should have started after the 2006 election blowout.

Instead of talking with the media and to themselves, perhaps it's time they hear from some actual conservatives. Contact Boehner's office and the NRCC and tell them what they need to do to get you back. They can start with McCain cancelling his speech to La Raza in July; they can say they're committed to the border wall not just "securing the border." And they can eliminate the word "first" after that phrase and reverse themselves on the failed "Guest Worker" proposal; they can apologize for the amnesty debacle last year, and they can tell McCain to stop with the "climate change" BS. I know your list is probably longer, just tell them what's important to you. (Thanks to Pat Ess for the numbers and contact info).

GOP "Stunned" By Loss in Mississippi

Maybe <a href="http://www.johnmccain.com/climatechange/"target=blank">Al Gore and the folks at <a href="http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=64017"target=blank">La Raza will help them win back the South.

<a href="http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/05/gop_stunned_by_loss_in_mississ.html"target=blank">GOP Stunned By Loss in Mississippi

In a major blow to national Republicans, a Mississippi congressional seat that once voted for President Bush by a twenty-five point margin elected a Democrat on Tuesday. Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers beat out Republican candidate Greg Davis, the mayor of Southaven, by a 54%-46% margin, a spread that several Republican strategists on Capitol Hill characterized as a startling wake-up call for a party in dire straits.

Last night, Childers, a conservative Democrat, again outperformed Davis in many rural counties. Childers did better than in April in eighteen out of twenty four counties, while he underperformed in just two counties...

The loss has already shaken establishment Republicans in Washington. After losing special elections in Illinois and Louisiana, the House GOP conference already expects a bad year for their party. But those two districts voted for President Bush by eleven and nineteen points, respectively, not by a whopping twenety five points. "People are going to want change," said a top aide to a leading House Republican..."The political environment is such that voters remain pessimistic about the direction of the country and the Republican Party in general," [NRCC Chair] Cole continued. "I encourage all Republican candidates, whether incumbents or challengers, to take stock of their campaigns and position themselves for challenging campaigns this fall by building the financial resources and grassroots networks that offer them the opportunity and ability to communicate, energize and turn out voters this election."

Still, losing heavily Republican seats in the Deep South is a big blow to the Washington GOP. "To lose two Southern seats in two weeks, I mean, oh my God," the leadership aide said. The aide told Real Clear Politics that something new is going to happen at the NRCC. "People look at Cole, and they say, 'What are you going to do to change?' And if he doesn't want to change, change is going to be forced on him."

What is the NRCC Chair going to do to change? The question is: What is the NRCC going to do to get the top of their party, John McCain, to stop pandering to Democrats and Illegal Aliens and embrace the Independent Conservative? If McCain and the Repubs think Dems and "Hispanics" are going to carry them through November, these loses are wake-up calls reminding them that simply isn't going to happen.

Asinine Quote of the Day

<a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080513/ap_on_go_co/congress_energy"target=blank">"We can't drill our way to lower prices."

This gem is from Senator Dick "Turban" Durbin about oil. He'd be right if we were talking about toilet paper, but we're not. Durbin, the other senator from Illinois, is also well-known for calling our troops at Gitmo "Nazis." And because we're talking about oil here Senator Durbin if we drilled in Anwar, thereby increasing the supply of oil, prices would go down. It's that pesky thing called "supply and demand." To say nothing of the fact that the more of our own oil we use, the less dependent we are on the worldwide demand, therefore able to price our 'private reserve,' if you will, as we see fit.

Instead, the geniuses in congress have decided that we should stop sending 70,000 barrels into our strategic reserve, which we have to keep, of course, because we don't drill for our own oil, but rely to some degree on Islamist tyrants for theirs.

Josefa Gonzalez Loya has sneaked across the Mexican border at least 128 times in the past eight years. And each time, the Border Patrol has been nice enough to give her a lift home.

Gonzalez and a group of other women and children--all Indians from the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca--have no interest in staying in the United States. All they want to do is panhandle outside El Paso businesses, using the children as lures.

At the end of a productive day, they wait for the Border Patrol to come pick them up and drive them back to the border.

History Repeating

A post by Maynard

I'm continuing to read Arthur Koestler's books. His autobiographical works in particular are fascinating, in that he connects his extensive personal adventures in pre-WWII Europe with the essential history of his era. His stories include much astute commentary on why everyone, himself included, allowed evil to flourish.

Koestler's first autobiographical volume was "Arrow in the Blue" (covering his birth in 1905 until he became a Communist in 1932); his story is continued in "The Invisible Writing", which covers the prewar period from 1932 to 1940. Here is an excerpt from that book which, although written in the early 1950's, is so terribly relevant to this day that it must be read. In this modern era of mega-weapons and genocidal maniacs, we cannot afford to ignore and repeat the mistakes of the past.

For seven years [from 1932], the statesmen and people of the West failed to see the obvious, failed to understand the threat to their civilization, and to eliminate it while it could still be done at a relatively small price. The seven-years'-blindness which benighted the West from 1932 to 1939 was one of the remarkable phenomena of History. As if acting under a curse, the various nations and political parties, Right and Left, however opposed their policies were in other respects, seemed to collaborate to bring about Europe's destruction. The attitude of the Conservative forces ranged from inane misconceptions of the nature of Hitler's regime to passive sympathy and active complicity. The various Socialist and Labor parties indulged in rhetorical denunciations of the Fascist danger, and did everything in their power to prevent their countries from arming against it. The Communists exploited the anti-Fascist movement for their own purposes and wound up with a staggering betrayal. It looked as if they were all partners in a secret European suicide pact.

The only mitigating circumstances the West could plead was of a psychological nature. The West was mentally incapable of believing in the gory tales about Nazi atrocities and about their fantastic plans for world conquest which sounded like something straight out of science fiction. When Hitler was beaten, the same psychological block made its appearance with regard to the Stalinite regime and its plans for conquest; the pattern repeated itself with a perverse and uncanny precision. But then, it required exceptional powers of imagination for people brought up in the traditions of the West to accept and visualize the revival of medieval torture and antique state slavery. It required an even greater intellectual effort to believe in the reality of the National Socialist and Communist schemes to enforce the millennium by terror, conspiracy and conquest. This incredulity towards the incredible was the most generalized phenomenon in the Seven Years' Night.

On the O'Reilly Factor Tonight

Time Program Note: Originally, I thought I would be on near the end of the hour, now it looks like it's the segment right after his Talking Points Memo, at the top of the hour.

We'll be talking about Hillary and recurring accusations of racism from the Obama camp, which, IMHO, is another desperate attack by the Obama camp against a woman who has no intention of being bullied out of the race. So instead they think continuing to attempt to smear her will do the trick. In all honesty, why is recognizing and talking about the fact that Obama gets 92% of the black vote not racist, but Hillary mentioning the breakdown of her vote is racist? Well, it's not, of course. The Obama camp saw the false racism accusation work against Geraldine Ferraro (not that we believed it, but she did go away) Perhaps they think somehow, someway, it will make Hillary disappear. I think they have another thing coming and they had better get used to the fact that their Thought Police tactics won't work on everyone.

A (sign)post by Maynard

Which one of the four Adopt-A-Highway signs pictured above was removed because some people found it offensive?

Although the KKK sign troubled many people, the ACLU fought for the Klan's rights and won.

Tha Nazi Party signs, put up at a cost to taxpayers of $500, merely "draws ire".

The NAMBLA sign "is a matter of personal taste and has nothing to do with legality." (A subsequent report opens the possibility that NAMBLA did not itself apply to adopt the highway, but a prankster put the NAMBLA name on the application. So these signs apparently came down on a technicality.)

However, a group that advocates enforcement of immigration laws must be silenced.

Let's Get Global Warming Back on Track

Three cheers for Global Warming!

Nature is doing the shenanigans and messing with the Global Warming. As an example, this last month was <a href="http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/cag3/na.html"target=blank">the coldest April in the last 100 years.

The average temperature in April 2008 was 51.0 F. This was -1.0 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average, the 29th coolest April in 114 years. The temperature trend for the period of record (1895 to present) is 0.1 degrees Fahrenheit per decade.

Now that's just not right. What about that extra beach Algore promised and I was looking forward to? And the warmer winters, which will save people's lives?

<a href="http://www.investors.com/editorial/editorialcontent.asp?status=article&id=287885246723479&secid=1501"target=blank">Will Global Warming Save Lives?

Global Warming: A study done for the British government says that global warming will kill thousands. It also says lives will be saved due to warmer winters. OK, which is it? Or is it neither? A report commissioned by Britain's Health Department says that one blistering hot summer between now and 2017 could kill more than 6,000 Britons. The panel of scientific experts that compiled the study believes the chance of that is 25%...The panel also said global warming will bring warmer winters, which will cut down on cold-related deaths in Britain.

So should we fear human-created climate change or embrace it?

Surprisingly, the BBC stood out as one media agent that took enough care to balance its coverage. Under the Web site headline "Global Warming 'May Cut Deaths,' " it reported 20,000 deaths are linked to the cold each year in the U.K. and that those deaths fell 3% a year from 1971 through 2003...

While we are still skeptical of global warming claims, let us for a moment speculate what warmer winters — and a warmer world in general — would bring in addition to fewer cold-related deaths:

• Longer growing seasons and more land available for agriculture, two factors that will yield greater crop production.

• A reduction in respiratory and cardiovascular diseases that tend to be higher during colder months.

• Increased precipitation that will help the world solve its water scarcity issues.

• Lower heating bills by $12 billion a year, the Energy Department reckons.

I hate the cold. Can we just get Global Warming back on track please?

Eh, whatever.

That's the state count according to Barry Obama. And liberals say McCain is the 3rd Bush! Hahahaha! And hey, it's turning into a Barrypalooza day, and we're still 27 weeks away from the general election.

We all know he doesn't really give a damn about the United States but is it too much to ask him to pretend a little better that he might have a clue about the country? He doesn't mind causing damage by raising taxes. He likes having associations with racist bigots and unrepentant terrorists, and now it's revealed he has no clue how many states are in the union itself. Yeah, that's a man who deserves to sleep where John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK, and Reagan slept. Yep, no difference whatsoever.

If so much weren't at stake, this would be funny.

<a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/05/barack-obama-wa.html"target=blank">Barack Obama wants to be president of these 57 United States

In his prepared remarks Obama was ready to start blasting Arizona Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, to show the Illinois Democrat is moving on to the general election campaign.

But first the freshman senator had to go through all the obligatory delighted to see you, delighted to be here part of stump speeches that also require that you actually know where you are.

Obama pulled that off O.K. But then he drifted away from the text a tad, as rookies are wont to do sometimes, forgetting how exhausting this primary process is and should be. And trusting in their instincts, their very tired instincts.

"It is wonderful to be back in Oregon," Obama said. "Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit, but my staff would not justify it."

(UPDATE: At a later stop Obama was talking with reporters and expressed concern he'd also mis-stated the number of potential cyclone victims in Burma. He said, "I hope I said 100,000 people the first time instead of 100 million. I understand I said there were 57 states today. It's a sign that my numeracy is getting a little, uh." At that point, an aide cut him off and ushered journalists out. Before he could mis-speak again?)

His numeracy? <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numeracy"target=blank">Numeracy is having "an ability to reason with numbers and other mathematical concepts." It's not not having a firm grip on numerical facts, like the number of states or the number of people killed by a cyclone. At the same time, if he used that word because he's been diagnosed with Innumeracy that would explain why he wants to raise taxes, confiscate oil company profits, and do other various and sundry insane things economically, because he just doesn't comprehend the consequences of such acts.

Whatever his diagnosis, let's guess what the other 7 states are in Barryland:

B. Hussein Obama: Ask and Believe

Yes, you can. Ask Barry questions. And believe his answers. The first video is a great new commercial about questions Obama needs to answer (HT <a href="http://hotair.com/archives/2008/05/09/ask-obama-yes-you-can/"target=blank">Hot Air). The second is a clip is something I posted ages ago but is worth a re-visit: Upon being asked what he would do with the military and national security, we get our answer. Obama assures us he will completely decimate our military capability. Because you, know, we're the problem in the world and the only way to save it is to make sure we're completely vulnerable. Just ask George Soros, he knows.

Execute this beast now!

Oh, I also want to know what sort of parents force a 10- year-old (that's a fourth-grader folks, 9 when raped) to carry this pregnancy to term. They, too, should be arrested for child neglict and endangerment.
